I think that Quantumania is a good movie. The quantum realm is amazing, the design of the quantum creatures are inventive, the post credits are spectacular, villain is great (makes me hype up for Avengers Kang Dynasty), and I think they did a good job representing MODOK. With that said, there are some small issues. 1). There wasn’t any cameos from the three wombats, would’ve liked to see at least Luis of recaping about from the event of the Snap or the event of the movie or something like what he did in the previous movies. 2). I much prefer Cassie actress from Endgame then what we got 3). I think Wasp has a better hairstyle in Ant-Man and The Wasp. I don’t think it deserves a rotten score (In my opinion, Eternals is the only MCU movie that deserves the rotten score).

As much as this movie missed the mark, I’ll admit that the scene with the multiple Ant-Man’s was actually a legit good scene. Not only was it very creative but it was the one scene in the movie that clicked with me and actually had me engaged in what was happening. Plus, I was legitimately rooting for Scott in that moment. I honestly didn't expect Kang to be such a pushover. The whole movie I waited for him to do something, anything that would cement him as THE villain of the coming saga. And yet, everyone walked away just fine, no one got trapped in Star W.. I mean Quantum Realm, and the stakes seem to be exactly where they were when the movie started. After two uninteresting and barely coherent tv shows and two lackluster movies, I'm officially marveled out.

Imo they should left Scott and Hope in Quantum Realm to make their choice to stay and fight Kang more valueble. They had such a good line in this film "I don't have to win, I just need both of us to lose" and there were no consequnces whatsoever. Also another problem for me was too much CGI. Way too much. I mean sometimes you can tell when actors just stood in green room and nothing to interact with.

This movie could have worked in my opinion if it did what the Super Mario movie did and have the villain end up in the hero's home world. I'm actually really glad Doug brought up this point about Kang the Conqueror because I really was beginning to think I was the only one who also saw this problem with him. Even if Jonathan Majors didn’t have all of his current legal woes, I think Marvel really overplayed its hand with the whole multiverse stuff. It worked with Spider-Man because it largely pulled from the nostalgia of the old films. The problem with Kang is having multiple versions of the same villain really waters down their impact on the audience and it really doesn’t make for a really compelling story arc. As Doug said, look at Thanos. He was slowly built up across multiple movies to show his power and how big of a threat he was and it was ultimately building up to something. Thanos’ impact wouldn’t have been nearly as big if we kept getting a different version of him in every single movie. You could even argue that the plot device to bring him back in Endgame was sort of a cop-out. I know all of the die-hard Marvel fans are going to say, ‘but it happened in the comics’ in regards to Kang that's cool whatever. But, not everything that’s in the comics translates well to film all the time. I know everyone has their own thoughts, but I have to agree with Doug he's not a very compelling character, doesn't feel as threatening, and the multiple versions really waters down his impact.
@matthewmuir8884
@matthewmuir8884 7 месяцев назад
It's not even what happened with Kang in the comics; originally, Kang was just one villain and he was just a time-travelling conqueror, not a multiversal conqueror. It was only after his character became too convoluted that Kang at different points in time became their own separate versions of Kang.

One thing I like about this movie was Scott’s character arc. This is the man who is now recognized for fixing the snap he’s finally getting the fame he deserves and everything is going his way and he kinda doesn’t wanna do the superhero thing anymore and wants to retire. Until they go into the quantum realm and find all the residents in trouble, while Casey wants to help them all Scott wants is to get his daughter out of there so she can be save, but Casey keeps telling him that “just because it’s not happening to you doesn’t mean it isn’t happening at all”. Now we’ve come full circle Scott deep down has always been a hero he may have been a petty thief, but it’s revealed he stole from a company who was stealing from their employees so in his mind he was doing the right thing and looking out for the little guy. Now that life is behind him or so he thinks, his daughter has started to become like him a bit weather he wants her to or not now she’s sticking up for the little guy in helping the homeless and the people of the quantum realm and Scott realizes this and knows that there’s always people who are gonna need a hero and with his fire now reignited he stops Kang and returns home safely bringing his arc back around full circle. To me it’s perfect. 👍

