I rebuilt shoes as my life’s work. Had to close my shop due to lung cancer. I loved taking a shoe from trash to treasure. I have watched other you tube vids of repair work and cringed. You and I restore shoes, not just fix. I love the weave of that shoe but I have seen lots do what those did. You took care of it the same way I would have. But I never in my wildest dreams got the money you get. What you do is worth it! I am very glad you get what you are worth.

@@MrCguy24 I think other trades are very comparable to Steve and his leather work skills. When you become very competent in your discipline, no matter what it is, you start to become an artist. I have seen this in the building trades with plaster, cement, plumbing and electrical trades etc. Steve Doudaklian is a master tradesman in leather goods, just like electricians and plumbers and carpenters. If you disagree with my comments, please take some time to watch Larry Haun teach you basic carpentry skills. Yes...Cole...it is very comparable in my lifetime of experience...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yh6cMQnWGwA.html

@@MrCguy24 You obviously did not take time to watch the video link I attached. Plumbers, electricians and all of those people are often grass roots ma & pa shops. Millions of trades people in North America are self employed. They are not all in GIANT UNION work forces.

Years ago I used to work in a shoe repair shop. I have seen some sad repair jobs. Now at 56 yrs old. I have some sewing machines and various other leather working tools. I am a disabled Desert Storm Army Veteran. Recently terminated from my job so thinking I will do some side jobs once I get my home one room shop set up. I have to say I watch your videos all the time and have learned a lot. Keep up the amazing work. You sir have skills..Hoorah!

Take a bow, Steve. Those were a MESS. I (for one) would've really enjoyed seeing more of how you worked around the torn heel leather, and the reweaving/repair/re-welting to make a miserable looking mess become looking like new once again. I'm a big fan of that technical how-to aspect of it. Nice craftsmanship.

When my mom was a teenager in the early 40's, she worked in a shoe factory summers between school years. Before that, she worked in a cannery (she jumped when she had to the chance to make the switch). When she starting working in the shoe factory, she already had some skills from helping my grandfather repair her brother's and her father's work boots. When we cleaned out the farm house where she grew up, we found the cast iron shoe form he used as well as the awls, knives, needles, and a bunch of old leathers, spools of threads, etc. Mom just stood there and stared at it all shaking her head, and said, "Oh yeah. I can remember it like yesterday." Ironically, she couldn't afford to buy a pair of the shoes she was making in the factory.

More than ever in this recycle-vs-buy-new time, repairing and restoring what we have is more important than ever, and the skills of those who help us do it should be valued highly. Buy good quality once, and then spend the money during the things life to keep it like new. Over 20+ years, the cost will be probably comparable to buying cheap things and replacing them every couple of years. But the benefit to the planet is obvious to the former approach. This was another great video !
