I honestly thought he could see her on the other side since he kept going back to the exact same spot that she was and dance like he knew she was there
@@ma-yi I wasn't correcting her, I was saying that she made that comment 3 years ago and now it's 11 years since that movie was made and still is the most iconic dance on Disney:)
Lets be honest, as kids we all pretended to dance this scene like selena and pretend that we were facing that one person who we hate, just as she did in the movie
For those of you saying he seems "self obsessed" when he's looking into the mirror very passionately, I don't think so. I think he's imagining that he's dancing with that one girl, according to the song and some moves.
Laila 8057 A double is someone they used for the dancing scenes from afar, someone more advanced. What Selena did was learn the basics of the dances and they used her for the close ups. But when the camera would pan out, it would be a more experienced dancer in her place. Hope my explanation helped (:
this whole scene of them dancing in front of each other was crazy symbolic !! almost like saying that Selena’s character (Mary) sees him, but Joey couldn’t really see her yet. That’s why if you listen closely to the song playing where the lyrics say, “it’s almost like I can see her... she’s just that girl.” Mary obviously has had an innocent little crush on Joey Parker from the start, so once they kept bumping into each other at the beginning of the movie, Joey saw Mary but wasn’t really seeing her yet. Mary of course saw him for what he was etc... So I think this scene was done very beautifully in showing that ! The parallels of how these two characters were so different yet shared a passion & love for dance really kept them connected even with having a mirrored wall between them (symbolism) ! lol done with my ranting !
Kathy A. I was just gonna say she can see him, but even he can’t recognize himself or see her yet because he’s not the best version he can be hence the one way mirror 🥺
Wow, You articulated this beautifully and I couldn't agree more! I saw this scene as a small teen and remember feeling this aching pain of amazement in my chest and I rewatched the scene a hundred times. It just baffles me, like, HOW did they come up with this? I don't understand how this idea can just spark into someone's mind, so freaking creative! Lol
Honestly, the mirror dance between drew and Selena was probably the est between the two. Too bad they used it so quickly. It would've been epic as their last dance together in the film
Agreed, the only time they had chemistry. This movie ended the "cinderella" story thing too quickly. When he found out who she was, I was like... soooo is this movie over?
I don't think it should have been the LAST dance but it should have been after the Black and White Ball because it would make way more sense and have a lot larger impact...but it happens literally 11 minutes into the movie where Mary and Joey talked idk once
In the movie everyone is like omg moment. Joey and Selena up against the mirror. But everyone else on joeys side are like "man he is really conceded isn't he I mean he is just dancing with the mirror.
Agreed and he was like it's over and she was like she will be together again and he never picked her he picked his perfect match that he was suppose to pick. And that blond girl tryed to break everything they had but no he got her and when they where together you would feel the connection and perfection between them. They where supposed to be together from the beginning and he got her. And they where meant for each other from the start!
3:28 I loved this moment right here. I always thought of this as like he felt a presence on the other side of the mirror cuz both Joey and Mary put their hands against it. Whether he physically felt a slight push back or he felt someone looking back at him. He literally connected with Mary in that moment but he just couldn't figure out what he was feeling or why.
I don't know, but this scene leaves me tingling with unrequited chemistry... The way they can feel each other, but not see. The way he's unconsciously magnetized and angled around her, the way she can see him and he can't, but he's dancing to a song for her unknowingly... This movie was the first stepping stone for me to start loving Selena. This movie is the very reason she is my role model today. She's a complete package: undeniably good-looking, a matchless actress, a great singer and dancer.
He's staring at himself in the mirror and looks like he's gonna fall in love..I'm sorry I know it should be like 'romantic' but he only sees himself, so...it's kinda strange lol
***** man, what's your problem? You can't tell me that it isn't ridiculous how he looks at himself and acts like he's fallen in love. I was just pointing that out
Nope. But i learned it and teached my friends on the dance class but it was many years ago and i still remember of it sorta :D Im 25 but i am so love this movie :D
Ok, i've always loved this scene but the one thing i never understood was why those three girls were wearing heels. For a clearly hip hop dance class. The entire time im watching this video I'm like terrified one of them is gonna sprain an ankle XD
Actually those are dance shoes. They are slick on the bottom so turns/spins are easier! They aren't bad to dance in once you get the hang of it! Definitely much easier than tennis shoes lol
Ya, dance heels are super hard to learn (without seriously injuring yourself) but once you learn them, everything from hiphop to ballet looks almost X10 more graceful or powerful depending on the style you are currently using. And I ten to agree tennis shoes are the spawn of satan when it comes to dancing. Like seriously just keep the shoes you were wearing on, they are actually recommended shoes for hip hop
Well the blondie was draped all over him and he didnt like her anymore. He used to. So he let her fall. He did another step by thr mirroe nd I guess he sensed her?
This was my favourite scene, you can feel the connection between them and it's though they know each other is there but they can't touch 😍😭👌🏼 childhood
a lot of dance studios have them, so the dancers outside can see themselves doing the choreography but people outside can watch the class also. although it usually isnt between two studios but a studio space and a viewing area
imagine being one of the students just vibing and then you look over and see joey dancing with himself in the mirror like that lmao i would burst out laughing SKJSJDSK
Has anyone else noticed that there is a video of Mary when she was little freaking out over Joey but they're the same age and Mary was little and Joey was the same age as he is now. That just doesn't make sense.
When it gets to the part when he dances in the mirror I love how ppl say that he just sees his own reflection when I'm over here seeing it like he can feel her through the mirror
+Ash Eiznekcam What the hell are you talking about? Malachai Parker was portrayed by Chris Wood, Joy Parker was portrayed by Drew Seeley, they are not the same person, the one thing that those two character have in common is the last name
What an entrance. So wonderfully reflective interplay, looking in the mirror I could see your face, capped off with humors handy moment & laugh, a delight, many thanks for posting : )
@@miaismail3574 well duh but like two runs and they're already in sync??? Plus he's just freestyling on the third so its not even like they have a guide, not a single straggler and they've been at it for less than five minutes
