This is a beautiful song. Annie is probably the best British female voice of the last 30 years. She did a wonderful duet of "Under Pressure" with David Bowie at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. "Language is leaving me." I do not know, but to me she seems very androgynous. Her videos are very gender ambiguous. They are puzzling and unexpected. But she is a great performance artist. fabulous singer, wonderful voice. and beautiful. And all of her music is heartfelt, beautifully written expressions of love and loss.

The Medusa album was a very interesting one, all the songs were cover songs, originally sung by male artists, I thought her version of 'Whiter Shade Of Pale' was very good. 'Little bird' from the Diva album is a bit more upbeat and well worth a listen, the video shows many of her stage persona's.

Hello India, honey. From what I know, Annie released this track at the same sort of time in breaking her silence over her life long struggle with deep depression & anxiety. She's one of only a handful of extremely musically talented artist to have not succumbed to her dark side. Also, legend has it, Annie is the only artist to have been approached in the early 80s to have her vocal range digitally uploaded on synthesiser, she apparently politely declined. I love this song. The video seems weird at first but then becomes moving and artistic. She also said in an interview that the chorus was also about how she was adjusting to no longer hearing and saying I love you on a regular basis. This is a masterpiece IMO.

Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart remained friends. I think they just wanted to do some solo things. As a matter of fact, it was Dave Stewart who called Lennox after he produced this song for another band ( the original performers 'The Lover Speaks' ). He thought - and he was right - that it might be also a good song for her to sing. So professionally and in privat they were still friends. I even heard that one day, Dave Stewart bought her an elephant for her birthday, but I think I've red it somewhere in a Gossip Magazine, so there might be any doubt concerning that story 🙂

"Medusa" is, beyond question, one of the greatest albums of the 90s. (And it's all covers!) "Diva" was great too -- that's mostly original material and you could probably consider them a double album. As popular as the Eurythmics were, these two albums made Annie Lennox a legend -- one of the greatest pop singers to ever come out of Scotland, if not the UK as a whole. You can't dig into 90s music and not include Annie. It'd be like leaving out Alanis, or Snoop, or Hootie and the Blowfish.

It was originally sung by The Lover Speaks in the mid-80's. (But the key is different on the hook) Lennox's version of "No More 'I Love You's" has been sampled multiple times. It was first sampled for the Nicki Minaj song "Your Love" on her 2010 single. The song was originally recorded two years before but never intended to be put out for release until it was leaked in January 2010. After becoming a hit, it was slightly rewritten and re-recorded and this revised version was released in June 2010. Prior to the official release of Minaj's song, the cover was sampled in 2009 by Jason Derulo and Auburn in their song "How Did We". It was then sampled by J.R. Rotem for singer Razah's 2010 single called "I Remember", using the same instrumental beat used for "How Did We".[citation needed] Singer Hailee Steinfeld included the sample as well in her 2020 single "I Love You's". It has also been sampled in soundtracks including Rebel Wilson's Isn't It Romantic?

For me, the way I have read the song personally, is that a relationship has come to an end ("no more I love yous") and she is on her own now, solo, no one will be there to reassure her or bolster her with their words of romantic promises, but - at the same time - she is also departing the relationship because, to do so, is to leave behind her personal demons. Something that was scared inside her before had kept her in a relationship because she thought she needed someone to give her their language of love to feel lovable, but - in leaving those monsters behind - she is now strong enough to stand without someone else's loving language to hold her up. Still, she will miss those words and the comfort they brought her even though she is entering a new phase of life where she can stand without them. It is, for me, a song about embracing independence while also acknowledging that you are nostalgic for the love that once propped you up from the outside.

I LUV LUV LUV ANNIE!! One of my top favorite female artists,,,,,from all the way back in the early 1980’s! My favorite song from the 1995 CD Medusa is “Downtown Lights”. Like many of her songs it’s very melancholy,,,which I find myself in quite a lot of the time. I would like to request on of my all time favorites if you have the time. “Love Song For A Vampire” from the soundtrack, 1992. However if you would like, you could watch the movie she wrote the song for: “ Bram Stokers Dracula” by Francis Ford Coppola, 1992. For me it’s always been about having to deal with heavy loss. Another thing that is a constant in my life. The movie is amazing, as is her song. When she sings about come to me one last time, time to die, if floods with me with major grief and sorrow. As this song was in my head when I held my son as he was dying...... uhhh tearing up again! He’s been gone almost 11 years and I still bawl like a baby when I sing this!

If you think she looks spooky today, try to imagine how she hit us 30-40 years ago! Original, rule-breaker, force of nature --- with a voice of pure perfection. Most women who were being "transgressive" back then were being slutty....(a valid choice) but then Annie came along and showed a whole new side of rule-breaking for women. She moved beyond defying/reflecting the male gaze to reimagining how it was possible to be in the world. Crazy is ok, a witch is ok, sheer power ... it's all ok in Annie's hands.
