I didn’t hear a female or male DJ. Just a fantastic broadcaster who knew what music she liked and knew what she was talking about. Condolences to family and friends. ❤
I always felt, instinctively, that she wasn't really a music person. She was just a middle-class bbc stooge. That the music thing was given to her rather than being something inate. That she could just as well have been a broadcaster of marshmellow consistency - Whatever role the bbc gave her. So there!
Aww, that's sad news. R.I.P ANNIE NIGHTINGALE FIRST female DJ on the airwaves! Loved her on the OGWT! I've got her book, Chase the Fade. Saw her DJ on the Southbank several years ago, she was great.
Sunday afternoons listening to Annie were special, loved her relaxed style and awesome selection of music she played. She influenced me in the music I listened to and played as a drummer.
I've heard and seen her but never really knew her.i remember her always wearing purple shades.i wouldn't have thaught she was 83years old she looked younger.rest in peace to her .Godbless her Amen🙏🕊🦋🌹
Sad that the BBC keep harping on about her being a woman in a mans world rather than on her ability, knowledge and enthusiasm , and what a sad loss her passing is.
@@tridaks It is a very important aspect of her story, and most people listening to Radio 1 nowadays would not have been alive in those days, and might not know much about the era, and even many watching BBC News might be too young and/or not know either, so it was worth mentioning how much of a trailblazer she was.
@@MrDannyDetail agreed, in this modern era of equality & whatnot, it doesn't matter about gender. But, in the olden days, those of us that were already adults at the turn of the century, to us, Annie was at first novel, then she seemed to blaze a dazzling & inimitable trail, for music & getting it to the masses of us, hungry for the creme de la creme & did a world of good for the sisterhood. Nightingale, soar high above the clouds, inspire from behind the veil. R.I.P.
Remember Annie on radio one on Sunday afternoons.why don't they put someone on to talk about her not 30 yr olds!!!who would know the real things about her.not dribble
Annie Nightingale, John Peel, John Walters, without these wonderful people, would punk, house, rock etc ever have come to light or would it have just been an underground thing? What made Annie Nightingale so special was that she really opened the door for more women to come into the radio, journalism and music industry, without Annie Nightingale, would we have heard of Janice Long, Jakkie Brambles and the likes? Sadly we've lost John Peel, John Walters, Janice Long, Terry Wigan, and now Annie Nightingale, even though I don't listen to the BBC anymore as it's gotten boring and repetitive, the BBC upstairs have got an amazing line up now, remember Alexis Korner at 9pm on Sunday nights? Wigan on the breakfast show? Listening to John Peel underneath the bedsheets from 10 pm? Annie Nightingale on the late night weekends? Janice Long just before Peelie? The BBC may have gone downhill rapidly, but they introduced us to some wonderful personalities back in the day
I remember John Peel playing Dylan's Desire album on his late night show back in 1976. Dylan's best. John and Annie were peas from the same pod. Bless you both.
Annie Nightingale knock down more doors at the BBC to get where she was in 1970, She stood up to sexiusm male club and discover more artists than any other DJ at Radio 1,
Couldn’t agree more. Both of them talk as if they’re reading a script, not talking from the heart. Loved watching Annie on the Old Grey Whistle Test, her, John Peel & Whispering Bob did so much to bring new, alternative music to our ears.
Does the BBC have to turn everything into a campaign for minority rights? Annie was a wonderful broadcaster who, along with John Peel & Whispering Bob, did so much to open our ears to alternative music. Yet here we have two people talking about her with no feel whatsoever for what made her special. RIP Annie, you deserve better from the organisation for which you did so much.
@metalmusic1964 hi just kinda heard that Annie Nightinggale, BBC Radio1' Presenter Dj' and of the Old Grey Whistle test, has sadly Passed Away at the tender age 84' she was part of My Youth' Along Sides of her Two Male Comparatists,,,, the late Great Presenters John Peel' and Tommy Vance, i Believe' Annie Nightinggale' Both John Peel and Tommy Vance, a Run for their Money Thank you' for the Music Bless' Mr Michael Calf City of London Hackney UK 😥♥🎞🎥📺💯
@jollytunes It makes sense to me now. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Also, I agree with you 100% regarding fake obits on YT that they do nothing about.
Some where in some place there are two of the Worlds most rubbish record collections of terrible music ever that nobody would want to listen to. One is by John Peel. the other by Annie Nightingale.
Annie Nightingale I fail to see what contribution she made unless you count putting a record on a turntable and announcing the name of the band as talent, and Radio 1 was and still is for half wits
