ANOTHER Wings Of Fire Plot Hole? 

It was really fun to get to cover this one! I hadn't really thought about it before, but honestly I can see this both ways. Let me know your thoughts below! Usually I'll eat in the restaurant unless I'm just super tired, then I'll ask someone to bring me home the food lol

the nightwings seemed awfully shortsighted, basing their desisions on archaic methods of thinking. the nightwings were scared so silly that they LITTERALLY got rid of EVERYTHING potentially useful information, just to prevent another darkstalker incident, they got rid of animus magic, moon powers, and so much more documentation. its sad and seems like something that could have easily been avoided, in short, the nightwings dumbed themselves but by doing so they were already dumb(long ramble, im tired and just woke up)

There are two things that are left out. Until Turtle did it, no other animus even had the idea or knew it was possible to enchant another dragon to be an animus. Even Turtle questioned Darkstalker's words when he said that it was not possible in one of the books. So Stonemover probably didn't know either. Secondly, he was deeply in love with Thorn at the time so there was no way, he would pair up with another NightWing in his mind to have dragonets, besides the dragonets were born so rarely on the NightWing island to the point that every NightWing hated that island with their soul. Even if Stonemover made it better, I feel like a lot of NightWings would still not feel at home there and would hate that place for what it was before.

I heard a theory once that when they came to the island it was a dormant volcano explaining how they survived a while. Eventually one of whiteouts offspring was an animus who activated the volcano permanently which is why it’s never mentioned dormant after they arrive. The reason they did this was to block out the sky so no more nightwings could hatch with powers. The nightwings were terrified of another Darkstalker they would do anything to get away from him. I bet it was enchanted so it couldn’t be dormant again and stonemover actually tried to enchant it but couldn’t because of a previous spell.

You know what the ironic part is? Volcanic soil is extremely fertile Once that pesky volcano goes dormant, the NightWing Island could become more lush & vibrant than the Rainforest

It seems that this is a recurring thing with animus magic, the limit being the imagination. Maybe the NightWings thought such a large scale spell wouldn't be possible. Despite the Summer Palace being magically constructed, it still took many years with constant maintenance of the spell to do it. The reward of a paradise out of enchantment would've been an incredible reward, but the risk was probably too high. Animus magic is limitless - which means infinite possibilities... and infinite dangers. Well, those are my thought at least

Another mild plot hole involving animi are the icewings. This may be a what-if, but they very well could still have animi if you take to account what queen coral said in one of books being, “we only have animus every 3(?) generations” and considering its genetic with icewings, it couldve been carried on as a hidden gene they just never knew because they thought they lost the animus power forever. Hope this makes sense-

I think it's actually sort of addressed in the series. It takes a lot of magic to do something that big, and would take a lot of his soul. Because Stonemover didn't want to lose his soul, he cursed himself to turn to stone as he used his magic. He probably told them there was no way he could do something that big, and that he would just turn to stone before it was finished, leaving them with an island that could still erupt at any minute. They probably decided it was better to get a home that didn't involve probable death instead of thinking that it was POSSIBLE that he could make the island perfect.

its obvious to me dragons in wof dont really know the limitations or lack thereof of animus abilities, and i think all dragons are relatively closed minded in wof due to a lack of education and fear of the unknown. Nightwings completely stripped themselves of a kingdom or any resources because they were afraid of the unknown, which was whether darkstalker would come back or not. While relatively intelligent, dragons in wof are clearly underdevoloped as a society. Which is why i think WoF is actually very well written, of course it has its flaws but its too far to call this a plot hole when there are many means to why it could have ended the way it did

Honestly, (no shame to her) I think Tui just wanted to throw the “the prophecy isn’t real!” card but didn’t know how to do it/hadn’t planned it out first😂

I definitely do feel like Stonemover could’ve made another animus in the NightWing tribe to help them with a new home and do the rest of their dirty work. But I do feel like it would be difficult to convince him to again. Maybe there would have to be another animus to get him to do it. My question is why the Rainforest? Yes I’m aware with the portal thing but we have heard NightWings complaining about the environment in the Rainforest so why would they want to live there? Honestly most likely because it’s the polar opposite of the Volcanic Island, having great quality air, many beautiful plants, plenty of food, etc. And because there other option, The SandWing kingdom, would not be that helpful due to the SandWing Succession and the warm and dry environment. I saw that because Stonemover also made a SandWing kingdom portal lol

so what "I enchant this gen that the island, the rightwing queen currently resides on at the time I cast this spell, never experiences any significant volcanism of any kind, that its flora and fauna grow and flourish as if this island has the most fertile soil on Pyrrhia, and the air around said island is as clean and clear as that found on the most idealic peaks of the sky kingdom" am I missing anything?

