Why not both? I go by what the award says. The award goes to the most improved player. If that happens to be the contending MVP, then go ahead. These awards should tell you the story of the league that year. If the story is ANT became the GOAT after just being a star in a year then the awards should reflect that. Cuz that is MIP level growth.
