Experience the Antelope Island up and close while we hunt mule deer with Fierce customer Rick Thurman. Rick was the lone lucky draw winner for 2018 mule deer hunt on the island.
Kinda like watching the former San Diego Chargers after the game on Sunday. Monday morning Quarterbacks pitching pennies around. I've been hunting for 65 years. Started when I was 8 with my Dad and with his guidance. I Shot my 1st deer a doe at 30 yards with an British Enfield SMLE 303 on opening day. Throughout those years I've taken lots of game. My uncles served in WWII and Korea. When I turned 15 they taught me to shoot out to 500yds. Their main emphasis was shooting in the back country in steep up and downhill terrain with varying angles. There wasn't rangefinders back then. I had to learn map reading and the use of a compass. My Dad was a surveyor and used a protractor to figure angles. That made us stop and plot our shots before ever shooting at an animal. I missed allot of shots in those early years. Later I joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving a few tours in Vietnam as an Infantryman. I qualified Expert Rifleman in Boot Camp. In Vietnam being a young and dumb single Jarhead. I got volunteered for some hunting trips that put what my Uncles taught me into a reality check. We lost men, many were wounded, no matter what WE CARRIED THEM OUT! BOTTOMLINE: Big Game hunting is like being in the backseat of a cop car when your 16 and drunk. Your not concerned with the law. It's the ass whipping your Old Man is going to lay on you. Hunting opportunities happen suddenly, in the right now! Our hearts race, our breathing gets shallow, our focus gets blurred. Training teaches us to slow down, regroup, breath, focus and analysis the situation. We're not in a "Gunfight"! BUT, WE ALL SCREW UP! For a guy who's recovered from a prior heart attack, drags his old carcass all over that steep terrain and than slings a few rounds down hill at a seriously steep angle, than drops an awesome deer. WELL THAT SOB is welcome in my Camp when hell freeze's over! SEMPER FIDELIS Robert W. Gonzales 100% Disabled Combat Veteran Sargeant of Marines Retired I'm still putting a backpack on and hunting Elk in the back country. If you encounter me, your welcome to share a beer with me!
i know im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost my password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Junior Jason thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I am literally paused at that exact time and started reading the comment's... that's frikken funny though... my old model 7 30-06 my dad bought me out of a bar when I was 12 can make that shot, infact, my first cow elk I shot at 660 yard's.
No matter how good the Rifle, when 'Buck Fever' is coursing through your veins, nothing is Guaranteed...we're only Human after all. Some great Bucks tho, and for me, the one with the Forked right eye guard was a beaut.
Absolutely love fierce rifles !!! Most often they’re absolute tack drivers , it’s unfortunate this gentleman wasn’t a little more disciplined, buck fever 🤒 got the best of him for sure ... Great buck though !
Disappointed by this video. Just because the rifle can shoot long distance doesn't mean you should. It looked like he had the opportunity to close that gap. You owe it to that animal to cut down the variables as much as possible. As for the measuring tapes... please do better in the future to represent the hunting community. Hunting shouldn't be about the score.
Guys, this tag is for a monster deer. That’s why the price tag is more than basically anywhere else in the United States for mule deer. You have no idea what ranges these guys practice at and are very comfortable shooting at. It may be 100, may be 1000… if it’s 1000 then that’s not such an unethical shot. Stop being a bunch of Karen’s and enjoy it for what it is. A video of someone else’s hunt
they should name that place "Spider Island", I've never seen a place with so many spiders. even the visitors center is covered with them. lol Great video guys.
Might as well been a fierce rifle commercial. Two thumbs down. Put alot of brass on the ground for an area where you can basically feed the deer by hand.
I've had the privilege of spending lots of time on this island. And I can say without a doubt, there is no reason to take a shot over 200. Let alone slinging 6 shots over 500. Disappointed.
Six shots? They showed three. I'll cut him a little slack because I've got a bit amped up before too; however, that hunt on that buck, dude needed to be better prepared - not just for the shot but mentally as well. He did make a good shot when he hit him.