"Mom I'm on TV!" moment. Thank you for paying attention to my little statement. I think this is really a plot hole, since the nightwings really didn't want to risk even going out into the Rainforest once again (when Fierceteeth and Strongwings briefly visited the Rainforest, Morrowseer yelled at them to keep things secret, even in the Rainforest). I mean, why do nightwings take such huge risks, considering that their population is very small and weakened? And the nightwings obviously didn't care about Stonemover because, for some reason, they forced him to make an entire tunnel in Sandwing Kingdom, although this made no sense, because they wouldn't need it in communication with Blister. Battlewinner could have Stonemover seal all of his powers into a scroll for her and Morrowseer to use.

a few theory's for this plot hole is because of their current predicament, Morrowseer & Battlewinner thought that despite Stonemover would be vulnerable enough to use too much animus magic that he would go insane and for Stonemover having more dragonets part is most probably because he was being kept secret at the time & only certain NightWings knew about him and that even if Stonemover had a mate, the egg wouldn't have survived. one of those 2, but the most logical explanation is that Morrowseer and Battlewinner were too prideful to even think the plan through as time passed. but those are just my theory's, what do you think?

Small correction:Morrowseer says that the island was covered in trees when they arrived, and it was the more recent eruption that destroyed most of it.

Mastermind: Our volcano is erupting and it's gonna wipe out our entire tribe. What should we do? Morrowseer: OK, I have this decade long plan that is super complicated and relies a lot on chance, and about a dozen things could go wrong, but if we pull it off we can have the Rainforest Kingdom all to ourselves! Mastermind: OK. Counterpoint -- couldn't we just ask the Rainwings if we could move in next to them? They seem like pretty chill guys, I'm sure they wouldn't mind. Morrowseer: Ō_Ō Mastermind: ...No? Morrowseer: Ò_Ó

As always, this video was great! I think that I have a different reason for the NightWings not making another paradise for themselves: As you said, it's probably something related to a pride. The NightWings knew the RainWings were more powerful than them so they probably planned the attack on the rainforest not just to take it over but to wipe out the RainWings at the same time. Maybe Stonemover didn't want to use his magic even with his protection spell. It's also possible that the NightWings no longer wanted a secret home. Maybe they wanted to live on the mainland. It might be all of these reasons combined that he NightWings tried to take over the rainforest instead of using animus magic. Thank you for reading!

The second biggest pothole is Darkstalker size! lol why..

The book says stonemover ran away, maybe this is why. It would have been such a large enchantment and he may have already been afraid of his power at this point. He could have had one last enchantment, which was to leave without anyone noticing which is why none of the Nightwings talk about him in book 4.

The nightwings are like kamodo dragons, they bite there pray and then wait for them to die. They hunt albatroses, they talked about in the 5th book.

Another plot hole I spotted, is what about the scene in escaping peril where Turtle tried to offer her a raw fish? I mean, it says in previous book countless time that it seems the fire is inside of her, so why wouldn’t it get burned, at least in her mouth? Because otherwise her body would just disintegrate because of the constant above boiling temperature? Also comes the fact that in the same book, Peril boils a fish alive in a pond by touching the water, but while swimming in the river, the fish touch her scales? Like, what?

Ok so i think theres a few different reasons as to why they didn't just fix their home using stone mover. One they might not have thought of the idea, two nightwings are extremely prideful and probably assumed this olan would surely work and no one dared to question it or make other suggestions, and three of course it can also come down to the plot of the books

Remember that the Nightwings didn't know other animus dragons could be made through enchantments so that was something they never considered. Second is that they didn't know the limits of animus magic, the last thing they needed was another Darkstalker (Which they probably would be afraid of making so keeping Stonemover's magic limited makes sense). Finally, they had no idea Stonemover would run away so they probably planned to have him have dragonets at some point but he ditched them before that could happen. Not a plot hole, just short sightedness.

I never really liked the whole ‘take over the rainforest’ plot line. I hated how many holes there were. It’s not just this one, there’s also what I call the ‘glass incident’. Here’s the predicament; the Nightwings couldn’t find a way to make armour that would keep them safe from venom while still being able to see. So, why didn’t they just use glass? Glass exists on Pyrrhia, as Jerboa smashes a glass candle holder in book 14, and the nightwings can easily make glass. In book 4, the volcano island is described as having a black sand beach, and even if, for whatever reason, that sand can’t be used to make glass, they have very easy access to the desert! The graphic novel shows that they have glass, though the novels aren’t the best source of information, and I haven’t read book 4 in a while, so I don’t know if it’s explicitly mentioned that the nightwings have glass, but the only reason that they couldn’t make it is that they don’t know how, but I doubt that that’s the case. And yes, glass is fragile and not useful for combat, but with the threat of the volcano erupting, and not having many other options, I’m sure that the nightwings would take the risk. I always felt like the nightwings not yet initiating their attack on the rainwings was a weakly supported point in arc 1’s plot. Tl:dr, the nightwings could have used glass to make the eyepiece of their Rainwing venom protective armour.

