Why do they do this though? I feel like the general public/audience has definitely shown they are willing to sit through a 2hr 30 min movie if it's great. Hell, most of the MCU movies that are praised more than others all have at the very least a 2hr 14 min runtime. I don't get the cutting. What if it helps Scott's character? Cassie's? Kang's? I'm going to enjoy the movie regardless but I had issues with the runtime from the get-go.
@@darkurge69 The masses are willing to sit longer, pay a babysitter more, etc, if it's great and extremely anticipated; No Way Home, Endgame, Avatar, The Batman. Beyond two hours also means less plays per day in theaters, so the movie needs to be exceptionally great to maintain interest for more calendar days. Longer than 2 hours in theaters can be a risky gamble for earning a big return on investment.
Really not sure where you got this assumption from that they have cut the movie to meet a certain run time? He said they had to cut some of the fight scenes because they were too violent. That would not equate to the 40 mins he said he wanted. Marvel have absolutely no problem making movies well above the 2 hour mark and have done a lot of those, this isn’t Warner Bros we’re talking about here.
Y’all have to stop going in with endgame expectations these movies are setting up and introducing new characters for the big final y’all forget we got mid movies before thanos 🤦🏾♂️
Nah fam. We’re expecting good movies. Like winter soldier. Was that an end game level movie? Not even close. Was it really well made? Yes. What we ask is well made movies. Phase 4 failed with that task
@@joec7217 thank you ‼️ We have to give marvel the chance to continue to build and try new things to help build this new saga there will be bumps and bruises as it is in any start up but trust me the stories and characters will get better trust in marvel 🤞🏾
So, as another who saw it. I love it. The story does get, messy. Or to big for its own good at times but falls flat. But still big. Definitely ties together phase 4 in ways alot of us were expecting to happen in phase 5. So that's awesome. Kang is incredible. And I think both credit scenes are incredible and make me so hype for what's next.
If your biggest complaint is that there isn't enough Kang fighting, specifically, that doesn't bother me at all. First appearance...they're going to hold back. He'll appear in a lot of films before Kang Dynasty...
Biggestcomplaint was the hero was upstaged by co-stars , it had ridiculous a** social messaging using ants , and Kang was NOWHERE near the level of menace that Thanos was - who cares if he appears in a lot of films if he's MEH here?! What versions matters if there are different versions?!!!! This doesn't make sense, then there are no freaking Avengers we care about because none of the replacements had solo movies and the "most powerful" Avenger, Capt Marvel getting her film delayed because they know its going to BOMB. They need to start all over again and course cornect with RDJ and EVANS fast - this is a sh*t show beyond sh*t shows.
The thing is, we are overly setting out expectations. These cameo, and comic book easter eggs. Phase 1-3, we were just watching how the stories unfolds, we weren’t looking for more comic accurate stuff, we were just looking for one story to the next.
That's a valid point which I also wanted to make......Now a days a lot of wild theories, comic book references, breakdown videos and many more to some extent create hype for the movie but at the same time they spoil little fun and surprises for the movie and set the expectations high by default which after the movie we feel little bit disappointed. Comparing to infinity saga (Phase 1-3) as you said we were more focused on the movie what it has to offer, how it unfolds and what's next to come and nothing else..... But now wild theories just set the bar too high, breakdown videos reveal too much about the movie's plot and ultimately it costs us geting underwhelming feeling at the end after watching the movie.
I really can’t wait to see this this opening weekend But like I’m not even surprised if it doesn’t do well , people need to stop to experience like “endgame level experiences” honestly
No one is expecting this movie to be like Endgame. People just want a good movie, and so far with all the trailers and reviews it doesn’t seem like thats what we’re going to get. I really hope people don’t make excuses for this movie saying “don’t have expectations”. We’re paying to see this movie. The general audience is what keeps this MCU alive. We SHOULD expect good quality for our buck.
Because it’s want he wants. Is it wrong to want more of something? Why won’t y’all let other people have there in opinions without losing y’all’s minds
@@aclannc he’s doing a review … and stated it should be more of Kang … I’m pretty sure there’s more than 30 minutes him. Hell he’s going to get that if he pump his brakes 🤷🏾♂️.
