Another useless measure meanwhile all REAL INVESTORS run away from Thailand due to lack of rights and shady laws and justice and ever rising costs while quality stays the same of even deteriorates.... Most people i know that have a lot of money left for four very OBVIOUS REASONS.. 1. They can't own their land. 2. They need a Thai to be partner in their company 3. They have to pay taxes on income from abroad. 4. The visa options make no sense to a large group and are not very friendly nor certain...Not to mention all the others ridiculous things that give you a feeling you're just a tourist here no matter how long you live here...I contributed far more than all of my family together but still have virtually zero rights and/or claims to anything. I never invest more that i have to in Thailand. The rest is invested abroad where they actually reward me for my investments. If my wife and child were not Thai i would be gone long already and invest ALL of my money elsewhere...It's just a holiday country. Nothing more really.

Maybe Cambodia is easier, but it's much more dirty, poorer, and more expensive than Thailand. I was in Phnom Penh last month and couldn't understand why the price was as high or higher than in Bangkok. I didn't see as many tourists as in Thailand. My guess is that they are trying to make as much as they can from the few barangs visiting. I also had to do a lot of bargaining because almost everyone tries to scam you. Australians don’t get a visa on arrival it is a visa exemption. So it’s not a visa it’s an entry permit
@Ulbre
@Ulbre 2 месяца назад
It's a visa in every way that a visa is...including being a VISA!!!!!! The exemption means you don't have to go through the formality of applying for a visa if you are from an exempt county. If you read the Thai script it says that you are exempt from applying for visa and you will be granted a visa on entry. There is so much misinformation out there on this subject and I assume that a lot of this is due to interpretation of what Visa exempt meant when initially brought in in the late 60's or early 70's.

@@JoeyJoy The Elite, LTR and Retire visas already require a criminal check. If they come on a visa exempt on entry there's no criminal checks unless an international arrest warrant has been issued or stated their criminal history on entry. There's also no requirement to have required skills coming in on a tourist visa exemption as your unable to work. They now have a problem with overstayers and people working providing services for their home countrymen illegally. Such as tour guiding, van and taxi driving, which don't really require skills and takes work from Thais.

never heard of digital nomad until today. A woman was posting about staying in Bangkok as a digital nomad. Looks like its just people that film everything and help advertise the country without having to pay them to advertise the county. Oh heres a hotel. Stay here. Stay at the park. Stay on this street. Look at this place to eat. All free advertising. However that's probably not it but just the way i see it.

I worked for 26 years in the Visa Section of the Thai Embassy before retiring last year and these visa announcements amaze me in their uncoordinated nature as the branches of the government that are tasked with implementing these updated visa regulations often are not informed about the details and method of implementation until AFTER the date that they are supposed to come into effect! The Thai system is not geared to working efficiently and providing information except when it comes to making these jaw dropping proposals. The last time they made similar visa change announcements, it wasn't until one week after they were supposed to come into force did the Embassy receive information about the changes, and you can imagine that even now lots of people will be contacting their local Thai Embassy to ask details of the new visa changes, and how unproffessional it is to have to tell the inquirers that the Embassy doesn't know about them! The new visa changes are reportedly supposed to start in 2 days time on 1 June 2024, let's see when they actually do start!

There is always a catch. 1: if you stay longer than 180 days you then have to deal with the possible taxation issues, filing paperwork, etc. Those new taxation pressures on foreigners staying long term are not rung out yet. 2: The bit about proving financial ability is not laid out yet. What paperwork or documentation would they require? Monthly transfer in similar to current long stay visa requirements, or put that 500,000 baht on deposit in Thailand?

Elite visas are very different than the new DTV... ELite visas gives you full time residency in the country up to 10 years... the new DTV gives you a six month stay every year for five years... NOT full time residency.... The other thing we don't know yet is whether the DTV gives you come and go privileges during that 6 months.... or will you need to obtain a travel document each time you want to leave to visit for example Vietnam for a short break...
@texasranger2398
@texasranger2398 2 месяца назад
So for 5 years Elite visa you PAY around 20k pounds, but on new DTV you can stay during 5 years for 2,5 years for only visa fee 1k pounds (5 * 10 000 baht). No need to pay anything you keep your money you just need to prove funds 10k pounds. Also they saying that you can extend once for another 180 days which means you can stay 3 years - during 5 years paying only fees. This is good news however is bad news for Elite visa holders...is only 2 years more for staying on Elite visa and 19 K difference ?! Am I understanding this correctly or is there something wrong here ???

Many of the comments mention its money driven, which probably is the case. Visas in countries like Philippines are easier to deal with for tourists, Making it easier for law-abiding tourists to stay longer and spend their money in Thailand is a good thing. For those already staying on existing long term visas, don't hate , more people want to enjoy as well. I for one will be taking advantage of the 60 day visa exemption if not the 6 month one

IMHO the 60 day on arrival tourist visa with a 30 day extension via the immigration office is perfect. The question is whether one can make a border run to start the process over for an additional 60 day on arrival visa AND another immigration office 30 day extension; for a total of 180 days in country stay.

I don't understand why thailand has so many changes to visas on a regular basis. Lower the cost of the thai elite visa and retirement visas in general with easier terms, and more people with resources will move there and spend more money. Seems easy to fix bit what do I know.

It doesn't matter which visa you apply for. Thailand is a country where the visa regulations change so often that you can't be sure of anything. In six months or a year, things can change again. It's a very unstable situation, they change visa regulations like the dishes in a bar. For them it doesn't matter, but for people who move their lives to another country it means a lot. As long as residency and passport regulations don't change (which they never will), I'm not sure if this is the right country to live in...

Problem is the same around the world. Prices of everything are rising. Rent and buying homes in Thailand has risen a lot in the past few years. That, with cost of flights and cost of living at home just puts Thailand that bit far away for western countries. Visa's are not going to change this.

Hi, great report. - Well I have been following the visa issues from Thailand for quite some time. - I do have some serious doubts that these new measures will make much of a difference. My guess is more, that the Thai Officials have been misled into wishful thinking. Why? Well by your report, Thailand is in a critical position financially. So they think, quick money will fix it all. Maybe it would fix some of their issues, but it's unlikely this will work. - I have looked at Thailand for myself for a long time. And I have been to Thailand multiple times. And I loved it. Would I want to stay there for an extended period of time? Very unlikely. Why? Because Thai's treat farangs as gold goose. They are only intereseted in the gold, not the goose. Now, smart ex-pats do need a better offer. One of the key stumbling blocks is the Thai requirement, to always have another Thai co-owner, if you want to buy a house, open a company etc. This is the real killer issue. That's why nobody only halfway intelligent will go there for good. - Furthermore there are tons of stories of guys who went to Thailand with millions in their pockets only to finally leave the country in their underwear.... Thailand is a ripp off country for everyone not being Thai.