Animus magic can't bring back the dead, yet Queen Diamond killed Foeslayer over and over, bringing her back again around 40 times ( I think ). I haven't read WoF in a few years, so I could be misremembering. (Srry if I am lol ) I just wanted to see if this was a plot hole or if this is just something I misunderstood.

So the Nightwings had Stonemover, who was an animus because he was descended from Whiteout, and he was born about 2,000 years after Whiteout died approximately. So did the Nightwings not have a single animus in all those 2,000 years?!

What if the NightWings studied RainWing culture and discovered Grandeur’s problem with finding a proper successor instead of experimenting with RainWing venom?

From my understanding they made it to the volcano before it erupted, and after it erupted it's when the living conditions began to grow worse smh

Not gonna lie, i don't remember most of Starflight's book so it never occurred to me that there was a possible plot hole in there.

Tui is good at writing characters, and in general the worldbuilding is pretty good, but Magic is just one of those things that Doesnt make sense in WoF if you think about it for more than 10 Seconds…

I'm confused as to why the NightWings haven't taken over the entire world.

One plot hole that Im confused about is Darkstalker, Once he got his magic back, why didn't he just reverse time and go back and fix things that he did wrong?

I had a really good plot hole but them I forgot it 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

On top of other people pointing out that they probably couldn't get dragonets out of Stonemover due to lack of a healthy environment, and them probably having no idea he could enchant a new Animus dragon, think about how the Nightwings plan things. They made up a whole prophecy for a 20 YEAR war JUST to invade a rainforest. They easily let the war go on 5/10+ more years just so it'd make sense. They were studying the Rainwings for at least a year, thinking about an extra 2 years of experiments and study, before invading. And in that time hadn't figured out the venom cure, how their queens worked, what their society was truly like, etc. They WANTED slow and steady plans. Stonemover enchanting the island to stop erupting, enchant more prey, enchant a better castle, and any other "enchant so their lives would be better" plan probably was brought up and shot down by the council, because they wanted to make sure it worked. This isn't even considering all the testing Stonemover might have been put through (imagine what Whirlpool put Anemone through, how much wasted Animus magic they did, I can easily imagine the Nightwings doing similar things to Stonemover) or what they thought his soul could take or not. You saw how scared of Darkstalker the Icewings and Nightwings were in the second arc/in book 5 when sunny was following the Nightwings. Even rational dragons could've been afraid of what Stonemover could become, and tried rationing his magic as much as possible

Hold up a sec… I gthought they didn’t move to the volcanic island until battlewinner was deadly injured by the icewing attack.

Yet another Amazing video! 🤍 I have a question for everyone! How would you all want the wings of fire tv show to handle situations like these in the adaptation? A: Coming up with another perhaps better reason that this, and counting the tv show as a different cannon? but preserving the overall story? This would almost be handled as a "What if?" scenario... or B: Keeping the original story's justification, but carefully Expounding on the original fear of animus magic, and simply highlighting the ignorance and superstition or mythology that surrounds it, to show that, while they were experimenting, even if the consequences were not real (losing your soul) and their hacks for trying to circumnavigate it were only unnecessary self inflicted wounds so to speak, such as Darkstalkers Scroll, or Stonemovers turning his scales to stone instead of his soul... The real reason being, that power corrupts (depending on each dragons use of it and character traits as in the books) Which is how it seems from the books, and just handling it well, so that each dragon's decisions at the time, based on what they knew about it, seemed the right action, even if ultimately wrong? or C: Should the consequences of animus magic just be real? And these methods or trying to circumnavigate it were all good efforts? or D: Something other way? (Describe in a comment) Thanks!

They were afraid and prideful they knew that albatros went mad when he made a castile now think bigger and more destructive a volcano and island. He would have gone mad and the stories of dark stalker were getting worst every generation so why risk it were there are a bunch of lazy rainwings in a paradise already and the plan would get them allies plus location. The other tribes would bow to the sandwings and there allies for winning the world war and fear the night wings.

Introducing unrestrained/undefined animus magic was the worst thing Tui Sutherland has done with her stories. The massive plot holes it creates far out ways the lore and world building.
