Something else I'd like to bring up is that living off grid doesn't mean you have to homestead. You could have a solar powered house with starlink internet and a remote tech job and still be considered "living off-grid". I realize that term means different things to different people, but for me, I consider the minimum requirement as being not connected to a public electrical grid. I like Wren's advice towards the end. As long as you're living the life you want to live, then great! You really don't need to overcomplicate this stuff
We don't take vacations. We just set a day to have a cookout, hang out, and enjoy just being with everyone. Honestly, sometime during that day, you just happen to notice something that should be done asap. Well, just in and get it done and go back to your vacation day. We can justify a vacation day as we need them. When I worked, i was on call 24/7. So taking a vacation was very rare, so just taking a day to just enjoy what you have done and how good it is is a great vacation day. And we don't do the up to date fashion. I mean, the livestock, chicken, ducks, rabbit, and everything else really don't care. LOL.
Thanks for this video. I’m one of the lucky few who managed to inherit my wooded acre with the house I grew up in, in a county that really doesn’t care what we do as long as we have a plan for dealing with it. 😂 I’m slowly but surely renovating the house and retrofitting it to be as off-grid as possible. The toilet has been switched out for a DIY compost toilet, the sewers are now grey water only and I’m planning to divert them to water the kitchen and herb gardens. I have solar panels since I don’t have a choice about being tied to the electric grid and like the idea of supplying my neighbors with some of their electricity. I have plans to retrofit the house for a wood burning stove. I have bees and chickens and just bought a couple of goats for milk and fiber. I am definitely the weirdo in this community! But eventually I’ll have an honor store booth at the front of the property and will hopefully create enough to support myself without the remote office job I currently have. It’s been quite a ride! 😂
Should you just buy land in order to later sell if you're also planning for retirement while living off grid? I'm just trying to figure out how or what to invest in for the future while living lean on the homestead.
