1978 North Star 1988 Madison Scouts 1989 Phantom Regiment 2002 Cavaliers 2003 Phantom Regiment 2011 Bluecoats *None of these videos belong to me, they all belong to DCI, and are for fan use only
Yes he is I totally admire that dude and I'm a trumpet player. Yes most trumpet players have a big ego but I'm rare and I don't have a big ego like the rest of my trumpet section.
Listen at 4:54. That is corps staff yelling out. It is a perfect moment for this production. This is by far the best show that never won the gold. It's the best of the best and will always be remembered as the night that was stolen from PR. 2008 Spartacus is a moment in time and can't be taken away, ever. This night, in 89", was stolen from PR though, it will always be their masterwork. They took visual and 2 brass captions that night. They also introduced the wedge that season. It's a masterpiece. Secretly, I hummed this entire show years thereafter.
I remember reading an internet post many years from a 1989 Vanguard member about that hit. They were in the tunnel getting ready to come on and his stomach became a brick of lead when he heard that hit and the audience response because he was sure that Regiment had just scooped the title out from under them.
2002 Cavaliers.....still feel like that show should have the highest score in DCI history. I'm a scouts fan, but sheesh....cavaliers in the 00's were crazy good.
@@calebrodriguez3465 Yep but that is a proper solo on his own for literally a minute plus with the whole stadium focused on him fuck that up and then he would of been remembered forever for the wrong reason. SCV 2018was just a couple of high nights tagged onto the ballad. Not really the same.
1989... I dont care WHAT the judges said... Phantom won. They should have beaten Santa Clara walking away. That was one of the most bad ass aggressive hornlines I have ever seen.
Right!?!!!!????!?! That Echo from the trumpets playing so clean and loud will always give me the chills! :D I became a fan when I saw this show, great way to be introduced to DCI!
i think this was the only time i cried in front of a girlfriend...both corps had awesome hornlines and PR's ending to new world was the best pure sound from a corp that i have ever heard! i agree, phantom won that night!
That is the best moment in phantom history, imho. I do not think it is right to take away the win from that. Even when listening casually you sill get chillss and goosebumps.
And I marched with that corps in 1978... Northstar...Jerry Noonan was the player one of the best Ever in dci history. Unfortunately he passed away but left a. Indelible mark on drum corps..rip Jerry
Wow! Talk about a blast from the past! I had totally forgotten about North Star. "Creep" is probably my favorite DCI moment, and '89 PR is my favorite PR show ever. Thanks for posting this!
Here watch them rehearse it in 2007: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jHQdSeWxZzU.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wxN5mvkAC3g.html I dare you to find the feet coming through the horn. You can't.
Marissa S F What’s wrong with letting girls be a part of the color guard? The only reason they’re all male color guards is because they didn’t let girls join but what’s wrong with letting them in? It’s both giving the Corp a bigger talent pool and letting more people enjoy the amazing experiences and opportunities that dci gives them. What’s wrong with that? Edit: plus without letting girls in color guard, almost all drum corps wouldn’t be able to fill all of the spots that they want to.
@@skye8916 look did I say something was wrong with female color guards?? Don't put words in my mouth. The original post stated they never seen an all male colorguard. I stated && you probably never will again because of this weak, pc climate that we have now!! Learn to read && get proper context before you try to come for me!!🤬
Geez dude calm down, to answer your question, no, you didn’t full out say that letting girls into color guards was bad but oh heavily implied it, especially with the rolling eyes emoji. You implied that an all male guard is better than a male and female guard which implies that you think letting girls join color guards was a bad thing. I’m surprised I had to spell that out for you. Also I didn’t come for you? I don’t even know you, your acting like a assaulted you or something.
It is Canon in D by Pachelbel, a well-renowned classical choir staple. Lots of bands probably use it by now. Thanks for sharing, though; always fun to hear other people’s experiences in marching band.