Six shots is the total shown, 2 when he first seen him and they showed the kill shot. When they pan out after the kill shot there are 3 more empties on the ground next to him. I think he shot a heck of a lot more then that because when he first started shooting his butt stock spares were full and again when they pan out after the kill shot his butt stock shell holder is completely empty. So I would say closer to a dozen shots.
@@jeffreyherman2729 I'm not disagreeing. I was just expressing surprise at their creative editing. I can understand a few misses; but, if he fired off that many, that's not cool at all. I did notice the empty shell holder.
@@teegansmith4666 northern Utah. It's a state park that recently began having two mule deer tags a year. One draw tag and one auction, the auction tag usually goes for around $300K
When he takes his first shot in the video, the buttstock rifle shell/cartridge holder is holding 6 rounds in it. The holder can carry 9 rounds max, so it's fair to say that he probably put 3 rounds into the rifle from the beginning. When he finally shoots the deer, the shell holder is empty. So at a minimum, he took 6 shots at a deer that lives on an Island with no hunting pressure. Heck the deer didn't even know that he was being shot at! We didn't see the whole video of all the times he shot. Sure doesn't get me too excited to buy a Fierce firearm!
I don’t have a dog in this hunt and was kinda thinking along the same lines as others here. Petting Zoo!! I’ve got to relay more information about Doyle and his hunting operation since I had some dealings with him and some of his hunters. My conclusion is Doyle is no joke, some of his hunters are super rich and you know how they can be. In one word kept catered too. But I assure you Doyle and his crew are dead ass serious about hunting ethics and quality of hunting experience. After talking with both hunter and Doyle about any of their hunts, I swear Doyle is like an excited kid when success comes. More so than the hunter. Again I really don’t have any reason to bs you.
Mossback and ethical don't belong in the same damn sentence. How about them chasing deer and elk around on public away from other hunters so their paid clients can shoot em? You left that part out. Or sending 25 guys to swarm a damn unit looking for a particular animal and ruining everyone else's hunt? You sound like a Mossback homer. Don't you have a bunch of apples to pack in somewhere?
sneakybow1, and you sound like a guy that just talks shit and really doesn’t know what he talks about. I’ve noticed that about the loudest naysayers. Just another voice trying to be louder than the rest. Your an Antifa bitch so just shut up and go back to your mommy’s basement and play at being a hunter.
What a rodeo. And these guys are professional hunters? We will be lucky if hunting survives these clowns on film much longer. Such a magnificent animal. Not worth the discipline and effort it deserved apparently. Sad.
From the top of antelope island look to the east about 10 miles and you can see my house I have seen some real monster's out there I use the Marina to launch my duck boat all the time
This is a horrible representation of hunting. This video is what makes all sportsman and women look bad. This video showed this guy shoot 6 times at this Buck! Two shots when he first seen him and 4 when he finally accidentally hit it. When they pan back after his shot there is 3 more empty cases on the ground. But that is only part of it, if you pay attention to when he first shot at the buck you will see his spare bullets on the stock if full. After they pan back to show the proud hunter after his amazing 500+ yard broadside shot..... how many rounds does he have? If you answered none then you are correct! I know they hold at least 10 rounds but if my memory serves me correctly it is 12. So 12 plus the 3 in the magazine to kill a deer at 500 yards..... what a disappointment to the working class outdoors men and women.
You pretty much summed it up. I bet someone with just fair hunting skills and decent shooting skills could easily get a prone shot at no greater than 300 yards. After all, there’s no hunting pressure and plenty of great deer to shoot. SHM...
@@clemsmith8799 your assumptions crack me up. I have never lived in a blue state, I am born and raised in Montana. I have been hunting and fishing my whole life. Just because I disagree with this guy’s ethics does not mean I do not hunt, means I have more respect for the animals I choose to take. So enjoy your hateful life. Lol
Very distasteful. The only guy that seemed half decent was the guy with the tag. Not sure why I even watched the whole thing. Between the prolonged gun commercial and the hosts grimy hands immediately all over the deer the icing on the cake was the guide pulling his tape out and putting it in the shooters face.
