I just want to thank you for this channel. Watching Jimmy's behavior and listening to your advice has helped so much. I can not express how important it is to be firm, consistent, and PATIENT with your Shiba. This saved me from pushing too hard too fast. Go at your puppy's speed. Do not try to force too much too soon!!

I agree with you, many people showing diferent reactions will confuse your dog. All members must react in a way the they know they are not doing the right thing. Loved so much watching Jimmy as a puppy. Great information also about leash and how to find a new puppy, the safe way. Thumbs up.

MY SHIBA IS NAMED JIRO, HE'S 17 YEARS OLD RIGHT NOW AND HE'S SUFFERING FROM ARTHRITIS! PAINFUL FOR HIM BUT HE STILL HAS HIS FACULTIES! JIRO WASN'T SO MUCH AS DIFFICULT AS TO ME LEARNING TO UNDERSTAND THE DOG. WE THINK DOGS SHOULD COME THE WAY WE WANT THEM, DO AS WE TELL THEM, MAKE US LAUGH AND LEARN TO PROTECT US, SHIBA'S KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND TO THEM YOUR TRYING TO MAKE THEM DO SOEMTHING THAT THEY AREN'T BREED TO DO! HAVING A SHIBA IS WONDERFUL IF YOU CAN JUST LET GO OF BELIEVING THAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE WAY YOU WANT HIM TO BE! THEY ARE NOT EASILY CONTROLLED AND WILL PROTECT THEMSELVES IF YOU BEAT THEM! YOU MUST LOVE THEM FOR THE DOG THAT THEY ARE AND NOT THE DOG YOU WANT THEM TO BE! FAST AND COURAGOUS! NO ONE CAN COME WITHIN A FOOT OF MY HOME AND MY SHIBA WILL START GROWLING OR BARKING. YOU CAN'T SNEAK INTO MY BACKYARD YOU CAN'T COME SILENTLY TO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE, JIRO THE JAPANESE SHIBA WILL LET ME KNOW SOMEONE IS OUTSIDE. WASHING HIM IS A FIGHT SO YOU HAVE TO START THAT AS SOON AS YOU GET HIM IN THE HOUSE, ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK GIVE HIM A LITTLE BATH SO THAT HE WILL GROW INTO IT AND THAT GOES WITH GROOMING TOO! OH HE'S GONNA FIGHT WITH YOU THE WHOLE WAY BECAUSE HE THINKS YOUR HURTING HIM BUT EVENTUALLY HE WILL GIVE INTO IT! THEY AREN'T PEOPLE, YOU HAVE A DOG ON YOUR HANDS, AND HE WILL BE LOYAL YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW NOT TO FORCE HIM INTO WHAT YOU WANT AND ACCEPT HIM FOR WHAT HE IS, A DOG WHO KNOWS HIS IDENTITY!

As I've already said, your videos are excellents. Unfortunatly I hadn't the opportunity to watch that kind of informative videos 2 years ago. The chewing issue was something with my dog, it's like shiba puppies are more linked with piranhas than they are with dogs. Keep going. Greetings from France.

hello! I have some questions for you. but before I ask you, I tell you about my situation. we have a Pomeranian for 1 year now. I really think we trained him well. the only thing is he is very careful when other dogs approaches him. when a dog is running towards him he is gets really afraid. he is very obedient and knows the rules (not entering kitchen, listening to commands and some tricks, giving signals when he needs to go outside). we really want to add a second dog to our family and I'm really interested in the Shiba Inu bred. I'm aware of the time and training I need to bring up with this breed, but I'm prepared for it. now to my questions: 1) can the Shiba Inu can get along with other dogs? in my case with a Pomeranian? 2) what is the best you can do when your Shiba is stubborn? what ways are there to convince your dog to listen to you? e.g. when you're going for a walk and he stops. what can I do without forcing/getting loud with it? 3) if the Shiba Inu does something wrong. like eating something on the floor. or destroying carpets etc. how do you scold him or tell him he did something wrong? I'm aware of the "shine pride" and that you should be very careful otherwise he loses your trust.

Hi Wazzaby, thanks for the comment. I am sharing my personal thought for some of your questions. My dog Jimmy happened to get along really well with a Pomsky dog and I have a video about them going on a boat ride - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlO8cWQBPCQ.html Shiba Inu is stubborn like you said and the best way to train a stubborn dog is to be very consistent and earn his respect. All those takes time and patient. Check out this video talks about training a shiba Inu - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C-lYRXSosXY.html In terms of undesirable behavior. It is important to caught it when it happened and you can either loudly tell him NO or give him a "timeout" if he does something bad. But the key is to catch right when it happened so your dog knows why he is being punished. For not wanting to walk, this happened to my dog Jimmy as well. Normally I will try to either go across the street or just wait for him until he wants to walk. Most of the time it ended up more like Jimmy walks me not the other ways around. It is probably not the best way but that is what happened and what I am doing for walks. Check out this playlist talks about Shiba Inu breed and it should give you plenty of information you need - ru-vid.com/group/PLYagEnH2NyM9PmuO22MdVWW24wXOSjrud Good luck👍

Can you explain the use of the playpen? We are going to have a puppy soon. We’ve bought a playpen. And want to not overwhelm her with the whole living room. Do you let Jimmy out of the playpen when he was little and do you find it difficult to keep him in the playpen and lock the door? Is he not trying to escape all the time? Or did you train him well and make the playpen like his “happy place”. I’m afraid that once mine is out the playpen she always wants to get out.