I know I’m not the first to say this, but when a Marvel villain looks like Mr. Electric from Sharkboy and Lavagirl, then Marvel definitely needs to change things up, and I don’t know how much of Disney was involved with trying to create cringy memes or wanting this film to look like it was made in Robert Rodriquez’s garage. I'll admit I liked this film. Don't think the movie was *good* but the inventive visuals and family dynamic really won me over. I just loved watching these people who clearly really cared about each other interact with minimal forced drama. It was so damn refreshing. The scene with Bill Murray had me bracing for something awful. He's being too handsy with Janet and it's clear they were a thing and I was just waiting for it to be some big argument. Instead they talked, handled it like adults, and moved on. Literally my favorite scene in the movie.

I liked the movie fine but I would’ve liked it more if after the climax, Scott and Hope remained stuck in the Quantum Realm. That would be an interesting build up to another chapter. In fact, I once heard that was initially planned but Disney ordered a rewrite and reshoots months before the theatrical release date.
@ianr.navahuber2195

I thought they re-wrote the ending, because they realized they would be just repeating how the previous film ended (Scott stuck in the quantum realm). which , when you think about it is kinda worse. even if they treated it differently this time.

I remember being bored and yucked, but most of it, I don't remember enjoying any moment of the movie. The audience I saw with, they all reacted like if they were watching a sitcom with the signs of laughter, shock, and applause. It's almost like if Marvel trained them when to laugh, when to clap, when to be shocked, it didn't deserve any reaction, the movie sucks.

I saw Quantumania on opening night back in February. Two days later, I found out that his book was real and that it was coming out in September. I pre-ordered it immediately and waited seven months for it to come in the mail. And it's actually not bad! Believe it or not, it goes into a lot of heavy real-life situations. Imagine seeing life through Scott's eyes in the real world if you were to take out the comedy surrounding Paul Rudd. Your wife divorces you and you're forbidden to see your daughter. You get arrested multiple times. Everyone around you sees you as a failure. But you stick through it and just when it looks like you're starting to turn your life around.....the snap happens. Now, you not only lose virtually everyone close to you, but you also lose five years of your life as well. And when you think about it, Scott essentially missed Cassie's ENTIRE childhood. He was in jail for the first several years of her life, he had restricted visitations with her when he got out, the snap happened, and then suddenly she's a teenager. TLDR: Any normal person in Scott's shoes would be suffering from serious depression.

I certainly don’t see MODOK as “Marvel-killing”, but it seemed like they couldn’t decide between making him sympathetic and making him the butt of a joke. What we’re left with feels super awkward. Visually I see him as a design problem rather than a CGI problem, it’s hard to make a photorealistic giant face in a high chair not look uncanny. That’s why other versions of MODOK have exaggerated facial features. In any case, I agree, I thought this movie was just fine. I liked it enough.

Let's not forget the other annoying trope they gave Scott's daughter, "She's a genius. Don't ask what she's done to be considered a genius, she just is. Don't question it."
@ianr.navahuber2195
@ianr.navahuber2195 7 месяцев назад
Yeah. It kinda feels like the film kinda wanted to give her an arc of showing "Cassie has the heart in the right place,and has the potential to be a hero, but still does A LOT of reckless stupid stuff and really needs to learn her limits and work around them". Which would have tied well with Scott's quick arc of learning "he can't stop her from getting into trouble, so might as well teach her how to get out of it".

You'd be right on the assumption on them intentionally making M.O.D.O.K a complete joke, this movie's screenwriter said in an interview that M.O.D.O.K is just a big stupid head and "will never give the five fans of M.O.D.O.K a serious treatment as long as he's a part of the MCU.'

What frustrates me the most about this movie is that it has so many characters but only Scott, Cassie, Janet and Kang (more or less) are fleshed out. Even Hope felt like a side character for most of the movie, and her name is in the title. They had one cool idea for how to introduce MODOK but no clue of what to do with him for the rest of the movie. And in the age of Guardians of the Galaxy, you gotta do more with weird alien characters than a generic resistance leader, a generic telepath and "I like holes". Waaaay too much ambition in the hands of people who didn't want to go deeper than a 90's family comedy, to be brutally honest.

