Ya know Michael I can't help but think these souls who are mentally ill, drugs & alcohol addiction probably aged out of foster care , parents passed , divided families. Death of a spouse, and the girld....they often have been harmed by only God knows who. I pray for all of the homeless. 😊
I understand why we shut down all the asylums in the 80s, but how is it more than 40 years later, we can't re-open them with THOROUGH and transparent institutional, government, and citizen/public oversight and regulation to make sure the atrocities of the past don't occur again in these places? Leaving them to fend for themselves on the street without being in any mental capacity to survive there seems unbelievably cruel.

My mom almost broke down& cried when she saw Thor's condition. We've never seen someone this bad. It's heartbreaking. He needs to be committed to a psych ward. His skin is so dirty I'm surprised his wounds are not infected.
I wish I could donate to get him a hotel room for a night and some clothes but I’m struggling financially so I can’t afford to one day I plan on going all out to help people like Thor and all the others in these videos
he probably has to do harm or be a public nuisance before police or social services step in and admit him into a psychiatric ward. by that short interaction, he's just displeasing to look at. hell, a lady approached him with something that he accepted like it was just two normal people.
@@shuriKen469 It’s obvious that this poor man is severely unwell and disheveled. It seems to me that this would be enough to have him admitted and stabilized. If an animal were displaying the same characteristics, it would be a no- brainer. I am ignorant of their laws and procedures, but just saying.

Agree, but you can't force people to take the help, they have to want the help, like an alcoholic and drug addict. If they don't do it for themselves, it will not work.
i would've though someone in that condition would already be in a psychiatric ward. that lady was too kind to offer him something. i guess like y'all have eluded to, he's only a danger to himself.

I used to frequent that laundry mat and it has always been a very bad area. There is J2 labradorite and a NA\AA meeting place in that complex as well as a Smoke shop and Pawn shop and Shady massage place. In other words its a prime breeding ground for crime and other bad elements and a short distance from negative things to basically keep people poor and addicted to something. Honestly it's about as "hood" as you can get, this is an area that basically you become forgotten about, I teared up when I saw that lady kindly give him something because that complex makes most people lock there doors to the car. The fact she just focused on being kind is something that makes me think this world is starting to wake up and take care of each other.
When I was in my psychiatric rotation in nursing school, my instructor likened the schizophrenic mind to that of an egg shell, ... Easily broken and very fragile. She said most schizophrenic people are much more afraid of you, due to their fragile mind, than you are of them. After all these years, I have never forgot her words as I have taken care of schizophrenic patients.

As funny as it sounded, light sodas are the lesser of the two evils. I will only drink Coke if it is the only soft drink available at someone's house. A doctor once told me that state troopers use Coke to clean up blood stains from sidewalks, highways. If I want soda, I drink Sprite or Ginger Ale because they are caffeine free.
I just wish Chris would go home. It's obvious his family loves him. I think he feels guilty for the life he is living. He's very intelligent. Maybe someday he will get tired of that life. That poor guy with schizophrenia just breaks my heart. He should be in a place to help him. Most people probably think he's on drugs and that's why he acts that way. That's what I thought at first. The poor guys skin is black from dirt. Just so sad. I don't think Kale will ever leave his little spot. He needs medical attention too. Just all makes me sad...Thank you Michael for what you do.❤❤
If I feel this good watching a stranger helping poor people, I can't wait until I can help too. Breaks my heart to see homeless people suffering, especially if they're on drugs.
Sir, you are a saint. 45 years ago I was a street kid in western Canada. Was easier in a way,because I didn’t have to worry about the predators. Not so many of us,so we could hide out of sight. Soup kitchens only go so far,because if you can’t get there you don’t eat. So hard to say how much I would have appreciated someone like you. Who actually cared,not paid to supposedly care. Can only imagine how careful a woman needs to be out on the streets. Even a kind gesture has to be evaluated for danger. Stay safe out there, brothers and sisters!
Women on the street always have to ask themselves, what is the cost for this gift of food or whatever if I take it, and I am not speaking of monetary cost. Some people who give gifts want something back that isn't so nice. Some people give the homeless poison food too. I have seen that happen.
I went out yesterday and helped 3 people in need . I never have enough. Today I went to haul water and got a flat tire . This wonderful man helped me , it's an F-350 I wouldn't have been able to do it myself. Thank you so much for all you do Mike

I've watching your videos for over a year, and I've noticed that besides the same people you always help but also there are more new homeless people in the streets. Why doesn’t someone help Thor to get into some kind of home for his special needs. He couldn’t have been living on the streets all his life. Somebody must have taken care of him at one time.
America doesn’t treat their mentally ill very well. Thor probably gets admitted to the psychiatric ward from time to time, when they stabilize him, they turf him. Unless family members take care of him, they live on the streets. It’s very sad.
@@anitadriver461 does that make sense to get him in and out psychiatry all the time ? he needs permanently some medication and not getting in and out of psychiatries.

All the asylums were shut down in the 80s (in much part to Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" in 1962 and then, especially, the film in the 70s. Once decades and decades of mistreatment and abuse and horrible crimes going on in those places was exposed, they started to shut all of them down in the early 80s. I'm baffled as to how THAT was the proper solution rather than revamping regulation and oversight of them so that they could do the good they were intended for while being protected by government and citizen/independent oversight and transparency.... but I guess it's somehow better to leave them fending for themselves on the streets where they are in no mental capacity to survive that way than to just remodel the way it was done in a humane and compassionate way.
