I hand stitched my 1st full welt yesterday... (awl and needles) my fingers where sore.. the stitching was messy (its just my own pair of slip on shoes for the garden and farm yard).... at one point I cut it apart, to fix the lining and it looked like an exploded banana. Today I got 1/2 of the 2nd shoe welted.. I did much better, I hurt less.. I am pleased to have learned to rip a shoe apart and redo it.. without fear . Thank you Steve !

Here's me... I'm a retired home builder and I will watch every and any craft I myself have never performed. I will continue to watch every episode as it never gets old to see another experienced craftsman display their skills. The one 5hing that you do that blows my mind (and that is most everything you do) is the crazy skill you have with that razor knife! I have held them most everyday for 45 years and cannot so easily master it especially in proximity of easily damaged materials. You're amazing Steve, and I have watched you do about 40 or more 50 videos and I am always ready for more. I should add, being disabled and now retired, I get a great dose of craft skill in every episode! Thanks steve😊👍

Who would watch one of your videos and then not subscribe? You do such great work and teach your viewers so much. Who would not want to see more? This was a nice project. You improved the shoe as always and did it economically. I am sure the customer was happy. Not every repair requires a JR sole. You wouldn't carry an inferior house leather. The customer got what was asked for. Love your videos.

I have ruined more than one pair of shoes, but they were my own. As you said, one has to start somewhere. One of the things I learned the hard way is that when replacing the welt without a last (or at least a shoe tree) inserted, it is possible to change the width of the shoe. I learned to proceed with caution. I have learned so much from you, and still am. Thanks.

If Steve would read this, I would suggest offering some hand made leather goods for the public to buy. As your fan base grows and so does your reputation for quality, people are willing to pay for excellent hand made items. Wallets, belts, keychains, watch bands, and purses are just a few of the items you could offer. Start small and see the response, and then go on from there. You have now become a brand name and people will want those items.

I believe that you come in with the right attitude / values and build from there. I think it takes a lot of life lessons for an average person to wake up and know X job is their passion. But it's not just that, there's also business acumen to attend with. You have to know both sides of the shop, to make it work. Steve is a rare person. Actually I am not going to say specifically rare. There's just millions of businesses and jobs that need a person like Steve and there's not enough people like him to go around. Every facet of society needs people like Steve to raise us to the next level of civility. You can tell with Steve, it's not all about the bottom line, and that's quite refreshing.

The whole experience for someone like me, is that your videos are like just hanging out at the shop... watching how you do what you do... and listening to what's on your mind and sharing a rant or three (ok, some coffee would be good too). The only thing missing are the things which make it all the more real. The smell of the waxes, dyes, leather, glue drying, etc. Nice work done on those poor ol'/abused (by other shops) hoof-covers. You've turned 'em back into good/solidly crafted, sturdy foot gear once again. A guy could slap those puppies on and know he's got some good shoes on his feet, and not be embarrassed by their appearance/condition. Elegant Oxford did a review video (posted today) of a line of shoes out of Spain (made in China). He did a good job of trying to point out the selling points of what you're getting for the price... but, what I couldn't get passed is that the breast of the heel was the only part which touched the floor. Standing in those, the "hinge" created to break down the integrity of their build would just create a line of pressure across your foot as your weight would force the rest of the heel to make contact with the floor. I appreciate an honest review, and the opportunity to place an eye of scrutiny on the product. I'd gladly give up a blind stitched sole in order to gain a flat resting heel. Extra cookies for the Zeus unit.
