I feel like Mighty Nein is a lot of people's favorite because it is effectively where the CR fandom exploded. The starting of a whole new campaign was an easier jumping in point for people who had been aware of the show but hesitant to binge through 100+ 4 hour episodes of Vox Machina. So it's where a lot of people got their true start with Critical Role. Me, I'm an old schooler that boarded the train before Vox Machina even finished their first on-stream arc, so they will always be the closest to my heart. That and as time has passed it's been harder for me to devote time to watching full episodes of the other campaigns, though I don't really try to hide from spoilers and have a good following of how things have played out.

The silhouette of each character in the end are the main characters of the Mighty Nein, from left to right from actor names are Marisha, Travis, Ashley, Sam, Liam, Taliesin, Laura. Each line in the trailer are lines lifted straight from the second campaign tho re recorded.

So, these lines are all quotes from the campaign, taken from important moments or chosen for their poignance for the overarching story of C2. And they did it while being vague enough not to spoil anything for people who've not seen C2. Which is a feat in and of itself.

This new series is gonna be a favorite already because to some Critters, this was their first campaign of Critical Role. Even though Vox Machina was the first campaign of CR, Mighty Nein campaign was from beginning to end. This one is gonna be awesome in animation! Can't wait!

Out of curiosity, why did some people start with Mighty Nein instead of Vox Machina?
@7mmfurryartist656
@7mmfurryartist656 Год назад
@SilverScribe85 I think it's because it was a campaign that started from the very beginning. What I mean by that is that Vox Machina as a stream showcase to us when they were already in a middle of their first campaign. So if you were watching the Critical Role channel, you were thrown into an already existing game. Mighty Nien, campaign 2, they actually were able to stream the first episode. I think that's why to some people, Mighty Nein was their first.

@@7mmfurryartist656 OH! So, chronologically speaking; the stories of Nein came before Vox Machina (in terms of the world's timeline)?
@7mmfurryartist656
@7mmfurryartist656 Год назад
@SilverScribe85 OH! Maybe I mis spoke. The legend of vox machina is technically the first story in world's time line. But when Critical Role aired their live tabletop shows on twitch, it was in middle of a story already. Mighty Nein is the next story in the time-line, but as a live show on twitch, they got to start that story from the beginning for the audience. Does that help? Oh and the Mighty Nein is in the same world as Vox Machina but does not relate to them.
@holi117
@holi117 Год назад
@@SilverScribe85i think that lots of people started with mighty nein because at that point there was a good following, they had worked out a lot of bugs and kinks in the streaming and youtube uploading… people had good vibes after the build up from the second half of vox machina streaming… and since Vox machina was originally played by the guys in their home THEN streamed after already playing for several months, it was easier to follow and get into?

Vox Machina was fantastic, but Mighty Nein gave the opportunity to see the campaign from the beginning...it created more of a bond with the characters growing with them from the beginning. Jester (Laura Bailey's character) is my favorite out of all 3 campaigns. The scene from the Travis quote in this teaser was EPIC. There are several nods to Mighty Nein in The Legend of Vox Machina. You'll spot them when this comes out I'm sure. I love seeing reactors go in blind; however, I'm sure you'll love this either way. It's just fun to see the way people respond when they are fresh rather than familiar with the source material. Lastly...cupcakes! You'll know when you see it ;)

The thing about the MN is that they're all very broken people who become a found family by chance and confronting that trauma. The Mighty Nien's story is much more personal and less epic fantasy which is why I think it struck a cord with so many people. As the last quote said they're heros nobody knows about and they ended up fighting for very personal reasons. Yes they save the world in typical fantasy fashion but it being the right thing to do wasn't their primary reason for it. It's what made it so interesting to watch.

At 0:50 The mighty nein refers to the fact that on the first episode, and throughout the whole campaign, on a D20, they kept rolling a 9 on almost every single roll! And with Caleb speaking with a German Accent, they decided to call themselves the Mighty Nein spelled in the German style. Even NOW, in campaign 3. Every time someone rolls a 9, the whole cast gets wispy eyed..

