This is a gentle suggestion so take it as you will (I definitely don’t know the background of how an episode topic comes together) but sometimes it feels like you have a personal motive with what you want your guest to talk about and the guest doesn’t necessarily feel like that’s the most important thing. I felt it in this episode where Annemarie seems to be really beyond this drama and has other insights to offer, I felt it with JH where you seemed really invested in the Mormon side and he obviously had things to share about that but also a lot of other things to say, and I also felt it in the painter in Paris episode where it seemed like you were personally invested in the relation of age and a new career but that didn’t seem to matter to the guest. It’s totally natural to have those personal investments because that’s probably what leads to an interest in the guest, but I often find myself wanting the guest to tell their own story with more open ended questions rather than leading questions. I love your work and in general am a fan of this podcast so I hope this is simply helpful! :)
The examples you give are spot on. It really seems like he's trying to get complaints out of AM to stir something up & get more clicks. That unfortunately seems to be a common thread in his podcast episodes with guests, not that he's trying to stir up drama, but that he's often steering the conversation in a direction that feels unnatural to the flow of the conversation and only asking about things that he's interested in (read: topics he think will do well on social media). For a guy who talks about diving deeper into his art, and not worrying about how things perform on social media, he actually seems like he cares a LOT about performance on social media. Just a thought.
I also find myself wanting to hear the guest tell their own story with more open ended questions rather than his pointed leading questions.. He also tends to follow up with his own experiences right after the guests share theirs which comes across like he's making it about himself. A good interviewer will want to go deeper with the guest by asking them follow-up questions rather than being like OH YEAH MAN, ME TOO, I TOTALLY HAD THAT HAPPEN TO ME ON MY CHANNEL. I hope that he'll take a step back and recognize that he's new to this, that there's room to improve, and that there are many lessons to be learned to become a better podcast host/interviewer. I feel like he could be going a lot deeper than he is with his guests and it would have a much better impact.
Agreed. It came off slimey. Maybe they could have discussed what she was comfortable with ahead of time so that he didn’t have to continuously dip a toe in to see if she would spill the tea. The multiple tries were aggravating because it was clear she had a boundary with how much she wanted to share.
I get where you’re coming from, but I’m looking at this from a different perspective. A guest is asked to come in and talk about a specific topic the host wants to know more about and simultaneously share it with an audience. Sure a guest probably has experienced a lot more in his/her/their life, but is invited on that topic. If you are really interested and invested in such a topic, you’ll ask questions to get a little bit deeper than just surface. So you ask a question again, or rephrase it. It’s not an interview where a guest talks about his or her life in general. It’s a podcast with a specific topic, so that’s what the guest gets asked about. 🤷🏽♀️ maybe I’m wrong, It’s just my way at looking at these podcasts.
Nathaniel the title makes you sound like you’re starting a drama podcast - the ur mums house drama was just sad to see friends fall apart i dont wanna see this stirred up again zzz
This podcast really lacked substance and felt disconnected as a whole from viewers. Not that I have to relate to someone, but some of your other podcasts, like with your dad for example, felt very real, raw, and relatable. This just felt like I listened to an hour of nothing.
For real. For this podcast to work, she should have talked specifics, but is so reluctant it doesn’t even make any sense. Nathan should’ve pushed back on that more.
I loved this conversation! Especially the difference between Alaska, how life is more community and friendship based, between NYC which is more career focused and hustle based. That probably changes a community and how people interact withIn it! Even the difference between attending a party in New York City and not knowing if everyone there is genuinely there or if they were paid, and how in Alaska that probably would never happen so you would never even think about it while at a party. That creates a level of subconscious distrust within a group of people for sure. Never truly knowing someone’s intentions or incentives. I wasn’t a watcher of Ur Moms House, but loved this conversation regardless.

Real courses cost less than that. Why trust an influencer course instead of learning from a professional course? I’m not saying he isn’t qualified to teach in his subject but lots of influencers actually aren’t qualified to teach. And there are far cheaper courses elsewhere. Or even check out community colleges.

The title was misleading because he did answer the question but then it was avoided and danced around. If we’re gonna talk about feelings I would’ve felt less lied to if it would’ve been titled “podcast with with special guest Annmarie” rather than something wasn’t gonna be delivered. So I think my comment-to-be is a function of my age, but I am just exhausted by this "privilege" apology. It is life's randomness for one, and survival of the fittest secondly. I get your frustration bc I also wanted the deets but also respect that everyone involved is human and it aligns with her character that she would try to protect those people, her self/image/brand and whatever relationship she still has with them. I think it’s not her fault the episode was advertised as a tell all about the drama though. Aka clickbait? Still, without the details, a lot was “said” by what was left unsaid.
I wanted details too but respect how she chooses to do the right thing and did not speak badly about her roommates …even though she was obviously hurt by them to the point it took her 6 mos to process the breakup. Sounds like she forgives them and misses them a bit even hinted that a few years difference make them see the world a bit differently.

A lot of her points about not going after money being looked down upon, comes from a very privileged point of view of having two parents that are doctors that will subsidize her life if she can’t pay her rent
The interviewer should have more practice and research in elliciting information from the guest. P.s. the fact that they unfollowed each other means something really wrong has happened. You won’t unfollow someone just to take a break.
I am so surprised that Nathaniel did not have dozens of invitations from fans to stay at their place in NYC. That is sad and unexpected for such an interesting guy . What's that about NYC.
I love Annemarie, Elliot, Kelly and Ashly but as a person who follows all their videos, I can say that what happend is because of Elliot. Elliot is jealous of Ashley. And believe all of them are very good in filming but Kelly is creativeeee. It started when Kelly went to vacation with his family and inviting Ashly. Guys WHY ELLIOT THINK THAT KELLY COULD NOT INVITE HIS GIRLFRIEND?
