Overall, it was a fun time at the theatre. Did I get my money's worth? For sure. Not everything has to be "epic", and I think more fans and critics need to understand that.
It was super fun (despite the flaws). I was most intrigued by Janet's story and loved Michelle's performance throughout (and Jonathan's performance specifically in those quiet moments with Michelle). And mostly I just wish this had been released "back to back" with Multiverse Of Madness, because they're both cut from the same whimsical cloth. I can't wait to see more of Victor Timely (he's seems like a fun Victorian style variant that I would very much enjoy). And I really enjoyed Hank coming in clutch with his tech savvy community of ants (it was telegraphed very early on, but it still made me cheer) 🐜
Solid 7.5 out of 10 for me. Firmly in the marvel average. The only thing I thought was actively bad was MODOK. Otherwise, the only hindrance for the movie was that it was a 2 hr 40 min movie crammed into a 2 hr movie suit.
It was a fun ride! It is definitely a set up type movie. With it being the “kickoff” to phase 5, I was prepared going in to walk away with an incomplete feeling and I was ok with that. I felt, as a big fan of the first 2 Ant-Man installments, this one did lack some of the charm and wholesome feeling, but again I went in knowing this one was going to be more serious, for lack of a better word. I agree that MODOK could have been left out and the movie still been fine, but I also didn’t mind him being there. He was jarring visually at times, but I got the feeling that was on purpose and the desired effect. The was only one time that I can recall thinking that cgi was a little rough, and it was a very quick scene of a character running while they were shrunken, other than that I thought the visuals were solid overall. No spoilers, but for me the post credit scenes were worth sitting thru anything I didn’t care for in the actual movie 😆 I had told my son that I wasn’t going to get my hopes to high, so I wasn’t disappointed, but then they gave it to us with the post credit scene!!!!! I squealed like a 12 year fan girl at a boy band concert and deemed it all worth it!
Just watched it yesterday. I left the theater only thinking about Kang and how much I like him. Everything else was meh and then MODOK was just a no for me. Not my favorite but not the worst either. There could be a movie just about Kang alone and his back story and I would happily watch it.
Honestly, one of my favorite scenes in the film is the ending. I love how unsettling Scott gets thinking about whether he just doomed all of humanity as he’s dining with his family. Honestly, I half expected Kang to come out of nowhere and straight up merc him. Plus, seeing Kang straight vaporize people was cold. Also, that post credits scene. 🐊
I also saw this last night. There's beautiful visuals and the story is... fine. I rank it somewhere in middle to low middle of the pack of MCU films. Doesn't help that I've never been a big Kang fan.
This might be a hot take, but I thought MODOK was a perfectly fine addition... until. (SPOILERS) The ending when he suddenly becomes good and sacrificed himself because Cassie told him to? That was probably the worst scene in the movie, it didn't make sense at all. Personally I think he should've lived, stayed the evil goofball that he is and did his own thing somewhere else (maybe taking over AIM?)
I saw it Thursday night! I went for Johnathan Majors and boy does he deliver! As for the movie as a whole I agree that there are parts that are disjointed and doesn’t really come together for me.Having said that it was enjoyable for what it is. I mean it’s an Ant-man film…. I do think they undercut the character of Kang which has me questioning what’s to come. I am definitely in the middle of the road with this. Can’t wait for your spoiler review!
I give it a solid 8/10. My only two gripes are M.O.D.O.K. (though a different RU-vid video explaining the comic character warmed me up to him a bit) and part of me wished that the Scott Lang sacrifice that was teased toward the end actually happened. Though, I understand Marvel not wanting to open Part 1 of the story with a devastating loss riight out. Phases 3 and 4 had enough tears shed. 😎😎 Also, seeing it in Imax 3D, I had no issues with the cgi at all. It just had that sci-fi alien creature feature vibe at times and I was cool with it. Hope did seem sidelined a bit... okay... a lot in this movie, but I rationaled her character not being wasted by remembering that she's Family. LOL!!!
Just back from the theatre as well. I think from hearing some of the reviews I had lowered my expectations. So I did think it was better than what I’d expected. The main thing I didn’t like was MODOK. I just think he wasn’t that good. I get that hi design is literally a head with little arms and legs in a chair. But I think it could of been better. Also just the way he was portrayed in the movie and why he went against Kang But overall I did like this movie
This was a solid movie! Marvel masterpiece, no. _But out 20+ Marvel movies how many are?_ 2, 3? Where past Marvel movies felt like their own "storybook" with links to others, *THIS movie felt like Chapter 1 of 1 incredible book.* It's fitting the underlying theme of this movie was Scott Lang's book narration. And Jonathan Majors was unreal! I feel there will be references to this movie in the future as more movies come out.
I thoughts were too harsh for it. Kang was phenomenal. MODOK was not as bad as they made him out to be & u no hes a giant head theres only so much u can really do.
I'm really surprised by rough criticism this film is getting.... I really liked it, much better than any marvel film in 2022. The humor was much better balanced and I loved the world building. It had vibes of strange world, gaurdians, valerian, star wars, all mixed with antman.
I was whelmed. I'd give it about a 6.5 or 6 that is HARD carried by Jonathan Majors and Michelle Pfeiffer. Its my first Antman movie and I only watched bc of Kang so if you've seen it you can prob guess why I rated it how I did lol. I know a lot of people are comparing this to the disappointment they felt with Multiverse of Madness but I still liked MoM. I just wanted to see Wanda fck ish up and she did that, whereas here I feel like they shortchanged me on what I wanted to see.
I have not seen the movie yet, but from what I hear about flaws, I would blame a lot of them on the director. He keeps making mediocre movie after mediocre movie and why Marvel keeps hiring him I do not know.
Just like Multiverse of Madness, it didn’t deliver on its promises.. but MoM was still awesome. I honestly just found this movie to be pathetic. It’s full parody level.
Saw Quantumania yesterday. A pretty meh and forgettable film in my opinion. Marvel has lost its magic touch. Phase 4 was very hit and miss and this trend seems to be continuing with Phase 5. Quantumania was definitely better than Love and Thunder... Huge plot holes and logic gaps in Quantumania though. Kang's origin regardlng ending up in the Quantum realm is the big one... Like... Yeah...
My review: They somehow made a movie that's even worse and more uninteresting than the second Ant-Man movie. First of all, the first act of this movie is the worst first act of any MCU movie, horrible. They do this stupidest trope of one character hiding something from the others and not telling them until the middle of the movie and their explanation for it is "I wanted to protect you" so cliche, bad written and this movie has arguably the worse exposition in the entire MCU. There is no character arc in this movie. The writers they hire have forgotten how to write scripts anymore. They don't even care enough to have character arcs, so it's no surprise they don't do any characterization for the new characters either. Just like the first two movies the jokes feel forced and repetitive, relying too heavily on the same gags. Kang's character was a joke. He was not the threat marketing/advertising made him to be. He lacked conviction, and he lacked that villain presence that fuels fear. This movie was only made to re-introduce Kang and nothing else. Why even make this movie when we had Kang introduced in Loki? This movie literally adds nothing and is repetitive. You don't even need to see this movie if you have seen Loki. Somehow Loki gave more backstory and characterization to this next big baddie of the MCU than this movie, and he was only in the last episode of that show, so you go figure! So basically another below average MCU movie with poor writing, bad exposition, cringe dialogue, terrible cgi (which seems to be Marvel's forte now) to absolute poor pacing, terrible structure and no character arcs.
