1) How to know my model of msxttly ? U2C air or SMT AC01 . On my box it has stickers of both. 2) even if I switvh off my car and lock it, I can see that the adapter has the white light on it, suggesting that the usb port of the car is still powered despite shutting down the engine and locking the car . This would mean that the battery is being drained and the adapter will be working 24*7 reducing life of both ? Any solutions ?
@@ChiragPatel-nk6er The one which is shown in this video is SMT-AC01. The other U2C-AIR - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9JAd5fz3Cww.html Yes, it will drain your car battery. Some cars have settings that allow you to control the power supply to USB ports. Check your car’s manual or infotainment system settings to see if you can adjust this or the only option is to manually unplug the adapter when you leave the car.
Anthony, I have wired carplay. I want a dongle that's capable of converting CP to AA. I understand the carlinkit 4.0 can do this, but its too old. Is there something out there that's faster or better?
Nothing newer from the ones I’ve tested. It seems like brands have focused more on CP > WCP and AA > WAA and not conversion. Likely due to software off the shelf. The only other way is via an ai box and software
I got this, and I want to turn on GPS passthrough, but on the setting page I only have the option for Auto and Mode 1. any idea whats mode 1 means? also on all other settings it just say mode 1, more 2, mode 3!!!! what do they mean? also no explnation in the manual.
I find mode 1 for gps is pass through ON but it varies between adapters. Other modes in different settings are just different ways of the setting/adapter working. So it’s more a case of trying each one until the adapter is more compatible. If it works out of the box you shouldn’t need to touch them.
@@CarPlayLife Thank you for your respond. I have sent an inquiry to them asking about the meaning for those different values as on my other no brand cheap device I manage to shorten the delay and enhance audio quality. I mainly bought this for its GPS passthrough, and it wasn’t functioning on default or mode 1. I guess I will just return it. I really love your channel and it’s the only one that does proper coverage for those devices, no one else even talking about GPS passthrough. Please also cover ali express variants since the same products listed there much cheaper than amazon but under different names.
Thanks for watching. It’s hard to test GPS pass through. I found rotating the phone at the initial start up of maps app and seeing if the map tiles rotate will mean it’s getting compass direction from your phone than from your gps car antenna/wheel
@@CarPlayLife To test GPS passthrough I just drive arround in an underground parking lot. with my wired connection the car will be moving (Using the car IRS like system) but phone GPS will stop moving near the gate. With the MSXTTLY 2 in one both defult and mode 1 didnt work. GPS passthrough is really important is some places specially with high rise buildings or tunnels. imagine you need to take 4 th exit and you just need to count them, you miss one and add 30min or so to your trip. Thanks again for covering this in your channel.
I am sure this is the best it’s gonna get for a little while. There will be many like it, but their differences will be slim. I think this is gen 3 of the hardware and there is a gen 4 but I’ve not had one in yet for review that is gen 4
Just one thing to note. Gold plated connectors are just a gimmick. They do look nice and feel more premium, but they have no effect on the connectivity. The internal hardware of every device terminates with nickel at input and output solder joints. So you generate a signal and pass it through nickel first, it goes... Nickel/Gold/Nickel. Essentially, if there were any signal loss it happened before it left the first device. Anyway, I digress. Great review, great product! Thanks a lot Anthony, I'm gonna grab one
Ok thanks for the insight on the plating. Yes it does look nice and I did somehow expect it to not do that much when reading their sales jargon. Thanks for watching and I hope it works out well for you.
More people hate real time. Can’t appeal to both camps. I used to cut boot time completely but now I fwd by around 5x and still show how long it actually takes in the lower thirds text. Maybe you missed that. 🤷🏻♂️ If you mean elsewhere. That’s my style. To leave that all in you would be watching 2x more video. Sadly these days no one has time for that. 🤦🏻♂️😔
I am still using the sunweyer dongle you previously reviewed/recommended and it's working great so far. It seems to connect just as fast. If this one is faster, it's not by much. Did you change your mic for this and the last video? It doesn't sound very good and is very quiet... had to crank up my volume to hear you and the quality wasn't as good as previous videos (listen to this video and then your Binize review -- night and day difference)
They are pretty much the same. Slight better WiFi spec on this one but once in, the experience is much the same. As for the audio, I had big issues in my last two videos. Where I had to use iPhone audio instead of external mic on both unboxing and demo sections. I didn’t have time to re shoot them so just had to use what I got. Next time it will improve…as long as I remember to turn them on 😂 thanks for the concern ☺️
Multiuser support is not done that well tbh. Best I’ve seen that’s recent is this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fEJrta92RVw.htmlsi=XEOM0d0QfzN7WB22
Another great review. Thanks a lot! Do you think MSXTTLY will bring out a "CarPlay (and Android Auto) only version" of this adapter for people who only need either of it? And even more important: Do you think a "CarPlay only version" could decrease the already fast boot time and the already good lagging time even more?
