I started at Cracker Barrel as a host and it was a NIGHTMARE, but it was mostly because of the guests and severs, guests never wanted the table you sat them at, so double seating and even triple seating was very common. Servers would literally just complain, complain and complain….
Omg I completely agree with you. This literally happened yesterday. I was seating a couple and their baby and they said “can we sit in a booth?” And they pointed to one and I said “no because that one is already reserved” and then they asked for another booth and I said “no we don’t have a server assigned to that section yet” and then they had the audacity to ask to be seated in the private dining room like they’re so special and I said no. They ended up getting a seat at the booth with no server and some server had to go out of their section and take it. I was so tempted to just say “no! You get what you fxcking get and you don’t throw a fit” another detail I left out, these people were walk-ins. They didn’t reserve or requested and booth.
And the worst part about the restaurant industry is the favoritism that managers have on certain people. You could be an amazing worker and someone gets the better postion based on the managers personal liking and not work ethic. where I work the servers don’t pre bus and they get mad at us for their table not being flipped fast enough
It’s only my second week at Olive Garden. I started noticing that when we are low with servers we also will have to help serve, clean tables, and bathrooms 😑 Real fun🙄😫
I totally get what you are saying. I used to be in the restaurant business and was not very good at it. People drove me up the wall all day everyday even at night.
SIS YES. PPL KEPT COMING IN, AND I COULDNT LEAVE AS A HOST, AND I GOT YELLED AT FOR NOT CLOCKING OUT LIKE I REQUESTED, AND CONFUSING THE MANAGER BECAUSE THEY WERE NOW CONFUSED ABOUT WHO TO CLOCK OUT WHO AT WHAT TIME. THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME SEE IM NOT ALONE
Yup. Red Lobster worker here, that's exactly how it's ran. It's not really all that bad until it gets busy, then you're stuck with 1,000 dirty tables and 50 mad customers.💁🏽♀️
I'm going to be hosting at a small asian bistro down the street. I hope it's not as bad as it seems because all the people saying hosting is bad at big American chains.

Well yes the customer is always right I guess. Though where I work, it is company policy to oblige if a customer wants a different table. I'm actually kind of ok with it since I can blame it on the policy and not myself. It's still annoying though and can ruin your game plan
workers still have feelings, they're not robots. some customers are just flat out rude for no reason, they have a right to get frustrated but they still do their job. you sound so entitled
In the restaurant I work at the employees are most important to them, the guests come second (that doesn’t mean they’d every important). If a guest is unjustly rude to a server the restaurant and managers will always be on the server’s side and they’d kick that guest out. It really depends on who’s in the wrong. The guest is not always right. I hate the term “the customer is always right” when they really aren’t. Not all the time at least.