@@aclannc it's just silly to expect an Ant-Man film that's being used a setup for an Avengers film to be all about Kang 🤦♂️ this isn't knag dynasty yet, keep your expectations in check
@@ifiwantyoutofeel he asked for more fight scenes. Literally that’s it. How is that silly? Sure I’ll agree with you it makes it to where it teases his powers for later movies to see more of so he doesn’t reveal all his cards so to speak. But dude just wanted more fight scenes, there’s nothing wrong with that. I probably gonna want more too
I think I get why there's not that much action you'd expect from Kang. I mean, you gotta look at it in the long-term. Kang is the next big bad and they can't just show us most of what he can do now and risk exhausting the character. We only got Thanos in post credit scenes and it turned out great. It can't be that easy with Kang in full feature form. There has to be that mystery and build up to The Kang Dynasty.
I’m hyped to watch it this weekend!! My expectations of this movie is to have decently good visuals, a strong presence from Kang and a nice flow in the storytelling.
I think the reason for the tease is to draw people back in because the first 10 years were pretty awesome in drawing and building up the Avengers. The last 3 or 4 films to set up new avengers movie were mostly a closure set for the first vol set and setup for the next vol. set. At least I hope so
But there is nothing to set up new Avengers as they are NONE you really care about as they are underwhelming or undermined by characters they are setting up to launch. MCU is consuming itself - its just over blown and lifeless now.
I wouldn't worry if you think you need more Kang. There is plenty more Kang coming especially that he's getting his own Avengers movie. It's only the beginning
Honestly, I think it’s good that they don’t show a whole lot of Kangs potential. Remember, he has a marathon to run in phase 5 and I think they’ll show the big guns during Kang dynasty.
Gee, why not introduce Dr. Doom and or Galactus, or Graviton in the meanwhile. There are other awesome villains - then give this guy a rest, too much build up.
Too much of Kang fighting would take away from the hype of Kang dynasty...the same way we saw several thanos cameos but never really saw him in full action until infinity war
Though it's title is Antman and The Wasp...maybe it's about the original Wasp, Janet...since she held the mantle before Hope inherited it and it's Janet that knows more about the Quantum Realm
At this point Marvel will have to just make like 2 semi spectacle movies with several charachters, and then an Avengers with everyone, people nowadays just want the huge spectacle event not the little stories with connective tissue.
With allot of these movies it seems based on what you go into it for it's how your going to feel coming out. For example I went into Dr . Strange (which they really should've just renamed) for scarlet witch and I was extremely satisfied minus the way they "beat" her. And those that went in for a 100 cameos was obviously let down and didn't like it as much. I'm going to see ant man for Kang, honestly can care less about the ant family so I suspect I'm going to like it allot more compared to lovers of the ant family. Also can we please give the end game comparisons a rest. Grow up and move on, end game had YEARS to build we literally only just got done with most of the introductions for the next BIG END GAME level movie.
It’s ironic that we felt for Thor we wanted more gorr and in this we want more Kang. Hopefully moving forward they can highlight the villain a bit more
[My worse fears appear to be coming true? Half-measured Kang. Not enough screen time of Kang. I heard there's a lot of dialogue., but not much action. There needs to be a cliffhanger where everyone is asking the question as we walk out of the theater, 'wow how are the Avengers going to deal with that guy?' If AntMan is high-fiving his family and buying everybody ice cream saying, "we did it, we saved the universe" at the end of this movie I'm going to be upset and disappointed.] I spoke too soon. Kang did have ample screen time and he is feared. He's trouble to the Avengers. Scott did have doubt at the end of the movie and asked himself the question. Is Kang really gone? I enjoyed the movie B.
Can't wait for the movie.. just have one question.. if he who remains was the last kang variant alive, then how did Janet know about him? The name itself explains that he is the one who remains at the end. I hope they have explained it properly or will address it in future.
dude kang was trapped in the quantum realm which exists outside of everything he who remains had no control over the quantum realm and janet was also stuck there
He who remains was not the last Kang variant alive. He said as much in the Loki series. He said, "Wait till you see my variants." He who remains was the Kang variant keeping the other Kangs out of the main timeline.
Because Sylvie killed him and destroyed the timelines essentially.. and since time isn't linear, it's a morbius strip like Tony showed...it's forever going in many directions and he who remains was just the Variant at the end of time...he didn't say he killed all his Variants, he said he ended the war. And I'm just going to assume that by time Kang got sent to where he is, he already and other Variants went through time and lived all types of lives.
Loki takes place outside of time itself. Loki doesn't have a place on a chronological order. Once he who remains is killed, of his variants have always existed from the beginning of time. If he wasn't killed, his variance would have never existed. There is no before and after Loki.