Thanks ☺️ I know they do an Android auto only version on this Amazon page. Not sure on CarPlay though. They might do it as the hardware is around for single platform use.
Hi ordered this based on your review! All good however one minor issue - I can’t seem to get the car to boot straight into the carplay screen. I have to select carplay from my cars home screen dashboard. It boots, audio is playing via it automatically etc. It just dosent load into that screen wears my car2airplay one does? Did this happen for you? Any idea what could cause it? I have updated the stick, forgotten this and all other connections, restarted car and re-bluetoothed but same issue. It’s minor but it’s very annoying!
I think that’s more a compatibility thing with your system. But you could go into the IP config menu and try and add some startup delay so you system has time to setup before handing over to the adapter. Worth a try 🤷🏻♂️
I was just about to order one but it says on Amazon it won’t work with Škoda Karoq (which I’ve only just bought). Do you know from your experience if software updates on these devices brings more car compatibility or is it usually a hardware lock that stops them working?
Usually that’s all the updates seem to address, compatibility with car models and car systems. If it doesn’t work out the box then you have a decision of sending back or keeping it and waiting/hoping for a fix
Does this do wireless AA on an OEM car play unit like the carlinkit 4.0 or is it more similar to the 5.0 where it requires native wired support for each protocol? I can't find clarification anywhere
These newer ones work in the same was as the CarlinKit 5.0. So native wired to wireless, no crossover. I’ve not seen many new adapters allow crossover since the 4.0 and Ottocast U2-x pro
It only works with a CarPlay or Android auto usb port. So wherever that is, is where it goes :) it should work inside gloveboxes and closed Center compartments no problem.
If I have connected my wife’s iPhone and my own iPhone, and mine is connected ad last one. Does it search the next time only for my iPhone, or after a view seconds also searching for my wife’s iPhone?

1. Sorry I don't know that one. 2. Does it remain powered after 1 min from locking the car. is so try 5 mins and if it is still lit and functional, then your USB port is powered indefinitely. I don't know how to stop this from not being powered all the time. Maybe a fuse in the car or a settings option in the system menu? You could try a USB switch cable with a hardware button on the cable to turn it off but I don't know of a cable and if it will still work for CP or AA
@@CarPlayLife thanks a lot but I did check after sometime and saw that their was no light blinking and wen I touched it, the device wasn't hot suggesting it does switch off after a min or 5. Thanks any ways
Did you hear that the AAwireless dongle decided to add CarPlay to their adapter? I decided to buy it and try it and saw that it did have support to use CarPlay, but could not get it to work for the life of me I was hoping you can check that out and see what you think or at least get it to work! I see no videos about it.
I reached out to AAWireless and anyways fail to get hold of one to test. I’ve heard this also. Sounds like a firmware update is needed for this functionality to work. It mate work over an Android OS layer, meaning it may not be so great, but if you only have AA and need CP this may be a good option.
Great video. Have you experienced lag while navigating on Google Maps or Waze? Have you also experienced sudden crashes or disconnections of CarPlay? Thanks.
Thanks for watching ☺️ I still use this one today. I’ve not yet experienced any lag in maps apps, no crashes or disconnections. The only thing I have had is it failing to fire up on my system at rare times. A replug fixes this issue when it rarely happens. Also it could be a timing thing with my golf system. Usually fixed by adding some delay in its config menu. Hope this helps.
CarPlay wired or wireless needs ios9 or later and iPhone 5 or later. Older/Slower iPhones will impact the experience, which might be why they say iPhone 12+ on Amazon or they are just covering their bases with a medium tier phone that’s not capable, speed wise. Hope this helps.
Sorry, I can’t say without testing it in an Audi myself. As long as it has wired CarPlay or wired and auto it is possible that it could work. Buy from Amazon for easy returns should it not work?
your links and discount codes don't work (it's £20 off @ Amazon UK anyway), what/how did you deal with the update, you glossed over that. Who did you speak to? Is the update easy? Are there instructions in the box?
