This is my entry for SYTYCV: Tudor England. It's based on Anne's execution and her speech before. I hope the last part where Anne 'remembers' her life isn't too long. Clips: The Tudors Season 2 Episode 10
Those are the standard words an executioner says to his victims. Also, did you know that Katherine Howard (Henry's later wife that was also executed for the same thing Anne was) was Anne's cousin? Bad luck must really run in the family :(
It was the tradition for the executioner to ask for forgiveness and also to be paid a coin by the victim, for the service of having yr head cut off. Oh what times!!
This is pretty much how it actually happened. To get Anne to position her head correctly, and to stop her from looking instinctively backwards, the executioner called "Bring me the sword" to his assistant. Anne then automatically turned her head to look at the assistant. The executioner then grabbed the sword from where he had it hidden under the straw and executed her with one stroke. Anne literally never saw it coming.
it's a good thing isnt it...i mean i know she's scared but seeing a sword flyin right at you is even scarier...this is just sad also the actress really did a great job...my heart
Yes part of the reason she was executed by sword and not by the axe was because Henry wanted to be seen as dispensing justice not revenge - hence she was allowed the "merciful" single stroke of the skilled Calais swordsman rather than the butchery of the axe (which often took several chops) - it was all about Henry's public image. Actress Natalie Dormer did a very good job with the role
I get now why Elizabeth never married and never was with a man. If I had a father like Henry I would do the same thing. It's strange.......Henry loved Anne more than anything and suddenly he just....didn't. RIP Anne Boleyn
@@Ilikecatsandmelody he lied about it to get out of having to tell the truth. the actual reason was so he could marry jane and because she didnt have any sons
Maureen Kitty Just because Natalie Portman is an Oscar award winning actress doesn't mean she portrayed the role of Anne Boleyn better than Natalie Dormer.
Oh man, imagine how scary, standing there in front of all those people, knowing that your head was going to fly off from your body, and that your life was about to end, painfully. Gosh she was brave. They say that she wore a red dress so that the blood wouldn't show. Amazing woman, and super speech.
Her dress was grey damask, as shown here. You may be thinking of Mary Queen of Scots, who wore red at her execution because red was the color of martyrdom, and she considered herself a martyr to her Catholic faith. People did carefully consider their wardrobe for their executions (what a thing to have to consider!) Charles I requested an extra shirt because he was beheaded in January. He didn't want to be seen shivering became he didn't want people to think he was shivering with fear instead of cold. Catherine Howard asked that the block be brought to her the night before her execution so she could practice laying her head on it, wanting to die with the grace of the queen she no longer was.
Jonny B there is one that god gave us please believe in lord Jesus it's the only way for a amazing after life way better then the world but if you don't it will be a horrible after life and you will wish you listened amen
the irony of it all was Elizabeth was one of the greatest rulers England ever had. she may have married cept I believe she always remembered the price her mother paid for loving her father.
Caren, I agree. i think she was the greatest monarch England ever had and it was England then, not U.K.. She also never had her father's tomb completed, i think deliberately :)
The concept that Anne was desperate to get pregnant by any means possible is a fictional scenario from Philippa Gregory's dramatized novel of The Other Boleyn Girl. In actual fact there was no evidence to support the adultery charges- the statements by Mark Smeaton and Henry Norris were obtained under torture, and even the dates presented at her trial don't match. There was no way that this intelligent woman, who had waited so long to be queen, would have risked her child, her crown and her life by shagging another man. Even if she was desperate to conceive, the child had to be Henry's; no way would she risk the child being the spitting image of another man. Henry wanted out of the marriage, and as a second divorce was unthinkable after the six-year ordeal with Katherine of Aragon, there was only one way - Anne had to die.
Bella Australia No need to be like that. Of course you are 'entitled to an opinion', as are we all. I am listing the evidence supporting / not supporting said opinions.
