I caution seeding heavy above the recommended rates. In my experience doing multiple renovations and overseedings, applying too much seed is one of the top drivers for disease pressure the following summer. Then you lose all that "extra" grass anyway. Building up density over a couple overseedings has shown to be the more durable long term solution. Just my 2 cents, have a good one!
I have literally had the same experience as you with GCI product this year. My last house was Turf Gem and Howard fertilizer and was amazing. Half the bag of GCI had to be pure weeds and the protene products did nothing. I will never EVER buy GCI again. You didn’t destroy the lawn, it was 100% bad product
Great video and I always learn something from them. I did a complete reno of my neighbor's lawn in April and deliberately not use Tenacity (mesotrione) as my pre-emergent. Six weeks later, the yard was flooded with weeds. I used Spectracide, due to the lower concentration of active ingredients, and mixed some Tenacity with it. There was very little bleaching (if any) on the grass, but you could see the damage the cocktail was doing to the weeds. I'm going hit it again next week with another round of Spectracide and then let it ride for the summer as we get ready for the fall. You're doing a great job! Thanks for what you do.
Why not just go with JB Original? High traffic says mixed type grass. So is there still KGB or PRG in it? Just put tall fescue grass seed. If you gonna aerate the area, why not just put tall fescue seed only? Just saying. As for weeds, I sprayed Sprectricide with some extra Quinclorac, & it got rid of most of weeks in my lawn with just 1 dose.
Well because it will receive high traffic via kids and adults walking on it as mentioned, but also because I've never seen it or heard about it. There are thousands of OG Black Beauty lawns, but not this mix. I like to be different
My concern with the High Traffic blend is that it has perennial ryegrass. That grass in itself is fantastic but can it handle hotter summers and humidity?
Great choice. i was realizing the other day that my lawn, due to factors outside my control, has been a JG lawn this year. I've only put one application of Veri-Green and one application of Mag-I-Cal and my lawn looks great. It's a little lighter than I normally like, but given the circumstances, I'm extremely pleased.
Sounds like you’re explaining my lawn when I first started this journey lol. Im on year 3 and I’m finally feeling like i have control. Definitely takes time!
Like you, I love experimenting with the lawn to see what does and doesn't work. My front yard is all TTTF and back is Zeon Zoysia. I love both but the Zeon is MUCH easier to maintain. I don't use nearly as many products on it like I do with the TTTF. Also, I've been on Pete's elite lawn program for a few years but I've also learned to tweak it a bit due to the fact that I do multiple soil tests per year on the TTTF.
@MrFergusonLawn Sweet. Around 8lbs per 1k sq ft from bare dirt? I'll be over seeding this fall with united seeds Super Turf II LS Tall Fescue-Bluegrass Blend. I'm thinking of dropping 6lbs per 1k sq ft.