Prices are at the time of recording. Same with codes or offers. Updates are applied via the IP config menu. Once connected to CarPlay go to Safari and enter the IP address 192.169.1.101 this will show the config menu on your phone. Scroll to the bottom to update the adapter.
GPS pass is really hard to test accurately. I’ve yet to find a reliable way to tell if the features is using the car or not. With newer adapters showing the feature but not actually supporting it by hardware. It’s much harder to know if the feature is legitimate or not with every new adapter that comes with the feature available. I had to ask its maker each time to check now. Historically I also have to think we’re the previous ones not supported too? I’ve been using the MSXTTLY for a while (gps pass also unconfirmed). I tend to go with the fastest to boot followed by features such as 60fps or a means to improve the video delay and also gps pass if it supports it.
thanks for the great review. how fast/seamleass does your phone connect when you get in and start your car? do you have to do anything manullay each time to connect?
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻☺️ You only have to pair to the adapter once. After that it’s seamless in its connection. Speed will vary on the car and system being used with it. My golf for example will power the usb port when I unlock the car which powers up the adapter. So once I get in and belt up the car is either already firing up CarPlay or only a few seconds away from it appearing. To me, that’s acceptable.
I bought one and i couldnt get any sort of connection. Do i have to already have android auto installed in my vehicle to make this work? For reference i drive. 2016 charger which doesnt have android auto which is why i bought this
Bought this one a couple weeks ago, and its a great product ...when it works! Somehow this thing doesn't want to always connect. Sometimes it shows I must unlock my phone, sometimes just that connection cant be established. Using Samsung S24, got the latest updates and everything. Any idea how to fix it? Already thinking about sending it back cause its very frustrating. What I've found is that unpairing from BT and disconnecting WIFI and the device and car can get it to start, but im just randomly juggling all with reconnecting each thing and its annoying
That’s not great. What is the car brand, model and year? It’s likely a compatibility issue with the car. You could try adding startup delay to allow the adapter to connect after a period once your car is good and ready.
@@CarPlayLifeI have a VW 2018, what Ive found works the best is turn the ignition without turning on the engine, then the success rate of the dongle to connect is like 90%, but it takes on average 40 seconds to start usually. If I start the engine right away it fails to connect quite often. Not sure if thats even related or maybe its just situational. How do I enable the delayed start?
Sorry to hear this and thanks for sharing. You could try connecting to its WiFi and access its ip config menu and playing with setting a start delay or display modes?
@@CarPlayLife In what way? I have a 2023 and 2024 U2C-AIR and prefer the 2023 as the 2024 version sometimes boots up with a blank screen on my car. Both firmwares are upto date.
I’d say this MXSTTLY if you’re mostly using it for CarPlay. And Sunweyer if you are mostly using it for Android auto. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7gfQZe_tobs.htmlsi=9rQIiO_3jc0nExKC
Hello, I wrote it in a translator, so it may not be smooth. I'm looking for a model that can switch quickly without touching the phone if the driver changes. In this case, can you recommend a good model to match?
Sadly there isn’t an adapter that will switch between models without touching the phone. The only one that came close is this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fEJrta92RVw.htmlsi=GMGbSXH0kE8Fr3-m
Do you have a video that explains what multi-user support is, and if it does not have this feature, does it mean that it will only work with one phone. Or if there are two, phones I. The car at once, can you still disable the Bluetooth on one phone and then connect the other phone?. Does multi user support basically mean that if two phones are within the dongle’s Bluetooth reach that the system will recognize the presence of both phones and give the user a choice as to which one to connect to?
I don’t have a video on this but I do want to cover this in the future. Multi-user just means the adapter features a menu or a physical way to allow you to switch to a different device easily without forcing the phone connections on/off. Some adapters display a menu of previous connected devices and without auto connection turned on, this allows you to choose which phone to connect to at startup. All adapters allow multiple connections to it, but to switch them, most adapters don’t show a connection menu of sorts to easily choose which connects to it. Some have a physical disconnect button, some even has a button that actually switches between two paired devices. For me that latter method seems the most robust way of doing it.
Update: i have been going around in circles looking at various reviews, a lot no longer available etc! Amazon have a £25 voucher on this plus using your code meant just paid £26 for this unit! No brainer so thank you again and will watch out for developments. 🐈👍
I bought one of these based on your review. Unfortunately it doesn’t work very well. I reckon 50% of the time it doesn’t connect to my car at all. Contacted support who suggested changing some settings but the the same problem continues. Looks likes it’s going back. Also doesn’t support multiple people using the same car. Shame, when it does connect it’s brilliant but I’m fed up of having to pull it out and find a lead to use instead.
