Annihilation is a 2018 science fiction horror film written and directed by Alex Garland, based on the novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. The film follows a team of scientists who enter ‘The Shimmer”, a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating landscapes and transforming creatures, hoping to better understand it before it grew to encompass everything.

Shaine White well Josie said that when the bear killed Cassie that, part of Cassie’s consciousness had merged with its brain when it killed her but what I think is scarier about the bear than the voice was it seemed to be very sadistic and it was intentionally walking around scaring the people who were tied up as much as possible

I can't really offer an example because I haven't read that many of them, but as a hypothetical "the thing" or room 1408 could have been an scp. And they only get far more dangerous from there. I watched this one yesterday and it was very, very good. IT left me with the sense of fear mixed with curiosity, like, I want to know more, what else could the shimmer create, the nature in it was beautifully grotesque, even the skeleton they found in the pool was somehow aesthetic in colours and shapes like Hieronymus Bosch and Salvador Dali did a collab on the scenery for this movie. Simply amazing.
@ElectricIguana
@ElectricIguana 2 года назад
I think there's a theme here about how when a landmark event happens in your life (or even simply the passage of time) you can deal with it in a number of ways besides self destruction. You can accept it gracefully, face it, fight it, etc. In the end, we all become different people, often unaware of the transformation.
@solidmoon8266
@solidmoon8266 3 года назад
It seems more like The Shimmer was a force of change, it breaks down, mixes and recombines everything in its influence. The changes are completely random and apparently in a constant stat of flux even after being supposedly being a new creature, like a part of a persons mind being fused into the altered bear as a part of its voice. This movie is a really disturbing take on how far you can change something till the boundaries of what things it used to be are no longer recognizable.

As I can agree everything in this, me and my friend were looked at this differently. The main lead for our theory was the intesties twirling in the guys body. It very much represented a 4 dimensional loop. Giving us the idea that this shimmer simply enabled our 3D world to use the 4th dimension, causing life to seamlessly cross with itself, and also easilly make leaps in time too that allowed for some of the accelerated progression of life and natural selection that would needed to take much more time in the regular static 3D timescale. The alien in the middle is a bit dodgy. It could be something mainly living in the 4th dimension or was just a resoult of whatever it encountered thus far or simply just a desprete attempt to end the movie with something at least. DUnno I think without the brain fuck at the end it would be still a complete movie.

Can you do Inception?! I know it’s kind of old but still my favorite movie. Love your content. Huge fan. Keep up the amazing work.

You should do a little deeper of a dive on what all the themes and events might mean in a philosophical context :D

I like the movie too but your video makes me understand what the real story is about. Thanks for making this video 😄

The monster designs were amazing, like supernatural mutations with impossible features with no reason for being there like the crocodile's teeth or the Bear's mimicry, they're all there and the lack of reasoning is frightening to me

i wouldn't say the bear absorbed her consciousness, i think it imitated her voice as a lure to get pray and is purely a ambush tactic

Based on the themes of the movie, it's pretty clear that it did absorb her consciousness to a degree. The organisms in the Shimmer were all starting to absorb traits from one another. They even mention in the film how horrible it must have been for your last minutes to be filled with terror and pain, and then for that part of you to keep on living after the rest of you died. Which is WAY scarier to think about than it just being an ambush tactic.

Fuck that! My brain would have melted when the bear started screaming. But yeah, the visuals in this film were crazy.

Can you explore the 2001 Bill Paxton directed movie Frailty? Its one of my favorites and not enough people have seen it! Matthew McConaughey's best movie, and a very good story.

Has anyone realized that the film basically depicts an alien that feels totally fine after absorbing 11 teams of men, but as soon as it has to deal with five women it kills itself.....
