This is the first portable washing machine that I have seen with an agitator. That's great I think washing machines with agitators washes clothes better than the ones that don't have it.
I Know They Don't Make Washers Like This Anymore, With The Agitator In The Middle, I Rather Have A Washer With That Instead Of The Impeller Types, Like The Ones They're Making Nowadays, I Believe They're TOO Rough On Fabrics Of Clothes, And Stretches THEM Out Of Shape, And NOT TO MENTION, Knot🪢 And Tangle 🪢 THEM Up, But Anyhoo; Agitators REALLY Scrubs The Dirt Out, That's Just My Opinion On These Machines 👍🏾👌🏾✌🏾🤞🏾🫶🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾✊🏾👊🏾💪🏾🙏🏾💯
That's what you call a very aggressive wash lol. I had a whirlpool 1.7 cubic feet portable in my first apartment with a compact dryer. Was the best machines ever and didn't have to wash my regular clothes at a laundromat. It took a while to get all the laundry done but was worth it in the end....
I love it that this machine does every cycle even with the lid open, & you can tell it has a strong motor. I have a traditional top loader, & like if the noise it makes wasn't annoying enough, the only time I can leave the lid open is when it's filling up with water. It also won't do a second rinse, unless I run back to it & reprogram it with the analog buttons before it spins, or let it finish & program it to rinse & spin again. Your machine impressed me more. This Dandy machine is pretty handy! 👍
I really want to buy this particular Danby model. Has anyone out there recently (in 2024) purchased this particular Danby Portable Washing Machine Model DWM17WDB? If so, would you be willing to share the purchase location info? Thank you very much! :)
My Danby Designer is 20 years old and still going strong. I have had to replace the intake valves and the drain hose, but a small price to pay, since the nearest laundromat is a 45 minute drive. I'm taking a break from moving the drain hose to the other hole to fit its permanent place in my bathroom. The dishwasher, in the kitchen, uses a larger quick connect. Jon in rural BC, Canada
Hi. You posted this comment 10 months ago. I am shopping around for a small/med washer now, the simpler the better. I got addicted to the smallish types after using a small, 2 tub portable one for the last 3 weeks now, since my full size one died. Are you happy with your new washer? What brand is it? How much can you wash in a 2.3cf? Thanks! sorry to bother you.
I have the same for nearly 3 years and its a very good and silent machine. I do not have a good water pression in my old appartment so it's slower a little but so far, 20 minutes is an average. Get one if you can, not much negative stuff on it: maye the wheels are not very easy to direct the machine , thats about it.;)
It moves the clothes much quicker and better than those first class commercial Maytags and Speed Queen from what I see. and it is quiet to my surprise.
I have had mine for over four years. It is an excellent washing machine. It washes good, spins wonderfully and its quiet. I feel it does the same, if not better than a regular size machine.
I love your trick with the dish rack! I just bought my washer 3 days ago and wasn't sure how to secure the hose to the sink. I watched this video and just copied what you did with the dish drainer and weighted it down with 2, 5lb dumbbells...that rack isn't going anywhere! It was a great idea..thank you for sharing it.
It's nice when you can actually see how a washing machine works before you buy it. And that looks like it works pretty good.. I wonder if this would be a good fit for a motorhome?
Thank you for making these Danby washer videos, i was fortunate enough to find one off craigslist and after alittle trail and error (and your videos) have me a very solid washing machine! Its a life saver with a 3yr old toddler. Thanks!
Nothings beats doing your own laundry in your own machine in your own home. Laundromats are used by people u dont meet in real life, homeless, mentally deranged, people with who knows all kinds of unknown skin diseases, of course there are other disease free people too
So thanks to your video I managed to get one for around 150 bucks to clean my work clothes. wow it really does a great job! However my only issue is when its fully loaded when the barrel itself moves it squeals as it does it, don't know if there is a fix or not but other than that it works flawlessly. Another thing is the middle agitator did come off (not sure if middle bolt sheared off?) and i think its because i overloaded it, it was a simple fix of just bolting it back in and hasn't come loose since.
@@Candace-1982 I got mine of kijiji. There was actually 2 i saw one in better condition than the one i ended up with but they were asking basically the price of a new unit. i see them pop up quite often, I also noticed on kijiji a newer model of this design for similar price but has a bit more features but some internals (middle agitator rotating etc) so keep checking kijiji there is bound for one to come up.
@@Lufty25 Thank you. Do you mind giving me the dimensions on it? I have a tiny house and I am doing research on trying to find the best size for my space. Thank you!
I went to the Danby website and they said they are no longer available. And I’m having trouble finding one. I like the capacity because it’s at least 11 pounds. Unfortunately, the newer Danby models on their website are smaller capacity and don’t have the traditional agitator that this one has.
"Brilliant Observation My Dear Watson!" You do have a good eye or hands on experience (no-pun...) as i was wondering if the hose hooked up to the hole on the primary faucet base, but,i actually did not know fore sure. Thank-You Doctor Feinstone.
My Danby will load with water but nothing happens after that. If I switch to spin cycle the washer will drain but then I have all the codes flashing and beeping.
I'm buying a washing machine next week but I want this one in particular and can't find it. The agitator is doing a mean washing. I also want a front load more.
but how would you drain it? you're not gonna "rain" on the people below, are you?!? it would seem the other alternative would be to drain into buckets, and traipse through your apartment to empty it/them, probably sloshing water all over your floors!
Brothers in the House 3 Amigos Really bad idea. If you're thinking of connecting to the rainwater drainage system on your balcony don't- it's illegal and environmentally damaging- chances are your rainwater downpipes are separate from the sewage system, meaning all the detergent etc will simply end up in the nearest natural watercourse.