I have a feeling the Mighty Nein show is gonna be even more popular than LoVM among Critters (if only because C2 was a lot of Critters' first and therefor _their_ campaign), but perhaps not _as_ popular with people who just watch it as a show, not an adaptation. At least if it was a standalone show. Simply because C1 had a much more traditional overall storyline, with much more traditional fantasy-archetype heroes. Vox Machina was a bunch of assholes who grew to care about justice and peace, set out to save the world and became the grand heroes of the realm. The Mighty Nein... were a bunch of assholes who grew to care about each other and maybe saved the world on accident along the way. That's not to say VM didn't care about each other or that that wasn't important to the story, but with the M9 is was primarily those bonds and their individual backstories that drove the plot. The whole campaign was more 'sidequests-accidentally-turned-main-quest' than C1. Which is not a bad thing, I just think it'll be harder to adapt that to a form that's palatable to an audience that's not used to an Actual Play type of story telling. That being said, the folks at CR and Titmouse have definitely proven their chops at making a _very good adaptation_ so there's no one I'd trust more to turn C2 into just as much of a hit as LoVM. And the fact that the two shows _are_ in fact linked will probably mean people who've not seen the campaigns, but have seen LoVM will be willing to check the M9 show out, just because of that.

This show is probably multiple years away I'd imagine so how blind you want to go in is up to you. Personally I saw S1 of Vox Machina as the first thing CR related I'd ever seen, then watched all of Campaign 1 before S2 came out and it didn't hurt my enjoyment any. If anything I think I got more out of it since the compressed time of the show obviously meant some things had to be cut out. If you've got the time and the inclination then I'd very much recommend watching C2, it's a lot of fun and has some of my personal favorite characters from CR as a whole.

I'm very excited for Mighty Nein not actually because of how much I like C2, but more so due the logistics of it. They have a few seasons of Vox Machina under their belt now and I'm sure have learned a lot in the process of making these seasons, and I expect that to show. But also, they don't have the weird limitations that happened with Vox Machina both because of how the animated series came to be, but also due to the way the first campaign started streaming partway into the actual campaign (and some drama with a former cast member that makes it difficult to adapt the earlier stuff). With the Kickstarter, it was basically initially just trying to get a single maybe hour-long special about a pre-stream story to give critters something fun that they hadn't seen. With the extreme success of the Kickstarter, that ballooned into a two part special and an eight part series covering the Briarwood Arc. This is essentially what we got for season one, but with two more episodes (and a second season) funded by Amazon after they picked up distribution. I think they were already fairly far into production when this happened so there weren't that many adjustments they could make to plotting at that point. So a lot of plotting of that first season was based around the framework of the Kickstarter and not necessarily a long-term view about an entire multi-series run. Mind you, I'm sure they were still hoping for that and wanted to lay the potential groundwork for it. But I do think season one was very much limited by it nonetheless, compared to if they'd gone in from the start thinking about a multi-season series. With Mighty Nein, they have the full campaign to work with and they can script it out with a multi-season series in mind from the start. And they have a few seasons of experience and a fully built team to work with from the beginning. So, while I'm trying to temper my expectations a bit, I'm hoping for good things.

Mighty Nein might even be better that Vox Machina (if that is even possible), because while the first campaign was effectively a home game adapted for a live show; Mighty Nein started from the moment the party met so we will get to see as the party comes together and learns to trust each other. In the same way while the Legend of Vox Machina was in a way a new thing requiring them to streamline the story as they did not know if it would be successful; Mighty Nein will likely be more accurate to the original story as now Amazon will see it as a more surefire investment. Overall super excited to see this merry band of misfits come to animation!

Honestly, just like with LoVM, there probably isn't really one way to watch it that's 'better' than the other. If you've seen the campaign you're gonna love the show. If you watch the show blind you're gonna love it and if you then go back to watch the campaign you're gonna love it even more. It's just a different kind of enjoyment. But what I'd recommend is that you do one _or_ the other. Go in completely blind or watch the whole campaign beforehand. Being partially spoilled (for a first time viewing) is no fun and I just think that knowing where the characters end up, the person they end up being adds a lot to an 'adaptation-type' viewing of the show. Ofc we don't know when this is coming out so we don't know how much time there is to actually watch all the hundereds of hours of campaign, so that might be a factor in which route you choose. And ofc if you want the absolutely _complete_ experiece, you can watch the entire show first, _then_ watch the entire campaign and _then_ go back and watch the show again, this time as an adaptation.

At 3:07, this man knows NOTHING, about these guys. Yet he gets chills too. It's taking everything I have not to scream out loud in excitement. And as far as Travis's character goes. His character in the Mighty Nein, "Ford" may be the best role Model for "Healthy Masculenity and Truly being a Man" I have ever experienced in my life. Lots of people throw around "Toxic Mascuklenity" all the time. But for those that KNOW Ford's story. Travis proved it all false. He single handedly showed what it meant to be a real man on that campaign. Feeling emotions, asking for help when needed & confronting his own fears & weaknesses and then, the struggle to build himself back up. To become comfortable in his own skin. To recognize himself and be okay with whom he was. I think that's something all men struggle with. I know I do. TRAVIS. Oh lord. Travis. He paved the way, with that character.