Poor Queen Anne! 💐 She was inocent of all the charges against her. But because she had a only daughter & no sons that monster Henry had her executed. Irony is that Anne's daughter Elizabeth was the greatest & best monarch England has ever had. It's not for nothing that the time of Queen Elizabeth the First is called England's Golden Age. 👑 🌹 👑 🌹👑🌹👑🌹👑🌹👑🌹
Yes she was innocent and she was only executed because she gave him a daughter then had 3 miscarriages and all of them were with boys but it was Henry's fault she had a miscarriage because she saw Jane Seymour and Henry kissing but Henry like he was a cruel ,nasty person he was probably a narcissis and thought it was Anne's fault
Science has taught us that the chromosome that determines gender, comes from the father...not the mother. To think how many women were blamed. In the case of Henry VIII, apparently he was shooting a lot of XX's.
Natalie Dormer was the best Anne ever acted on stage or screen. I can watch her in this part over and over again and always see something new in her art then I have before. ❤️
The sad thing is even though she was basically executed because she was unable to produce a male heir to Henry, the daughter she did give him became arguably one of the greatest monarchs Britain has ever had.
Henry blamed her for giving him a daughter instead of a son, but, as we know, it was his sperm that decided the child's sex! And Elizabeth I was a great Queen.
ARBIT3R 1 No Jane Seymour was his Favourite wife because she gave him a male heir It is argued that Jane was the only one that Henry truly loved They are now buried together in Warwick castle
This is so sad. I would cry when I see this. Anne was innocent, she didn't deserve to die like that. She was so strong here and also while she was Queen😢 Rest in Peace Queen Anne. Henry was an evil man, may he burn in hell
lindi mardi When I looked it up it said she was innocent she didn't commit adultery but others are saying its cause she couldn't bare a son. The part where Anne bleed out because of the miscarriage really disturbed me, damn. 😓
Poor Queen Anne, she was innocent!!!But she got her revage.Elisabeth became the best Queen Engeland ever had.And Anne's legendsy lives on until this day.
@• kreative _KATL tanzanite • that you feel attacked right away is not my problem. And even if it is 5 years ago,it remains a beautiful serie!! I say what I think. So again:who cares!!!
We live in a civilization of cowards. What a test of character and a testament to bravery, dignity, strength, and Hope for others even when she knew there was no hope for her. What an honor it must have been to know someone like THAT What a heartbreaking loss, she would have been a great leader.
@@blueskyabove4498 I think you're talking about Queen Elizabeth II of the House of Windsor. She passed a few months ago. Her son, King Charles III, rules now.
@@animeheadshot1016Yes. It's very sad. But like you said, Anne had the final triumph, because her daughter Queen Elizabeth I went on to be one of the best if not the best monarch England's ever had. 👑
And actually her speech was "Good Christian people, I have come hither to die, according to the law, and by the law I am judged to die, and therefore I will speak nothing against it. I have come hither to accuse no man, nor speak anything of that. Whereof I am accused and condemned to die, but I pray God save the king and send him long to reign over you, for a gentler nor a more merciful prince was there never: and to me he was ever a good, a gentle, and sovereign lord. And if any person will meddle of my cause, I require them to judge the best. And thus I take the leave of the world, and the leave of you all, and I heartily desire you all to pray for me. Oh lord have mercy on me, to God I commend my soul." And wasn't she blindfolded? This is just a little something: To those people that think that King Henry had the right decision to execute her, it's wrong. Her family were the ones who wanted her to be queen, no other, not herself. Her father, specially. This is just my opinion and I am just young, I think they just wanted royal blood. The only sin Anne has done to the court was give birth to a princess and not an heir. The people who accused her did not have the right to do that. She was a good mistress, she had the perfect temper with Henry. But Henry was never as pure as her. The irony was beautiful, Elizabeth was the least favorite of Henry, but then she became on of the world's best queens! She proved her mother right.
wOoNi CoWn ...there is some disageement amongst historians as to the actual words of her final speech....but NO ONE thinks that she had a "perfect temper"...even SHE admitted that she was very volatile.
Salaahudeen khan.she is one of Englands most dashing Queens.Henry the 8th is burning in hell now.i wish to see Ann in heaven in the hereafter inshaallah.
