In this brilliant arrangement of "Marietta's Song" Ms. von Otter and her colleagues have taken us to that place in artistry and beauty that the world disappears. One of the most perfect 6 minutes you likely to ever experience.
Lest we forget. . Eric Korngold. The most underrated composer of the last 200 years. This song is not a one off fluke. He was a cast iron genius who deserves a place in the highest ranks.
She is holding back and is immensly disciplined. The Swedish string quartet is doing very well as well. Von Otter is often described as cold and a perfectionist...There is nothing cold about this... Gareth Jefferson
Snap - but any rendition with me... but this especially, and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa's as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Iqk6dZGFKXY.html&ab_channel=RonSurgenor 17mins in
Korngold was just 22 when wrote this.Just where he got the depth of feeling, and the hearts wiseness is something we may never know.We can only let it seep into our souls and inspire and console us..
A wonderful song, but the group also deserves recognition. Here are their names so you can check them out: Nils-Erik Sparf - Violin I Ulf Forsberg - Violin II Tobias Ringborg - Viola Mats Lidstrom - Cello Bengt Forsberg - Piano
I've loved her work for almost twenty years. She has done a tremendous job in interpreting this wonderful lied. Brava Anne Sofie! And the accompaniment of the musicians is just superb!
What a heart achingly beautiful song from the pen of Erich Korngold and from the lips of the lovely Anne Sofie Von Otter . Thanks to the poster for this . I type this through my tears
Ineffable beauty - in song, in arrangement, among all musicians. Ms. Von Otter is one hell of a singer. I fell in love with her listening to her rendition of this song.
This is beyond perfect. I am moved to tears by von Otter's beautifully measured performance... a rich and wonderful experience which has genuinely enhanced my life.
So touching. I started to tear-up at about the 56 second mark. Is that wrong? A good antidote to so much of the barbarity that passes for popular culture now. Anne-Sophie von Otter, not only has technique, she has taste, and genuine emotion. Plus, such a noble face!
A great joy to discover this song on youTube. This performance cries out to us all just what it is to be a human being, sometimes, if only. Even her cheeky look towards the musicians at the finish speaks volumes. Beautiful!

La más grande entre todas, y una verdadera dama del canto.
This is one of my celestial moments on RU-vid. I love this rendition and readily forgive Miss von Otter of the transposition and the tenor omission. It is simply heavenly as it is.
Never heard this arranged for piano quintet, but it surely works when played so well as this. Von Otter sings so sensitively, and the whole performance of this aria is heavenly!
John O'Leary Because it says,' Joy, that proved so true / Hold me fast, my faithful love. /Now the evening comes on, gray- But you are all my light and day. /Heart on heart, they beat as one ; Hope flies heavenward again. /...How true it is, that sad old song; Of faithful lover, dead and gone./ Oh yes, now I recall the song/ In younger days, in happier times, I heard it sung. / How does it go? ..Clouds may loom above; Hold me fast, my faithful love. Lie now close upon my heart- those who love, death cannot part. / When the time comes, then one must go. / You will rise again, I know!'
Like many others on this page, I keep coming back to Anne Sofie's performance of this beautiful aria. The serene composure and wistfulness and sheer beauty of her voice, together with the elegance of the vocal line, are breathtaking.
Extraordinary playing. Such warmth. The first time I just listened to the sheer beauty of von Otter's voice. Then I went back to listen to how beautifully wedded the voice and the ensemble were. BRAVISSIMO!
Korngold was one of the greatest 20th century prodigies to ever create music. I wish more people knew about his immense talent for writing beautiful art.
What a great concert performance of this duet. Ms. von Otter, and company, do a beautiful job! I don't usually like performances of this without the tenor, but in this case I am very moved.
Beat Zbinden Ich denke deine Geschichte macht Sinn.
Anne Sofie von Otter is an exceptional artist and I am so pleased to have found this performance. Thanks for sharing it with us. Korngold is an underappreciated composer but I have always loved his music, beginning with my first exposure in the films, and his concert work later in my life.
Absolutely beautiful performance. Though I've always heard this with full orchestra, the chamber ensemble lends itself very well to the subtle beauty/color of this wonderful piece by Korngold. Superb singing.
Glorious writing, singing and an amazing arrangement. How 50 people can click dislike is beyond me - I can only assume they are wannabe singers who are jealous.
I'm starting to believe Anne Sofie von Otter has one of the era's great voices when I listen to this and to her version of L'amour ardent la flame from Berlioz's Damnation of Faust... Truly conveys emotions with extreme elegance of phrasing.
