Still need to get around to spinning it and reading the Garage book as well. Gave it a good flip through but have a bunch of other books to get to as of late. Just got the Sarah records book too!

The basement was overwhelming, where the heck do you go? You buy all those albums that I would bypass. Thanks for doing a shorter video than Dave lol. I hope he put some stuff in your hands.

I think he successfully landed one but I know I repaid the favor at least once my self. You gotta come out this way Steve!

Nice dig indeed with plenty of new interesting finds. That John Surman is one I have been looking for for a while. Good score. Terry Plumeri is great indeed. It's practically an ECM release. Josef K and Lo Yo Yo Stuff are both up my alley big time. I have the complete Josef K on CD but that record is the one to get. Between and Bismallah Khan are also big faves. Nice stack of records. And Mr Chris Cole is a saint and a true brother. I hope he is ok.

Actually just found another copy of that Surman which I am stashing for you. Cheap too so like our fellow friend Chris likes to do, will start building a box of stuff to send your way. But this was a good day and found plenty of reasonably priced records.

That Josef K is a classic. I have a UK original I got at the time in my teens, My copy has been played to death though

Dom, some nice pickups there, and that basement, wow! You really need time to go thru all that, but for sure a fun time. The ECM albums are pretty common around here, but I can't say that I have seen that one out in the wild. Cool VCLT there and a nice book. Cheers

Yeah you can't possible begin to get through all of that, but you kind of don't need to. There's a bunch of stuff in that basement that is cheapo stuff too but it's fun to pick a spot and see what you find. We were only down there for like an hour. thanks for checking in!

Most strata east go down pretty easy. Mboom and the brother ah maybe the most difficult if I think about it quickly. I believe Clifford Jordan in this world is also part of dolphy series.

No doubt, I forgot to mention Clifford Jordan In The World which I do have here. Mboom...the stuff dreams are made of.

I just ran into, and picked up that Sylvian 12" as well. The only Gunter Hampel stuff I have is 2 records with Marion Brown, need to get into him some more.
@seekingathread

Hampel is an interesting character for sure, I can recommend this done definitely. Guess he was with Jeanne Lee

Dom, your guided tour was nice, Brandon and Joe, down to business, talking about Peter Brotzmann, while Dave does his slapstick comedy routine. Gunter Hampel was married to Jeanne Lee. The albums on Birth were available on Mail Order, I never saw them in shops, not even the basement. The New Albion label was an essential label for me, I would grab anything from them, Carl Stone, Lou Harrison, Alvin Curran, Terry Riley... The Wergo label was another endless source of ''new'' modern classical music, plus other off- beat recordings! The ''Kekeland'' album by Brigitte Fontaine from 2001 features a song with Sonic Youth and a song with Archie Shepp, I bought the cd for 99 cents.

@seekingathread 8 месяцев назад
Nice Michael, I do now remember the Kekeland album as a Sonic Youth super fan. Wow, deep one there. I think the one Carl Stone LP I have is on New Albion. Ha, there was much talk about Brotzmann.

One day I will try to convince you guys to go just a wee bit further north and come digging in Toronto, the exchange rate alone would make it worth while as long as you don’t mind Cdn pressings

I have about sixteen Gunter Hampel albums & Jeanne Lee is on most them, no doubt due to them being married back then. Oasis on the Horo label is a good one as it is two records of just the two of them.

Areski, early to mid 70's Henderson, Simon Simon .....we have common ground and time with the colossus of sociolinguistic savvy, VC Amba Dave, the diggers dream is manifested! Sylvian, polarising musician, he has his fans, I've adopted many decades of ambiguity towards his opus.
@seekingathread

So far I've been somewhat unmoved by the Sylvian I've heard so we shall see if it hooks me.

@@seekingathread His voice is quite marmite, his offerings received an outrageous amount of hype back in the UK in the 90s/00s from the more 'left field' music press. The only record of his I have with a loose connection is Avalon Sutra.

Josef K informed the direction of my future musical preferences in the 1980s through to the early 90s, without them I would've understood Big Flame or Eton Crop...and they're completely entangled with my love for the June Brides...and. without them I probably would've begun listening to other musical forms which had a brass section.

@@seekingathread for worthwhile obscurity, odd vocals and jumpy noise guitars I'd also suggest the Glasgow band 'Dawson' from circa 1990 to be filed somewhere between The Ex and Fugazi ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aFipUvPM8ZQ.html I believe Jer Reid, still makes music with noise band the Sumshapes, Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and other projects.

Looks like some great finds; nothing better than having a full day to dedicate to the hunt. And having some friends along to share the experience with makes it even better. Years ago there was a little known shop in Detroit (Dearborn) with a basement stacked with records in no particular order. Just thousands of random records. A fun but sometimes frustrating way to hunt. There were gems to be found but they weren’t given up easily. Lol. Great video. Thanks for sharing. 🍻

Oh man I've been to places like that. Total mess of records. This place in Brooklyn called The Thing was just like that. Records everywhere, no organization, a giant mess. Never found too much there honestly but was fun. Cheers Shawn

Cecil Payne killer album his tone is so addictive those Strat East albums are a must they offer so many different levels of jazz . That meet up look joyous I would have lost my mind in that basement .
