Just watched this and lots of interesting discussion. I have made 9 trips to Siem Reap with my last one in January. I am coming back in September for 2 weeks. I am planning on coming for an extended time of at least 2 months in 2025. I want to try this before I commit to a longer more permanent move. One thing I really liked you discussing safety. Recently I was assaulted in the parking garage of Nieman Marcus at the Northpark shopping mall in Dallas, Texas. Niemans is the most upscale department store in Dallas and Northpark is a premier shopping mall with lots of security patrols and actual policemen working to provide safety. Fortunately I was not injured and the attacker failed in getting my money or car keys. This experience has totally changed me and I will say I have my guard up everywhere now. It has also increased my desire to try living in another country. The feeling of being safe is something I have in the past taken for granted. I am glad to hear you feel as comfortable as you do. I am also a retired USA expat living in Siem Reap, now going on 10 months and would like to add that Cambodia is not one of the countries listed on SSA's website that has an agreement with Cambodia that allows SSA retirement direct deposits. I have my checks deposited directly to my USA bank and withdraw funds, as needed, from the local bank, hassle free. On another note, I do use my Charles Scwabb account for all withdrawals, also hassle free, and SC refunds the bank fees monthly to your account. Banking is very hassle free and very easy to set up.

Also for COPD sufferers, as a COPD sufferer myself, my experience since day one, now 10 months later has proven to be most beneficial and my breathing issues has not been as problematic between the changing seasons both dry and rainy. I am able to get my Symbicort inhalant for 12 USD prescription free here, I have gotten a full comprehensive health check up for 230 USD and breathing issues since moving here has not been too much of a hindrance. As far as the burning season, it varies greatly on where you live in Siem Reap. I have had no problems where I live, you will find that if you live near hotels there are lesser chances of any burning such as my scenario currently is and is quite pleasant.

Thanks for the info. You talked about transferring SSA direct deposit to a Cambodian bank, and said you would not do it. Can you explain why you would not set up SSA direct deposit?