Low and behold, it’s already 1 year old!! This is my favorite one out of the three Some of the zippiness is absent but it doesn't skimp on the action and the best reason to see the movie is Jonathan Majors as the villain Kang, he is killing it being the next big threat having a calm demeanor but sounding menacing too Plus given the character’s abilities in the comics he can shape existence and time to his own making The music is much more intense and it's visually stimulating even scenes involving a probability storm almost matching ‘Doctor Strange’ Love Kathryn Newton as older Cassie and it's crazy what they did with the MODOK character tying back to the first film Bill Murray makes a funny cameo too as Krylar They had more of the budget this time around and got creative with the designs of the world and the creatures Sad that Evangeline Lily is in less of this but I’m glad Michelle Pfeiffer has more to do than the previous film This officially starts phase 5 of the MCU with more of the multiverse involved Plus I'm anxious to see what happens later with more properties down the line ‘Quantumania’ is the bigger movie of the three but I think more massive stuff is on the way

If there's one thing I would've changed, is turning Modok into a main villain without Kang. Hell, you can use rejected concept art from his other designs. The look they went with doesn't match with how he died. He was shrunk from the inside, his body would look disgusting if you've seen the concept art. It's obvious that Modok was an afterthought when it came to introducing other villains in the MCU. Also, Bill Murray had a bigger role and would've seen him working with Kang. There was BTS footage of him with Scott, Kang and Cassie so I wonder what his original role was. I always thought he was an older Reed Richards where in the MCU, he lost Susan, Ben and Johnny and the Fantastic Four never happened. However, it's revealed that Nathaniel (Kang) was responsible for his timeline being rewritten and would've been killed off at some point and we would have the new Fantastic Four from a different universe in the new movie. By Secret Wars, the new Fantastic Four would be established in the newly rebooted MCU. Shame that Jonathan Majors turned out to be a complete asshole in real life. And it doesn't help that the movie's ending was reshot mere weeks before release to avoid repeating the ending to Ant-Man and the Wasp. Shame how THAT ending would've left something for us to wonder about for the following years like it did before Endgame.

While I did enjoy this movie, it did have problems that made me reluctant to say it was good. If Janet had just taken an hour to explain her time/experience in The Quantum Realm this whole movie could have been avoided. I actually didn't mind Darren Cross becoming M.O.D.O.K., but his development/redemption felt rushed since he went from a serious threat to a comic relief character to a hero way too quickly. & for a movie called "Ant Man & The Wasp" Hope (as well as Hank) didn't do that much in it.

From what I gathered on Kang the Conqueror, he was exiled by the Council of Kangs for trying to undo their work across the Multiverse, the reason why is because Kang shows the consequences for playing with time and describing them like children, the results being lots of Incursions when universes collide with each other and either one universe survives or both are destroyed, Kang thinks he's preventing the Multiverse from dying with his methods plus when Janet calls him out on killing so many to accomplish his goal he says "I wish that mattered" because there's no scenario he can see where everyone lives it's trying to save the most lives but not everything or everyone can be saved, but it's also revenge on his variants who exiled him plus there are people who think they can do better than others in charge but in the end they're not so different

I don't know how valid her statement is, so I'll watch Quantumania on Disney+ to form my own opinion. The reason I didn't was for fear of wasting my money on some movie most people said was painfully mediocre.

I don't get how people keep clamoring for the MCU to do things differently, and yet when they do, people either complain or don't say anything. Even if the whole MCU formula hasn't been overhauled, it still took plenty of risks in Phase 4 that brought projects into new territories. WandaVision was an homage to sitcoms of decades past, Werewolf by Night was a 1940s-style creature feature (and a title I wish Doug would do for DisneyCember), Shang-Chi was a martial arts movie, Multiverse of Madness was an over-the-top Sam Raimi horror flick, we got the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and even though Eternals may have fallen below expectations it still did things slightly differently. Even though there were problems with these titles, it's still refreshing to see a slight shake up in what get for content
