We’re back on the front lines of Hurricane Helene storm recovery here in Western NC. We’re working through Biltmore Forest in Asheville, removing massive trees off of homes before the next round of rain (or not... the weather keeps changing!). With flooding, mudslides, and unpredictable conditions, we're racing against time to prevent further damage and help families get back on their feet.
This video, as well as our previous video and all related Shorts, are fundraisers for the American Red Cross, which has opened over 15 shelters across Western NC and Upstate South Carolina. You can also make a donation directly to the American Red Cross by clicking the donate button above. Please also consider supporting more local relief efforts to help our community. Every bit helps.
Follow think link to donate directly to our home county of McDowell→checkout.squar...
Follow this link for an extensive list of organizations on the front lines of this crisis → www.bpr.org/bp...
If you have the experience and equipment to safely assist us with storm work fill out this form: forms.gle/or1w... This work is incredibly dangerous, and we need experienced hands only.
Thank you to everyone reaching out-your prayers and support are deeply appreciated.
If you have more questions about the process of working storm work from a business perspective I'm happy to talk about it on our free Dirt to Dollars trades business coaching program. We typically do them every Tuesday night 7CT/8ET. I will likely need to cancel the one coming up on Oct 8th though. I'll let you all know. In the meantime, feel free to go ahead and sign up here → dirttodollarsc...

Every hurricane I’ve ever been in (lots over the years on SE coast), first thing that happens is we get busy with the saws and start cutting our way out. Everyone in the area helps one another. Once thats done then we take lots of pictures before we cut trees off of houses as insurance is a rip off so you gotta have proof of what it looked like before starting. We all just come together and take care of one another with generator power to save food, when water gets turned back on-hot showers reason I refuse to have an electric water heater or an electric stove, we all cook for one another. Its a process that takes time. Yall got the equipment that makes it easier. Mini’s, bucket trucks, dump trucks, etc. still dangerous work at times. Yall be safe out there.

I cannot believe all the negative comments about John. I had a huge tree fall after a heavy thunderstorm and it land on my A-frame back porch where a stone fireplace was located. The top of the tree barely went through the second floor bedroom. This happened on a Friday afternoon and Monday morning at 8 am my ins agent, along with the tree removal guy, two bobcats and two other men. I think this was back in 2010 and cost $4k for one tree. The cost of John’s equipment and paying his workers cost money.

Look..as a Western North Carolina resident im going to say this as kindly as i can. If you are here with the intention of billing insurance companies for profit when everything has been sorted out then you dont have the sort of priorities that we need up here. No, we dont expect people to do everything for free but actively discouraging other companies from making their way here because you dont think they can handle it doesnt sit right with me. There are many smaller jobs these companies that have no storm experience can do but discouraging them from coming here at all sounds to me like you have elevated your own importance and are attempting to monopolize on any jobs that will have a pay out. That may not be your intention but its what it sounds like...because weve already seen other companies doing the same....claiming only they have the "right" kind of experience for this only because they want the jobs for themselves...and dont want their competitors here. Its important that people who come to help prioritize actually helping people...not wonder how they will be paid at the moment or in the future. We dont need a tree removal guy coming up to our doors offering to cut us free for the lowly sum of $150k...we need you guys to respect that we dont have anything right now and understand that you will have to wait a while to be paid by insurance. We also know that many of you are going to overcharge our insurance companies for your services...so if ANY of this is what you are doing or even thinking about right now the best thing to do is leave our area. We are NOT your cash cow. We're real people who have been through things you can only imagine.
@officialjohnseaman
@officialjohnseaman 2 дня назад
We are based in McDowell county. Sounds like you’ve misunderstood some comments as no one is charging $150k to cut some out, we do that for free. We also don’t overcharge insurance because that’s not good business. We have an effort for experienced people to come in and help. @mysticmama_3692
@mysticmama_3692 2 дня назад
I agree. He's acting like he's the only one our area that knows what to do. He's going to bill the hell out of these people's insurance companies for this work...his admission of telling people how that works tells you that he himself is going to do the same. He obviously has the money to wait for the insurance claims to go through...but you can bet he will overcharge these insurance companies. There are a TON of people who are coming her to make a profit...trying to get a portion of state and federal allocated funds for cleanup and overcharging to make WAY more money than they normally would for tree removal. Yes...this level of storm damage is grueling to work on to remove but they shouldn't be coming here if all they're after is a profit in the end. We need people helping us that care more about human beings than the almighty dollar.

Knowing how to run a saw and knowing how to strategically remove a tree from someone’s house are two very different things. We have already received numerous calls from people who have had guys get injured and do more damage to their homes than good trying tho do something they have no experience with. We appreciate the desire to help tremendously but removals from homes is not a job for anyone. That being said, like I talk about in the first phase of storm clean up, anyone who can run a saw to clear people who are trapped out is needed but we are working past that point one week in.