I will admit that some of the new stuff is genuinely unbelievably good. Tilt, Angels/Demons, Babylon, Relentless, Metamorph, all are incredibly good works of art. But I do agree with you that shows like Ink, Ghostlight, and Cabaret Voltaire shouldn't just be skyrocketed to 1st place cuz BD.
awesome! heres a few (I'm iffy on the years so bear with me) -Garfield or Cadets of Bergan County Appalachian Spring closer 87' -Star of Indiana Pines of Rome 90' -SCV Bottle dance Fiddler on the Roof 92 (maybe) - Blue Devils Tommy (91?) -Blue Devils The Godfather opening (that dagger drill gahh) Cadets of Bergan County Angels and Demons closer
Probably gotta be my favorite at 5:26 Symphony no.9 is just one of those classic music pieces that will always be an amazing and dramatic show/performance.
My dad directed the Columbians Drum Corps in the 50s and 60s from Pasco Washington took 5th in Vegas in 1962. I have enjoyed all drum corps things my whole life. I see there is a lot more theatrical production now and not so many restrictions It's definitely different. But the thrill is still the same love love love watching all of them. Sorry but no marching band will ever thrill the audience like a drum corps does. Congratulations to everyone on the corps. Love you
Cavaliers 2002: Not the show America deserved after 9/11 per se, but the one we sure as HELL needed. It took marching perfection back to basics, proved that on-field simplicity done incredibly well beats messy complexity, and showed the absolute MACHO intensity of the rebuilding American people and their unified post-9/11 comeback. Perfection.
Dont get me wrong, i love modern DCI, the props are sometimes annoying only if it gets in the way of the show too much such as players having to stop and constantly move the props but anyways, modern DCI can be great but 80’s and 90’s dci is a time i think we all want to go back to.
Melissa D. I played on a DCI Snareline late seventies--back when other women didn't. Were neither welcome nor encouraged. Sad. Fred Sanford of SCV, God rest his soul, introduced me to DCI. Would love to see corps go back to more the way it was back then.
It wasn't like that so much in mid-seventies. I saw it beginning to change in early eighties. Didn't like it at all. DCI should be just that NOT Bròadway on field!
DO IT!!! I wish I would have went out for DCI when i graduated back in 03' Oh well though. I did get to see the DCI NIGHTBEAT this past summer and it was AH-Mazing. I did continue my musical career (unlike so many of our band family counterparts) check out my current band. I play drums (if you can't tell by my profile pic heh) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NAn7FUbHboY.html
I play marimba for the lakewood highschool bengal regiment. I started in auxiliary my freshman year with 0 music experience. Then vibes my sophomore year and most recently marimba.
This is twice I've seen you comment on a DCI video. Let me rebuttal your comment by saying they may not wail like they used to, but they are a HELL of a lot more entertaining story and visual wise. I mean.. The first video is like a minute long trumpet solo... Just trumpet. Now, I am a fan of talent and DCI and music in general, but after about 15-30 seconds, I get bored of the just a trumpet player. Yeah, what came AFTER the solo is incredible, and his wailing and whatnot was pure talent, just not my taste.
I have never heard such smooth and gorgeous sounds come from a trumpet (High school band wise). In all honesty, this is awesome! It's amazing to watch!
Phantom 2010 - closer right at the chevron! SCV 2009 - simple gifts Bluecoats 2008 - The boxer Star of Indiana 1991 - The last minute! just a few suggestions for the next one :)
Bob this is just a small sample of what drum and bugle Corps is due anyway I thought you might enjoy it it's just a small brief highlight of a couple of course and that's it I'll be a little tied up this week have chemotherapy okay take care hope you are doing better
And instantly between MS '88 thru PR'03 to BC'11 you can hear the degradation of sound in the brass. High school band instruments belong to high school, not drum corps.
I think they completely destroyed the show for the first one. Like yeah yeah you can show off your trumpet or something but all that trying to get as high as possible and the entire show stopping for it, that sucked and they seem like they had a great show besides that
Met G. Royer (RIP), in 1990.... Big, hulk.of a guy; gentle giant. I was rooting for Santa Clara Vanguard long before I met him. Got to see them win it all in '93!