Ant-Man passed the torch from Hank to Scott, this movie is basically a send off for the original Wasp, Janet. Now Hope is truly the Wasp whereas previously she took the mantle because she thought Scott wasn't the right fit for Ant-Man
A C+. Damn 😅 less fighting?? Seems pretty Disney to me to do such a thing. But idk I’m agreeing with a lot of people here , we can expect it to be a endgame lvl movie, it’s still a tease of Kang I wouldn’t think they show him go almost all out and the beginning of phase 5. Can’t wait to see the movie regardless.
I like that they really focused on the quantum Realm because I myself was wondering like what about the world-building for that so that looks like that answers my question
In the trailer when there is millions of Scott lanes. I was like that's cool but I truly truly wish that happened to the wasp. I would love to see millions and millions of beautiful Wasp!! Lol happy Valentine's Day
Just watched for the second time. The Ant-man movies have always been about setting up for things to follow. That is clearly evident in Quantumania. I thought I heard there were scenes filmed with Hope's child. If so, that may be elements that would have raised her presence in the movie. We might learn about those in the deleted scenes when the DVD comes out. WRT to Luis, a cameo at the fake B-day party would have been great just like seeing quick shot of Jimmy Woo in the beginning of the movie. Maybe there was a scheduling conflict.
That’s my issue with Thanos, he wasn’t there for a majority of the three phases, with more Kang we get more development to his character, we understand his goals better, and his threat. I don’t think he’ll be the villain of phase 7 and so with a shorter phase length it’s best to give him more time as a main villain then past ones.
I think i am going this movie with the thought , that there is more to come with Kang and it is the start of a new case with more story's to unfold. I hope this movie will be great in the long term to look back to for what it settled up
i think the problem with phase 4 and ant man is that too many people are expecting infinity war and endgame level movies all the time. if we lower our expectations we might start enjoying the films more
I just watched Quantumania, I thought it was nice to watch, I enjoyed the movie very much and it was fun, nothing like what critics have said that bad. The only complaint is the lengths like you said, wish I could have it longer on certain parts, to have a better timing and less rushing especially on the last bit.
Marvel’s marketing is becoming their downfall. From a sales standpoint it sort of makes sense, but it the long run it’s just bad decision making. I am kinda happy to hear that hope takes a back seat in this one cause I’ve never liked her character😂
Overall I thought the movie was good. I think for a character that is usually regarded as a secondary hero, they made Antman seem like he could handle his own against a big bad. I really enjoyed that fact and to see Scott hold his own was great to see. I do think there was a lot to cover in the movie, Janet's connection with Kang, new characters, and setting up future MARVEL projects, but it still delivered the entertainment that I would expect from an Antman movie.
@@cannedcereal2165 oooh ok. Oh man. Bring some more violent stuff in the MCU. MoonNight or a bit more. Moon Night was a good start and they should keep it that way.
Based off what you said, I hope theres a longer directors cut version where they do include those fight scenes with Kang and maybe give the Wasp a bit more scenes.
I love how you address that your opinion shouldn’t dictate if we see the movie or not I still respect your opinion and excited to see it thank you for the honesty🤝
I am very disappointed to hear that the Wasp having a titular role is being sidelined in this movie. Also, I feel like the Wasp being the leader and founding member of the Avengers in the comics still has not have the opportunity to join or let alone lead the Avengers in the MCU yet. How could the MCU messes this one up time after time.
@@shunbeats5431 Again, MCU has not given her the opportunity to shine. She was supposed to be in Avengers, Civil Wars and even as a variant in Multiverse of Madness, but her character was scrapped. Basically, she's only in one movie, AMATW (not counting Endgame although when she popped up there, the audience did cheer loudly). How can this character build fan base like you in the MCU if she's only featured in one movie given her hugely respected status in the comic world.
@@andretavares8229 Thanks for saying that she does shine in Quantumania. I haven't watched the movie yet, will watch it tomorrow. But a few critics said she's been sidelined in this movie. That's why i got concerned and made my comments above.
I always felt that having Kang show up in an Ant Man movie felt kinda weird. Just because of the tone of all the previous Ant Man movies. I think Kang should’ve been part of Doctor Strange MoM
Yea this would’ve been cool if it were Ultron instead, leading up to Age of Ultron. Or even would’ve been cool after AoU if Ultron somehow resurrects again and it’s Antman’s first big adventure
You expected Kang to fight more? LOL you didn't see Thanos showcase his power until Infinity War, you'll get your fight in The Kang Dynasty. I believe that the marketing of this movie being an important MCU movie in the context of Kang slowly building his dynasty, not a big battle. And this is coming from someone who is selective with which movie to watch in the theater.