If you've managed to avoid it so far, I would STRONGLY advise, if you want to go in knowing nothing, not to look up ANYTHING about any of the characters. Not even images. This campaign has a stronger visual design element from the start than VM did (because they began this game knowing it would be streamed, which unavoidably changed some of the prep going into it) so like, they had "official" character art from the drop, and elements of it reveal things about certain characters as the campaign goes on. Don't google anything, even anything official. I would hate for you to be spoiled because you think looking up basic/official character info is safe. :) M9 is SUCH a shift from VM, tonally. VM are very much your archetypal adventuring group, for all that they grow to be wonderful and unique, they do adhere to a lot of tropes (remember that this was the first DnD character for many of them.) The M9 are... not that, lol. Pure fucking chaos. In the best way. I find it hard to say one campaign is a favourite over the other because they are SO different. I adore them both, and honestly I think if forced at pepperbox point I would pick C1 as my favourite overall campaign? BUT M9 has probably more of my favourite individual moments, and my second favourite overall character (my fave is in C3). ANYWAY you asked. Lol. THAT SAID, honestly, I feel like being spoiled for the live campaign is worse than being spoiled for the animation? Like, I started watching CR a little late, and a few important points in C2 had already been spoiled for me before I saw it. I found that, for the liveplay knowing those moments were coming took away some of what makes the liveplay so much fun to watch. But knowing the entire Briarwood and Chroma Conclave arc going into the VM animated show, I've found, has enhanced that experience for me because, having first experienced the "full" story, all the emotional twists and turns and shocks, it's then cool to see how they take those moments and make them shine in a new way. The reasons I watch them are different I think? Like, yes I watch both animation and Liveplay because of the characters and the story, but I found, knowing a bunch of things going into the start of the C2 liveplay, I got bored during the early episodes (I was well hooked by the end, just near the start some things were spoiled), despite the same wonderful players and interactions and so on, because some things could only go a certain way, I found it a lot less fun. Your mileage may vary, of course. I dunno, decide which version you want spoiled for you, personally, I guess? Because one of them has to be. I feel like if you can only watch one version spoiler-free then the liveplay is the one to watch, but I'm repeating myself, if you made it this far, sorrynotsorry? :p

I definitely disagree about MN being better. Of the 3 campaigns, I feel like it’s definitely the weakest. That doesn’t mean it’s bad by any means, and I enjoyed some of the central arcs, but I definitely lost interest in the final arc in a way I never did with VM. Honestly there are only 2 characters I care enough about to be anxious to see animated (and one is an NPC who probably won’t even show up in the first season - I’m trying not to get my hopes up even though he’s the one Matt was voicing here), so I’m nowhere near as hyped as I was for VM, which kind of sucks. That said, the animated series made me enjoy the Briarwood arc (my least favorite aside from the end of C2) and have managed to almost make Scanlan tolerable, something I believed to be pretty much impossible, so maybe I’ll be more excited once we get into it. Regardless of my feelings on the campaign itself, if it brings more attention to CR and helps get C3 animated, I’m all for it and I do hope it does well.

honestly as someone who put the work in to binging VM and finished the last episode juuust as MN was starting i was really excited to see a campaign from day 1 it started out fine, but honestly i ended up falling behind due to irl stuff and once getting to about episode 61 i dropped it completely, the characters didnt have the same life to them, they didn't feel like they were characters made from the heart, they didn't have that same depth that VM did, they felt like they were made SPECIFICALLY for an audience, i think it really suffered from the success they found and their hope to recreate it, i do hope the animated series will help with those issues as things are condensed and corrected, i realize i missed out on what people would call 'the best parts' of it in the later half of the game but it feels like a chore to watch through them :/ it NEVER felt like that in C1, the upside is i think they learned from mistakes and C3 has been amazing again :D i almost never miss a live show and when i do i can catch right up on monday :3 cant wait for them to get a bellshells animation once this campaign wraps up XD idk i always seem to be the only one who thinks MN is a slog to watch the live play of... though i realize that MUCH of the beginning of MN suffers due to Ashleys constant absents and Travis and Laura having a baby XD havign 3 of the main group gone for a large section def hurt it as they lost that characterization time with us as an audience but by episode 61 i should be excited to watch every week and i just can't be fucked :/
