I have been engaged in upholstery for about 31 years, the last 17 in Aviation upholstery. I always use a strip of headliner listing on the backside to ensure additional strength. Also I always never lock my French stitches...I always leave LONG tails at the beginning and end of the runs. This is so I can back tie the threads, in case I have to trim the back sewing allowances extremely close.

Hi Ndav8r, Excellent advise! Sometimes I also back tie my top stiches. Thanks for watching!

You are like the "Upholstery" version of NCIS and you are the Gibbs with rules. Rule # 1, seats can be fixed to look new if you have the equipment and practice. Rule # 2 You can't change rule # 1 if you follow the lessons! Thanks Gibbs.!< I mean thank you sir! lol. Great locking method because it can get bunched up with thread at those areas! Thanks, hope you smiled, have a lucky one! DK, ASE Master Tech Retired.

Thank you for the suggestion, but this is not really used in automotive upholstery applications.