Anne Boleyn had her life taken from her at 35 years old and had the privilege of seeing Elizabeth grow up snatched from her in the blink of an eye. Nobody is perfect but she didn't deserve to die the way she did. I have discovered that Anne was given an ultimatum, if she allowed the marriage to be annulled and Elizabeth to be declared illegitimate, they would have a swordsman do the job. Heartbreaking! RIP Queen Anne Boleyn
Mia Billingsley Anne was sentenced cause she did admit to Henry VIII's investigators she was indecent with various whom were not her husband. Henry would not have paid for Anne's investigation with the proceeds of Rievaulx Abbey. If he did not believe she was Innocent. That is Mercy in a case such as Anne Boleyn's.
When I was obsessed with the Tudors(both the show and the family itself) I just never liked Anne but I can respect that she was one of the most interesting of the wives and she showed strength where others wouldn't have
I believe that God granted her a vision that her daughter would not grow up a bastard but will grow to be a queen, the rightful ruler to end Henry's bloodline. Elizabeth did not only avenged her mother, she avenged Henry's wives, her sister, and her brother.
@Kayleigh Brown: You're right, Henry VIII didn't kill his first wife. He would not dare! His first wife, Catalina de Aragon was the beloved aunt (his Mom's sister) of Charles of Hapsburg, the most powerful ruler of his time. He was both, King of Spain AND also Emperor of Austria! He would have attacked England to the point of leaving her to a pulp. Henry VIII knew this, he was not stupid.
rest in peace anne. I do not know if you did any of the things you were accused for or not and in the end it is not for me to judge you but if you did I hope god forgave you of your sins. rest in peace
She can't speak of her mother. But she did admire her by wearing a ring with Anne's face. I'm sure she loved her mother very much seeing she wore the ring and never took it off. The public paid extra attention in Elizabeth's reign.
She is so noble n brave, a feminist before her time. Her life such a sad end. Her innocence n the men who were murdered by henry. I will always be intrigued by anne , a passion of many years. My daughter second name anne in honour of her,
She didn’t deserve it! :( I would of asked for justice! :( r-I-p an amazing women who should of got her life! And lived a long life! She was the most amazing queen! She deserved better that getting killed!
God when the man fixed her hair by putting it back into the bonnet and she jumped. She was so scared and rightfully so..but it just breaks my heart to know this is something a real human had to go through. My heart breaks for all the women who had to suffer under Henry.
From what I read she wanted a French swordsman as she did spend time in the French Court. She knew it would be efficiently done. Henry wanted a son and a docile wife. Since she replaced Catherine of Aragon the people were never that happy with her, so the false charges and his set up did not upset the people until the actual execution. She died so Elizabeth stayed in the succession for the throne. A story from centuries ago that still has our curiosity😢
in all the wives of king henry i believed he loved only one woman and that is quenn anne boleyn...we r only human...henry is a king but he is also human he did sometimes judgement imperfectly as what he did to his beloved wife anne...anne boleyn loved him so much...since anne alived already henry cheated her to slept with lady jane...he is king he can do what ever he want..and poor lady died without defending herself...
Anne played with fire and truly got burnt. She poked the monster (Henry) and he devoured her whole for it in the end. A manipulative, passionate, forceful and ambitious woman who ruined lives in her desire and unquenchable thirst for power but she did not deserve to die. What happened to her was despicable but let’s not pretend she was an innocent little flower. Let’s give her character and her true spirit the credit it deserves. The King changed his entire country to wed his mistress and make her his Queen. That in itself speaks volumes about her own actions and what she aspired for and she is not entirely blameless in her rise and fall as Queen. However, she was used as a scapegoat in the end, betrayed, lied about and plotted against for the indelicate “sin” of not being able to produce a healthy male heir. They ruined her and her fate is beyond tragic. Rest in peace, Anne.
That was an amazing episode, it packed in one episode all the emptions and power of a whole season of GOT, even the better ones. The fact her selfish father and her intended killer survived (With Judas Like Results) sucks. Even Cromwell was unable to pray seeing the effects of his betrayal, damn the acting was top notched in this episode.
Cannot imagine it.... Being one, I would lose the job before even starting... Or maybe I would start, actually, by trying to let the prisoners who did nothing so bad to deserve this out of the prison.... Eventually, they would kill me instead of having me kill somebody....
