@@haifabamehriz9364 , hi there, yes, white vinegar is acidic and breaks down tarnish and other gunk. Hope that helps.

I am back to Annie Sloan paint, because it covers much better, saves time and money when you are doing lots of projects each week.

So vinegar with water while cleaning? Do I have to sand furniture to paint it?

Bell & Cotton Tell you what young lady...if you would like the cedar chest...it was my grammas and actually have no family left to pass on too...would be honored if you would like it. Held my grammas quilts and the Hershey Chocolate bars she hid from us all. LOL. To this day..a hershey bar with no cedar smell just isnt right. LOL I know you might think this is weird, but when you have no family and tons of antiques you do not need and afraid to mess with cause drop shit all the time. Time to pass them on to the next generation! 🤘🏻👍🏻❤️😁

Personally I have not had good luck with any other brand but I have also not used Home Depot’s custom made chalk paint that you mentioned. If it’s much cheaper, see if you can get a sample and use it on a scrap piece of wood or material and see how you like it. To me, Annie Sloan is worth the cost.

Kathy, I've used the chalk paint from walmart many times for different projects. They sell it in cans un the paint isle, then also small bottles in the crafting section by the craft paintbrushes and stencils etc. Good luck!

Wow, I didn’t realize it could date back that far! Although I did know it was quite old. It was a part of an estate sale for someone elderly who had passed. There were many pieces like this but this was the last one. Thank you for the compliment! We love this piece.

Yes Bethany, that is correct but you may want to use something instead of wax depending on how much touch/wear and tear the piece will get. Terry is right, I only paint what can be seen when the dresser is all closed up. If you paint the insides, it makes it harder for the drawers to slide

Hi Denise! Yes, yes and yes! You’ve got all of that right. Applying the clear wax first will allow you to control the dark wax. If you use too much dark wax at any point, simply apply more clear wax to remove it. Good luck!!

Chalk paint will chip or scratch easily if you do not seal it with wax or poly. Sanding is often a waste of time with chalk paint and only necessary if the surface you are painting is chipped or uneven. I have a video on my channel called “answering your chalk paint questions” and it will probably answer a lot of your questions! It always seems daunting and confusing when you haven’t done it yet but I love chalk paint because it’s really so easy and simple. Good luck Maria !

I personally do not recommend it. I would try to remove the wax. You can try mineral spirits and a light sanding. That usually does the trick.

Thank you! This piece I’ve heard is from the 40s, but I don’t have any info further than that. My best advice is to keep your eye out on Facebook marketplace, I see other items locally similar to this all the time.

Furniture wax is available at hardware stores. I get my Annie Sloan wax locally and it also available for sale on Annie sloans site