Always control your expectations going to see a movie. If you're overly excited instead of hopeful, you can likely be disappointed. Believe me, it makes a difference. I just want to go back to the first three phases, when it felt like Marvel I grew up with.
Super happy that the criticisms im hearing are mostly stock marvel stuff (messy story, some missed opportunities, etc.). For the non-crossover marvel movies especially, I really just want some fun in the theater.
I knew based on what was multiverse of madness that Marvel just is going to continually miss my expectations til basically Secret Wars. It’s alright, beginning to realize that I’m probably just aging out. Probably will only go back to the theaters for Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Hope the kids enjoy what Marvel is doing lately, because I really don’t
First off, I don’t know everyone keeps expecting every movie after End Game to be an Avengers level movie. Stop having those expectations. Before Avengers, we had Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor. All good in their own right. So treat every movie as its own movie. Speaking of which, every movie has had its own continuity issues in the grand scope of it all. This movie started off in 3rd gear. There were a lot of downshifts and upshifts. At end, it left you wanting more. That’s how a really great movie ends… it leaves you wanting more. More of what? That varies person to person. So I will grade this movie as a typical movie. Intro, story, and ending. All three acts did there job. The story seemed a little jumbled in the middle, but came to a definite conclusion. I could have used more action. Then again, who actually expects Antman to go toe to toe with Kang for 15 minutes? Maybe 5 and that’s pushing it! So realistically, it makes sense. Loved the subplot about the ants living and growing and getting smarter over 1,000 years. Genius. Cassie was very forgettable. I was disappointed in the MODOK character. He needed more character building and should have been played by a different actor. Didn’t like his story. He needs a spinoff. Graphics and Special effects were adequate. Nothing particularly mind blowing. Bill Murray needed more screen time. I actually would have preferred him as MODOK. Majors just stole every single scene. With all that being said, I give it an 8/10. Is it on my top 10? No. It is the best in the series of Antman films. Personally, I would have preferred Hank’s Antman over Scott’s Antman. Would have fit better in the MCU. Scott’s Antman has always fallen flat for me. However, this one does fall in my top 20. Let me think on where though…
I loved it. It does have its flaws but it was super funny none of the humor was forced and the weight of the situation was felt throughout. Jonathan Majors was incredible so was Paul Rudd. They did sideline Hope they probably had to due to her parents being more important to the story. The dad had his moment at the end and it was dope af
Yeah , but weren't the jokes counter productive to the tone? And why didn't Janet tell Hank and Scott about this Kang guy in the first place. SLOPPY WRITING, Period, Modok looked RIDICULOUS and the jokes were silly and took me out of the story. It was nope AF.
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 that’s your opinion tho and it’s an Ant-man movie it was supposed to have cheesy humor in it. Talk about going into a movie without no context about the movie lol
It's interesting you know because I remember seeing comments under the opening scene video where they thought that Kathryn Newton's acting wasn't really good but I said hold out this may be a good character. You're saying it so I mean my predictions were correct
It seems like your biggest gripe is really YOU wanted more Hope. Because if there's not much of a story for her in the plot. Then it's fine. It's Quantamania. She's never been there before. She'll have a bigger role upcoming for sure. I'm fine with the amount of kang you're getting because of the fact that we're about to get several years of him. I definitely agree with a longer run time . 2:10 could def be 2:30/40
There was a plot that could've given Hope and Hank something to do, and that is involving Darren MODOK. They had history with Darren, and if the movie was going to lead up to Darren redeeming himself, it should've been Hank and Hope that convinced him to turn good again (like...before the YellowJacket formula turned Darren mad). Not Cassie.
The biggest issue with these movies and shows besides Wakanda Forever is they’re making them too damn short. All these movies could easily be another 20-30 min no problem
At least we will see Kang later on down the line. Hopefully with more action. You got to make everyone happy not just the adults. Makes me wonder how they doing Deadpool 3 and the other R rated content coming out.. Hope not water down .... we shall see
So it could have just been a little bit longer more fights but it wasn't a terrible movie it wasn't like Multiverse of Madness which I'm glad that's the thing it's not like I had to have so many criticisms. So I'm still excited for it though
The main thing I'm keeping in mind is that this is the prologue or appetizer to the main course that is Kang dynasty/secret wars. I'm keeping an open mind throughout
I just want to know if it actually ties in with any of the other shows? Mostly Loki. Was expecting a huge tie in with Wandavision and MOM and it was a let down. They only mention Westview once and it was immediately dropped. And there was so much potential for the movie to tie in with Loki. But nothing. So does this movie tie in with anything or is it a let down like MOM? Side note: I'm not asking for spoilers. Yes or No will work perfectly fine with me. 😁
even though the i havent watched the movie i feel like more kang is needed but the thing is kang is now going to be everywhere he is the big bad so i guess they want to save that more kang for that
Thanos was only post credit scenes til Infinity War. We got more Kang than Thanos when he was introduced js. Come up with a better excuse on why you dont like it.
