I don't bag on air (pun intended), but to answer the question of "is air suspension good for racing?"...racing is a sport, and in any sport, if you wish to TRULY compete, you need to not hamper yourself. You look at what the professionals do. No professional racing team runs air. No major performance car company runs air on their track-ready or hyper cars. These companies like Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, BMW, Porsche, etc etc have access to literally HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars to design these cars. They could have whatever they want. They chose coil-overs. As far as I am concerned, that is case closed. Now can you go racing on air suspension? Absolutely. Just like you can play Basketball while wearing sandals, use a plastic bat to play Baseball, or put on a bike helmet and go play Football. Just don't expect to be competitive.

You can adjust ride height using collar on damper, just like coilovers on my Airlift kit. Before I did that I felt similar, disappointed and not being able to adjust ride height independent of spring rate (bag pressure)

Dakota never gave me the cheap pop for converting him lolol. but air in the winter is tricky. It all depends on where you live and what your roads are like. Although lines are important but your lines should be fully secured during proper installation, not so much a seasonal deal. The main thing to "worry" about in winter is your valves freezing or failing from condensation in lines/tank. So HAVING and actively draining your traps and tank are everything! Not only that but trying to keep any ice chunks/slush from freezing on the surface of the actual bag. This can cause friction to further wear on the bag. When installing your struts/bags you NEED to act like they are 0.5mm thin or less, so during proper installation you must ensure that there is nothing rubbing on the bag. If you're worried about reliability of the management always go with a "plug and play" like the Airlift Performance 3p/h/s. Otherwise you can piece your own stuff together. There are more things you can do in the winter like warming your valves to ensure that they wont freeze but with cold air traveling through warm valves condensation is only natural, and that's when the air brake antifreeze comes into frame. This is just some added notes from a random boi on the interwebs.

I'd like more information on how to measure for air ride parts, how to mount different types of bags on different suspensions, etc. I see cups and some need welding, drilling, cutting, and some just fit right in and I've had no luck finding answers on how exactly folks are sizing/fitting their bags.

My question would be finding the proper clearance for installing a big break kit on my gs300 on air ride. What I should look out for or what I can do to make sure the bags and tires or brake rotors aren’t making contact.

A easier water solution is to use a dessicant dryer just like stock air rides cars like mine. I pull it out every two years and dry the beads and put it back. Factory setup lasted 339 000 miles, and my friend's did 252 000miles before front bags started leaking and thats in humid, cold eastern canada.

if you want to daily your car-- coilovers. if you want to lower a project car-- air suspension
@blkeclipsel2400
@blkeclipsel2400 3 года назад
Coming from someone who has both I feel the complete opposite. Air suspension for daily use on public roads. Coilovers for track or project car. My car on air suspension doesn't require awkward driving or exaggerated turning to clear steep driveways, speed bumps or inclines that comes with daily driving.

I'm rather new to air suspension. I recently bought a 2013 scion tc with an air suspension system. And I would very much appreciate any tips as far as maintenance and proper care for an air suspesnsion system. For instance, I'm not sure if I should replace my air bags, as I said I just got the tC, and I wouldn't want my air bag to pop or anything like that.
@blkeclipsel2400
@blkeclipsel2400 3 года назад
I'm part of a few air suspension forums. I would look into joining those. People will post their issues in those groups and typically it's never anything regarding blown airbags. On the rare occasions that it is - it's usually due to 1. A bad install ( bolts in wheel wells not filed down and rubbing against bags ) 2. when someone buys rims with the vehicles recommended offset but not factoring in that the bags are wider than stock springs and the wheels rub against the bags. I've never once see someone post about their bags popping . For them to blow on their own you'd have to be inflating them more than the manufacturers recommended pressure limit. I would say for maintenance just be sure to keep the bags clean of dirt and elements. If you live where it snows keep the salt off them. When you take your car to the car wash - wash off your bags as well.

@@Bvasquez1503 no problem at all brother. You can find some groups on Facebook. Airlift performance owners is my favorite. A lot of experienced people on there sharing info and troubleshooting tips. While bags popping is very rare that's not to say that other things cant go wrong. Leaks in tank fittings, air lines. But that's typically due to poor install. If you haven't had any leaks by now - then the previous owner either knew what he was doing or he took it to a professional. Some of the most common and inevitable issues are worn pillow balls. That seems to be notorious with airlift performance struts. It won't leave you stranded but you will hear terrible sounds coming from them until replaced. Blown fuses due to a compressor going out or faulty check valve. Because of that I purchased two compressors with a harness in the event one goes out I still have a backup. I also invested in an SMC check valve which are better than the ones that come with the kit. For peace of mind you could also purchase an emergency kit which contains extra lines, fuses, fittings etc. The check valve and emergency kit are both available on bagriders.com. Thankfully I haven't had to use the emergency kit yet. One thing I forgot to mention as far as maintenance aside from washing your bags. You'd want to periodically drain water from your tank. You should have a water trap installed.

Air suspension is not illegal in all states. Lifted trucks are not illegal in almost any state. I don’t know where this information came from Also there are air bags setups that adjust height and can separately adjust rate (stiffness) of the bag. They are basically a bag inside a bag that air up with one lifting the car and the other pulling the car down. So you can adjust the spring rate at any height

is there are difference in ride quality when air out/in?
@blkeclipsel2400
@blkeclipsel2400 3 года назад
It depends on your vehicle and it's weight also your rim and tire size . Luckily airlift has the performance series you can adjust dampning, camber and it has threaded locks just like coilovers. Because of this it will take some tinkering. Regarding pressure typically the more air in the bags the harsher the ride. However if its not enough air it will also be harsher. You have to find a middle ground. When i got my car back from an authorized airlift installer it was smoother than stock but bouncy. it took me about a month of tinkering to get it just the way I personally wanted it.

Airlift systems have multiple presets. I have stock height, Low cruise height, slammed height and extremely high height. You can actually lift the car way higher than stock height - if anything it assists you in putting the car on jacks.

I have a 2014 Corolla that I lowered with coilovers. About 6” lower than stock height. This only lasted a few months until I started to get a lot of noise from the cv axles. So sadly, I returned to stock setup with lowering springs. What options do I have when it comes to the axles? I haven’t seen any videos addressing this issue. For some reason these axles don’t like to be straight. Are there ways to compensate for this or am I looking at airbags as my only option? Keeping the car reliable has been part of my goal as far as mods are concerned.