Hey I recommend you check out this video starting at 4:40 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bIGl7F_sRBA.html You are correct that you want to make sure your dog sees crate as his home, crate is a not a cage. Crate is suppose to be somewhere he feels safe and it is the place for him to rest. For puppies, you will need to take him for walks for likely 4-5 times a day to train him to do business outside. You also want to incorporate short in house play and training after those walks. As long as you exercise and stimulate your puppies adequately he should be find be left in the crate without wanting to get out too much. Good luck and enjoy!

Hi would you recomand a Shiba for apartment, does he shedding a lot or does it stinks, my friend have a shih tzu he take about her, and he bathe her regularly, but if she lay down beside me i can smell that stinch
@SuperShiba
@SuperShiba 3 года назад
Hi Oskar, as long as you exercise a Shiba Inu diligently he can adjust well in an apartment setting. Shiba inu sheds and when it sheds it sheds a lot so you will need a good vacuum(for your space) and a brush for your dog. In my experience Shiba inu is a pretty clean breed and it does not stink, typically he grooms himself regularly and needs infrequent shower(once every 3 months). Hope this helps. Good luck👍

Why do you think our Sheba is always rubbing her sides on rough walls etc. ? Do you think she is doing this because she is cleaning her sides or is she itchy? She is six months old now. Thank you, Kat Parker
@SuperShiba
@SuperShiba 3 года назад
Hey if she is constantly rubbing a specific area on her it could indicate underlying health issues. It is getting warm now so could be allergies. Please consult with your vet for a diagnose in order to get the right treatment.

which do you think is better for a first time owner like me, a male shiba or a female shiba
@SuperShiba
@SuperShiba 4 года назад
Hi Lakron, welcome to the channel and thanks for the comment👍 Male or female is totally up to your personal preference and they are equally good. For the cost and easy to care perspective you might want a male Shiba Inu. Female dog is typically more expensive and will cost more for nueter, and also need to deal with their heat(period).

Do you have tips on what to do when a shiba inu refuses to walk? He will plop down and not move. I try to wait a couple of minutes, but after some time he still doesn't move.
@SuperShiba
@SuperShiba 3 года назад
That's a tough one and Jimmy sometimes does the same thing. If he stops in the middle of a walk I will walk him across the road, that normally helps. Another thing I do is pick up a leaf, tree branches and pretend them to be super fun. Normally Jimmy will get tricked and wants to follow the object and that will keep him going. You can also keep a treat in your pocket to keep him going. I sometimes like you, will just wait it out but it could take a long time before he actually moves. Good luck👍

Hello, I will get my 2 years old Shiba Inu this weekend, he is a well-behaved dog according to owner, my questions are; how many times a day we must feed him ? how many grams? we would like to change his name, is it a good idea? He doesn't like water, we would like to bath our dog a couple times a year,just like what we did with our previous dog, he died 2 weeks ago. How can I introduce my new Shiba with water or put him in bath? Thank you
@SuperShiba
@SuperShiba 4 года назад
Welcome to the channel and thanks for the comment. With food I would just follow dog food package instructions, typically for an adult dog daily portion would be at around 2 cups but varies depends on activity level. With my dog Jimmy we end up doing free feeding(leave food out all day) because he prefers to eat at his own terms like midnight or random times throughout the day. With the bath I would just be gentle and provide your Shiba Inu a lot of praise and encouragement throughout the process, give him treats throughout the bath to let him know taking bath is a fun activity. Good luck 👍

Hi Super Shiba, We are getting a puppy Shiba in mid-November. It's a male puppy, and he was just born last week. We went through this before when we got the first 3-month-old Shiba 13 years ago, and he chewed everything in the first year including the kitchen drawers and the wooden gate. We had to put him in the crate at night and when we were not home. He did that for two years, and he got better. Do you recommend we do the same this time? If so, what kind of dog crate do you recommend? I would greatly appreciate your response.
@SuperShiba
@SuperShiba 3 года назад
Hi Don, thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel. Definitely recommend to start with a controlled environment first like a crate. We used to use a fence instead of a crate and here is a link for the fence we use - amzn.to/2Ge4fah When you are around the new puppy and he starts to bite on things he should not have, try to redirect him on the safe chew toys/bones, if he continues to bite furniture and you are able to caught it on sight, loudly tell him no or give him time out. You likely need to repeat this for many times until he improves. I do have a video that talks about training a Shiba Inu and you can check it out here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C-lYRXSosXY.html Good luck on your new journey and most importantly, enjoy 👍
