I'd say it's worth trying, yeah. I don't feel like starting off is too complex, and the overall community's friendly enough to where you can do the higher-end stuff with random folks.

I mostly do end-game raiding and almost exclusively play with random people every day. Unlike many other similar games, playing with others is like 95% exclusively positive experiences, at least on EU/Light servers.

At 5:49 what the hell did I just watch? When that happen, I would throw whatever my rotation is out the door. No wonder that the criterion dungeons are consider the savage version of the regular dungeon.