Quite the wash action! I noticed your tub is indexing quite a bit, with a load of this size, adding a little bit more water manually will stop the indexing and save the brake on the drum. I have a washer similar to this with the agipeller design, and the addition of the extra water makes quite a difference in the tub staying put rather than turning during agitation.
Yes you sure could! Theres a soak setting, but you could also just pause the cycle after the washer is filled with water, and resume the cycle when you're ready.
Hi , some of us have chased around trying to find a Danby DWM17WDB like you found and have found it is no longer made and is impossible to find . Just mentioning .
Looks like a great little machine... Just saw your first video of this machine and now the follow up..Certainly better than going to a laundromat.. Enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I've watched your 2 videos on this machine, and they're very good, but have you ever checked online for reviews from people who have had serious problems with this unit??? Also, there are people who had serious problems with the Danby 0.9 cu. ft. portable washing machine which doesn't have that tall old-style Agitator in it. Both these units are available in Canada. I've been weighing the pros and cons of each of these units carefully and I still can't decide to buy either of these units for myself yet because of the bad reviews I've read on these 2 units. Granted in any Appliance Line there can be a number of "LEMONS" created that slip passed quality control, but still, some problems are in fact problems with the basic overall design. In any case, I'm glad that you've got a good unit here for yourself and that you'll enjoy the benefits of your machine for many years to come! By the way... 2 thumbs up on your 2 videos for this machine!
Thanks! This machine has been discontinued for years, and I can't speak for the newer models, as I have no experience with them. Sometimes though, all you hear in reviews are the rare horror stories.
Does the Danby portable machine have wheels or casters on the bottom. If so, does it have two or four casters. Is it easy to move to the sink? Thank you
It has 4 wheels (they aren't casters). It's easy enough to move around on a hard floor, but I ended up getting a stand for it with huge casters, so I could roll it on carpet as needed. Hope this helps!
I find the use of this machine demo to be v therapeutic simple times; when you do more work with your hands and use skills it helps. You’re not a zombie. But I can imagine for busy ppl maybe not too helpful. I’m thinking I need to just have less clothes!
I got one through someone a few months ago and it worked perfectly but now thr agitator doesn't want to work anymore! Any tips or ideas on why that is? I tried to do a fairly light load to see if it was the weight but it doesn't seem to want to work :-(
With mine, I’ve had to remove the lint filter on the top of the agitator, and tighten the agitator screw. It’ll loosen up a bit over time, and occasionally needs to be tightened. If that doesn’t work, I would contact a local professional and see if it’s savable.
Recently i came across wall mount compact front load washing machines, but very expensive....i m also looking for a suitable one to wash bathroom floor mats & mopping cloths........
This washer has a real agitator. Not one of those swishy-washy ones (pulsator). An agitator gets the clothes so much cleaner. I just got a portable washer that said it had an agitator, but it had this little miniature thing on the bottom that was not an agitator. I’m so disappointed.
You can't tighten the bolt inside the agitator down (under the lint filter)? If so, I'm sorry to hear that. Mine is still running, and recently came back from being used by someone else for a bit. Still running great, but the agitator bolt did need to be tightened.
Does anyone know if this machine is being controlled by a DC motor whose direction is being switched continually via a computer chip as the agitator goes through its back and forth motions? Also, what RPM does this cutie spin at?
Any wet dry vac would work fine, or even towels (which could then be washed!). I've never had any issues with leaks (but if it's way over-filled some water can splash over). I only run it when I'm home, and I've never had any issues.
I've watched a lot of. Videos about portable waching machines but none of them will tell you the dimensions. Very sad !! It would be a great help. Was wondering if it could fit in my dishwasher spot??
Hello. I wanted to let you know that your drain hose can be connected to the faucet connector right under the water hose is the drain connector. Remove the plastic piece that makes the hose bend into a hook shape and with a hose clamp connect the drain hose to the connector right under the water fill hose.
Are they available for sale in USA? 🤔 Where did you buy it? Having a hard time finding anyone who sales these. All the machines I've seen don't have the pole agitator in the middle.
You technically could, but that would create extra work, and require the user to pay attention to the wash cycle. I really like fully-automatic machines.
I have this machine that i've had for up to 3 years. but the plastic part that goes on top of of the machine and holds the spring in the back that holds the doors open in the upright position, the little hole where the spring goes on the right side, facing the machine, is broken. now I called to have the repair man to visit to fix it and he showed up yesterday. he told me what was wrong and the part had to be ordered. the shop would call today with the cost of the cost of the part, and labor. but today they called today and told me the part was no longer available. so be carful how you handle it. more and more washers, including danby are no longer making machines with an agitator. have a nice day
Facing my machine my plastic that holds the door and makes it agitate broke off, so I took a long bread tie and hook it on the little hook on the left and bought the tie over the back and wrapped it on the little thingy in the back and it worked. Hopefully it'll help you. Now I have a new situation years later. It sounds like it's agitating but it's not, it'll move to the right but not left. It'll also spin. Hopefully someone out there can give me some ideas 💡💡💡
For about 10 years I was taking my clothes to local laundries because I felt like the front loading machines were not as damaging to my clothes as the ones with agitators. This machine doesn't shred the _heck_ out of your clothes?
themirrorsofmymind You're correct. In Europe we haven't used top load since the seventies. Few people under 40 have ever seen one. Front load is superior in every way- less damage to clothes, better cleaning, less water, less detergent, less energy, faster spin, much more stable.