Never expected an antman movie to be an endgame level. But atleast like a Civil war level i would say as this would impact Kang Dynasty and Secret wars Majorly according to someone from Marvel i cant remember, i think it was Peyton or Paul i dont remember. But atleast a movie close to civil war level or something like Winter Soldier or Black Panther 1
MAN I LITERALLY BEEN SAYING HOPE DOESN'T GET NEARLY ENOUGH RECOGNITION AS WASP! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS, SHES A BOSS! AND LEAVE IT TO DISNEY TO CUT OUT THE VIOLENCE THAT EVERYONE LOVES!
I don’t really understand why you’re complaining about why they didn’t show more Kang. Why would they showcase Kang at his full potential when he’s going to be in other movies and is going to have two movies for himself. We didn’t see thanos in action until Infinity war and the first time we saw him was after the first Avengers and it was just a post-credit scene. You need to tailor your expectations more, this isn’t a an Avenger movie, this is the start of phase 5. Also remember this was also filmed prior to Bob Chepek being fired from Disney, so maybe that had some influence on why you may have been disappointed.
I haven’t seen it but my thought is that this is the first part of the Kang story so maybe they didn’t focus as much on him. They were trying to balance an ant man movie with the start of a phase and am not surprised it had some failings but am glad the director got his wish for the movie to matter more than the other two
I’m glad I watched this before seeing the movie tomorrow, now I’m going to into it knowing it’s gonna be a fun time and a cool intro to phase 5, no endgame cinematic extravaganza just an exciting little film
It was trying to be like Thor Ragnarok but it failed miserably. Most scenes I dozed off because I could not be invested in the scenes jumping back and forth. The pacing of each scene was dragging. It's like they don't know what to do with it. Jonathan Majors carried the film.
Thanks for review. We aren’t going to get the most powerful Kang right now. It won’t happen. He has to get outta the Realm to keep enhancing himself or whichever Variant of him continues on.
I wasn't really worried about whether MODOK would be funny I was worried about his portrayal like is he going to be more robotic or is he going to be more Human. By the way I was kind of wrong when I said Tom Kenny played him. He played a version that was more zany that was in Super Hero Squad Show but the one that I like is the one in Avengers Assemble that one is Charlie Adler that one felt more human and they really gave him developments
Also another thing, I know you say it's Ant-Man and the Wasp and should focus more on Hope, but Don't forget that Janet was the first Wasp, so with it focusing on her story and Hank who was the OG Antman, it is still "Ant-man and the Wasp"
Yeah it was a fun movie. It would have been nice to see them with friends - Scott's old ones and Cassie with new ones. Ghost would have wanted to stay in the Quantum Realm.
As I said in another post, Evangelyne Lilly has some borderline personal opinions and I wouldn't be surprised if Feige doesn't want to keep her in the forefront...
Well this is just the beginning of Kang. We're definitely going to see more of him and if he was in this movie a little too much then we would've been tired of him by time the Kang dynasty and secret wars came out. Ppl have to remember that this Ant man movie is opening the Pandora's box so we'll just have to wait and see what happens next.
Honestly for me i just wish that the movie was a liiiiitle bit longer. Would’ve loved some more exposition regarding some of the characters they first meet and the ones in the citadel
The absurd and baffling reviews of this movie have convinced me to never watch another film review on RU-vid going forward. I no longer desire to waste my time listening to the mindless rambling of people that clearly don't know what they're talking about.
Is it also possible that the newer writers from Rick and Morty are just having a rough start entering this universe and they will improve substantially before Secret Wars?
I feel like I expect these type of reviews for at least another year or two as Marvel releases these projects like lego pieces to a much larger set . I think if fans have faith in Feige ..if they look at these films as puzzle pieces I think people will enjoy these films more. Wait until it all comes together. I don't even know why people doubt Marvel at this point.
I’m glad you expressed criticism. I’m now a bit anxious and apprehensive. But I agree that Thor Love and Thunder went overboard with the humor. It was juvenile many times. I was disappointed with it. I really like Multiverse of Madness, though I would have liked more multiversal madness. So I hope Quantumania is enjoyable.
