This scene gets me every friggen time. It didn't used to when I was a kid, but holy cow, it does now. I get emotional at his delivery. He just sounds so _sad._ "And I know I'll forget how much she meant to me, and how she was almost my... baby..."
No matter how many times they redo this movie. He is and always will be Mr. Warbucks. The whole caste was full of iconic talent. I'm in my late thirties and still adore this movie. I watched it recently and for the first time felt a bit emotional between this scene and when he is so quick to respond to the orphans news and to when Punjab is rescuing her (sp?)
There are lots of reasons you know he loved her , but a big is when he immediately acts when he finds out what's really going . Immediately called to action to get her back .
It’s at this moment Oliver Warbucks realizes he truly loves Annie. He said before that he loves money and power, but Grace told him “they’re never going to love you back” and it’s here that he discovers she’s right. You never realize how much you love someone until they’re (seemingly) gone.
@@quiggaxx no, in the scene before he goes to see Miss Hannigan about adopting Annie, he and Grace are sitting outside and she begs him to adopt Annie and he says “I'm a businessman. I love money, I love power, I love capitalism. I do not now and never will love children.”
I felt bad for Oliver Warbucks here because he loved Annie as his own daughter and he was heart broken when she was taken back by her parents or who he thought were her parents who turned out to be kidnappers
🎵😔It'll be fine, nothing to fear; She'll be as happy as she was here. Things have worked out much better than planned, It makes you smile when fate takes a hand. 🥺And I know I'll forget, How much she meant to me, And how she was almost my... baby, Maaaaaaaybeeee🎵
Albert Finney was such a fine actor that he was able to take this kind of role without coming off as creepy. So few actors could pull that off. All adaptations since have given my that vibe. Rip Albert. One of the most underrated actors of our time in my opinion. Come on, big fish.
Missing our Foster Girls who went home after being with us almost 2 years. 💕 Things have worked out MUCH BETTER than planned. 💕 #Reunification #TheyreHOME
Too bad noone said, "Something doesn't feel right about this" It was all over everyone's faces. Annie would have been killed if her friends hadn't ran to Warbuck's mansion to warn him. They're heroes.
At that rate nothing would have felt “Right” no matter how accurate the information they were given was. He loved Annie, they all did, and they all wanted her to stay. Annie felt that connection with everyone as well, so it wouldn’t have been easy for her either.
It was at this moment when Oliver realised that he may have made a massive mistake in letting Annie go. Oliver didn’t take to Annie at first, but he grew to love and adore her like everyone else had. He didn’t want her to go. ❤
I saw my husband this hurt when our daughter first went to school, college, went on a date, got married and finally moved out. Those times she said he looked like Oliver in this scene. She could see the hurt in his eyes.
This is honestly one of the movie additions that should really be incorporated into later stage revivals. Perfect character growth in just 56 seconds. I’m truly surprised that it has never been added in. But then again, Warbucks does have 3/4 solos and 2 of them do address his realisation and denial that he cares for Annie. I am aware they did so a sort of homage to this with NBC’s ANNIE live. But I didn’t really like the lyric changes. “Maybe” one day it’ll get added in.
I would never release Annie to Rooster and Lily especially after tricking Warbucks into giving them money! Poor people! My ass! They are wearing suits and nice dresses! Poor people can’t afford those kind of clothes!
Harry Connick, Jr.’s version was way better: Maybe it’s fair, most would agree maybe it’s just the way it should be. A mom and a dad and Annie makes three. I hope you don’t forget about me. So maybe when you’re grown, if I should cross your mind, you might remember I loved you… …maybe.
While I respect them for putting this in when others versions did not, as the other commenter said HCJ doesn't come even close to capturing the emotion and magic here.
