*I am still in S&B but I am disabled and it’s hard for me to stand at the stove. On good days I do my prep at the table then cook on the stove. On bad days I would order out before I saw this video. After seeing your video last year I bought three dash mini makers. Now on bad days my 2 girls and I sit at the table each with a mini maker and make our own food. They think it’s great fun to all cook together and I appreciate being able to still have homemade meals.*

i have similar issues. i also have an instant pot and i can sauté in it, so cook a lot, and add stuff for a one pot meal. it allowed me to be able to cook at the sofa and not get up. hugs i love that you got some for your girls to help along. it’s time well spent together and they’re learning something from you while spending valuable time together.

The Dash egg and rice cookers have a more even heat. This mini griddle cycles on and off and in the process draws more electricity on the cycling start ups. But, nice video. You can also use your pan in the rice cooker with water placed in rice cooker and pot set into water. Thanks for sharing. Looks delicious.

Tip, to reduce tender cook time, place chicken a plastic bag and pound with a 16 Oz can of food to flatten for quicker and even cooking. I also cut my tenders in bite size pieces and it only takes 2 minutes on each side. I like flattening the pieces because it helps keep the white meat juicer.

Great idea to use the Dash with a pan, but besides one of these I picked up a Hot Logic Mini, which draws only 45 watts, and will let you put about anything from uncooked chicken to soup in a 6 cup container and cook it in a few hours! Between those two, I'm pretty much set for cooking, although do carry a mini rocket stove and a alcohol stove. -- no explosive gases in my van! (propane...)
@privateprivate8366
@privateprivate8366 4 года назад
B Miller yep, other than the Dash waffle maker I got for cheap, I bought a Hot Logic Mini. ❤️ that thing! I bring healthier lunches to work, save money, and not only cooks my food in my glass container until its piping hot, right on my desk next to me, but as I eat and get to the bottom, my food gets hotter, instead of losing heat. It’s just a good idea to make sure that you loosen clamps on lid tops as, the steam heat will pucker the top a bit. But, it really is TJ best thing since sliced 🍞!

That's what I was going to comment. The tenders can cook right on the griddle without having to wash a pot for it. Plus she can use shake n bake and make breaded tenders using the griddle. A small air fryer would work okay too. She could do so many meals in an air fryer or electric skillet.

The Dash 8 inch let’s you regulate temps I heard. Are you familiar with the slightly larger one? You are using it as their other higher end ones were in Japan. Very cool that you found this out. Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
@travelinggypsie2085
@travelinggypsie2085 3 года назад
I did see the larger one at a garage sale a while back and now I wish I would have purchased it. The only downside I saw was that I believe it uses 650 watts which at the time I thought...nah!...that's too much wattage for what I would use it for.
@theresedignard4267
@theresedignard4267 3 года назад
Good point on the power drain vs. RV life. If I ever buy the larger one, I think I will look into a step regulator. You can set how much power is drawn that way. It is often used on industrial equipment to regulate speed by adjusting current/wattage drawn. I always thought that if I ever return to sailing or go van life that maybe it good regulate a smaller AC, or heater. Though the camping excursions I went on, I just brought one of the reptile heating lights. It was enough to take the bite of the cold off. Bulbs are 50 to 100 W. Ah, love experimenting. There is a technical term for a step-regulator, but the name eludes me.

When you make Mac n cheese, if you use the express Mac or microwave packs they should cook a lot faster for you. The noodles are thinner than regular boxed elbows and boxed Mac n cheeses. They may even precook and dehydrate them so they cook faster, I don’t know 🤷‍♀️. I love your nesting pots. Great find. Thanks for the video.

When Van Camping PERCENT OF TOTAL WATTS USED becomes important between charges... How many Watts was your PORTABLE POWER SUPPLY, or did you plug it into a REGULAR WALL AC OUTLET? What was the TOTAL PERCENT OF WATTAGE USED? Total time cooking was appropriately 10 minutes (mostly without a lid covering the pot).

Hi Ann, I'm glad I got one of these. It has proved itself to me as a valuable addition to my van kitchen. As you know, I'm a big chicken when it comes to using propane in my van so I found it necessary to look for alternative ways to cook. Now I know that while I'm cooking my main course in the rice cooker or in some other way (like on a fire) I can cook the side dishes using this. I'm a very happy camper....lol

@@travelinggypsie2085 i will probably use a lot of solar, but I still wanted another kind of energy for cooking if my battery bank is dead. I have a butane single burner and will have it sitting right by a window which I can open while cooking. It opens from the bottom not the top so it will be ok even if it's raining. I got one of those mini grills on my amazon wish list and may get one this week possibly.

Dash has a small pot for soup, stews, rice, etc. it has a steamer basket to. The temperature is more constant on those. Do you ever slice your chicken into smaller pieces? If so, does it cook faster? Do you know how much Wattage it uses?
@travelinggypsie2085
@travelinggypsie2085 3 года назад
Hi Therese, Thanks for checking out the video and leaving me a comment. I've never cut the chicken smaller but I would think it would cook faster if you did. Also, I believe that it uses 200 Watts when the blue light is actually on (so not consistently). Thanks again for checking out the video.

Items that cycle on and off use up more power than a constant one. I wonder if a step regulator device would level your surge draw? Ahhh, something to investigate, eh?

Also, keep in mind that as a safe alternative to 165 degrees, cooking at 145 for 8 mins. at that temperature is also rated safe. It essentially changes the quicker safety of reaching 165 internally, to reaching and holding at 145 for several minutes... whichever comes first!