Sorry to hear this. Out of interest and to help anyone else considering this adapter, what car brand make, model and year are you trying this adapter with?
Good morning Anthony, We are very interested in using a wireless Carplay dongle and I have a question about it and so far I have not been able to find an answer. Let's get a few things straight, we have a Ford Fiesta Connected built in 2019 with an infotainment screen that we also use as a GPS (Google Maps). Now my question, can I simply charge my mobile phone via the second USB port of the Fiesta while using the Carplay, or will there be a conflict? I wrote this post using Google Translate. Thank you very much for your answer.
If you have two usb ports one will be used for CarPlay only so using that with the adapter will be fine and the other can be used for charging your phone. Hope this helps.
@@CarPlayLife Hi Anthony, this was the answer I was waiting for. If I understand you correctly, it should be possible to connect and install the dongle on USB port 1 and if that is OK, I can use USB port 2 to keep my mobile phone powered during long journeys abroad. . I am very grateful for your attention and effort in helping me with my question. Top!
Thanks for watching. The way it would work is it would connect to whoever is in the car. If you’re both in the car then it’s a coin toss who connects first, unless you turn off BT on one of the devices so that forces the other to connect first.
If your car has a GPS antenna a GPS passthrough enabled adapter will use that antenna instead of GPS antenna via the phone. Some in-car nav will also use the wheel direction to more accurately place the direction of travel more accurately. So you can stow phone in pocket/bags away from windscreen and still get a good GPS signal for app navigation. You can still use maps without this. It just uses the phone.
@@CarPlayLife I had no idea that was a thing. Does it have to be supported specifically by the car? I would assume so. Would that help with phone battery drain?
Yes it is only possible if your car infotainment system has navigation and therefore a GPS antenna somewhere. Yes, Using this method will reduce the stress on the phone and can help with battery life.
Great Review... MSXTTLY Wireless Adapter -- Is this the best in the market now for both AA/Carplay ? should I consider ottacast play to video pro than this.. Please provide your feedback on lags in phone calls if any and which is best to you…
@@CarPlayLife Thanks.. Bought MSXTTLY Wireless Adapter .. very smooth... calls only take 1 second delay.. some times changing music.. very nice.. helped me to remove all the wires in my car.. Just want to know if any firmware update required for this ?
You shouldn’t need to update it. Some updates might bring extra functionality but at the risk of working less a smoothly with your own system. Luckily they do have a rollback option but only two and if your current one is too old to be listed there, then you can’t roll back. As the saying goes: If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. :)
@@CarPlayLife Thanks your for you quick reply Am from india , would you recommend msx or any other brand? Primary use is with android and occassionally Apple
Great review! How’s the audio delay when watching RU-vid with CarPlay? The video vs. audio delay. (While parked of course!) I’ve been wanting to get a wireless adapter for a while. I think this will be the one. Thanks!!
Thanks for watching...So I have run some tests... Wired CarPlay has around a +50ms delay when listening to RU-vid on my Golf system. So the audio is 50ms late. Using this adapter and running the same video I get around -200 to -150ms delay, so the video is late by around -200 to -150ms. As background audio that may be ok because you're not watching. But to watch with audio, then it's quite a significant delay to not really enjoy watching back video content from apps such as RU-vid.
Strange question but does AA run through car play (similar to ottocast u2-xpro) or would it open straight in to AA. Reason I ask is, in my car CP runs full screen but AA comes up half screen. So I quite like how the ottocast runs through carplay then brings up AA (to make it full screen) but it is just on the slower side!
This will operate like the CarlinKit 5.0 in that it uses AA connection for wireless AA, and CP connection for wireless CP. I can’t do wired CP wireless AA or wired AA to wireless CP. Hope this helps.
How does something like this compare to wired, assume wired is faster but are things like sound quality different? Getting a new car that has wired but no wireless.
With this particular adapter, it is very close to wired. Of course, you have a delay in the initial connection, and on navigation and music playback etc. that's just how wi-fi works vs Bluetooth or a wire, so there is a compromise there. As for sound quality, for me, there is very little in it, but this could also depend on the system it's connecting to and the age of the phone. In my experience, and I like good-sounding audio, these adapters overall have been pretty acceptable in their sound quality
I see company also offers individual adapters for android and carplay. And this one offers both in one adapter. Individual car play adapter and this 2 in 1 adapter; both are of same price. What should I be getting? Does the individual one has some better performance being single platform; thats why the price is same?