I live in utah and anybody associated with moss back is just dropping a bunch of money to have them sit on deer or elk for them and try and intimidate others from the area . These guide services are getting ridiculous and think they are there animals even in public land tags. It's bad enough our government here has sold out to landowners and private money and ruined hunting for normal people including younger hunters because of the bad experiences all over the state of dealing with the CWMU hunts
By law they have to take the meat. They are on a state park where only two tags are issued. It is highly regulated and watched by the Utah Game and Fish because it is such a high profile hunt.
@boomguymike From June until November I was shooting in the west desert on average 3 times a week (as I'm retired) and am proficient at ranges out to 800 yds. You can only imagine my dismay and uder disappointment at the misses. While climbing down one of the cliff faces my scope hit the rocks (obviously not shown). It was confirmed 2 days after this that my scope was indeed broken on the inside of the tube, the reticles dislodging from the tube. Best of the West sent me a new Huskemaw scope to replace this one. Your the only one I've mentioned this to honestly because you just mentioned the range time instead of berating me and trying to belittle me. I did prepare and did spend alot of time shooting prior, but this video being 22 minutes can't explain everything leading up to the shots. Quite frankly in hind site knowing that the scope was broken, I'm lucky to have hit him at all. Hopefully I didn't disappoint you too much and you can understand.
Wtf are you talking about. 2 tags one is issued by the state in a draw. The second is auctioned off to highest bidder. Those funds are used to improve deer/elk habitat. Poaching is illegal and done by thieves. Neither of these two hunters did anything illegal. This hunt was watched by the Utah game and fish since it’s high profile hunt taken place on a state park.
That wasn't hunting. That was just piss poor shooting. Why would you put this out there for people to see? Wont be watching anymore videos from you guys.
did doyle grab the gun and shoot? From first hand accounts from people I know who have worked for him, I wouldnt be shocked at all. then film the hunter after
Sounds dumb as hell right!? I use a tape all day and if I yelled out 2/8” I would get so much shit😂. They don’t say 1/4” when measuring deer for some reason, I haven’t been able to figure out what the theory is behind it, but there may be one. So when someone says make a cut at 6/8”, you know they have been measuring to many sets of Antlers👍
Bad advertising, considering they talked the rifle up a big portion of the show. If you have that rare of a hunt with that expensive of a rifle and optic, there should be 0 room for the error demonstrated. It's sad when hunters care more about the size of the antlers than the animal carrying them
One tag is issued in the general draw and requires years to get enough points to get lucky. The second is auctioned off and the money goes to deer and elk habitat improvements. The tag that is auctioned is typically around 300+ thousand, plus the guide another 10-20+ k.
If you want to lob those long inaccurate shots like you did at least help the hunting community by shooting that recklessly on some wolves that are killing all of our big game animals.
Makes me relatively sick.......fair chase yes....but can't carry his own gear -even his rifle which he is obviously unworthy of.......arrives on his own jet -outfitter support in spades - porters (basically), a shooting coach and spotters to make sure he kills the right deer gave up after 2 shots on this one - reminds me of the Spider Elk where a rich guy "bought" the permit at an auction -used a team to pattern his trophy for a year and flew in to drop him - writing it all off to ammo advertising only on step short of some of my friends who plan to take 390" plus elk this year in a 500 acre high fence not hunting
As a long range shooter and long range hunter, I am very disappointed in this display of “hunting” If you are going to hunt long range, you should be able to take the time to do the math, get a proper rest, and shoot when the timing is nothing short of perfect. Spend time on the range, a lot more time. If you cannot hit perfectly in the first shot, you shouldn’t be hunting.
This right here nails it. My cousin and I spend a ton of time prepping for season tuning our rifles and preparing ourselves for the shots we take by shooting a lot. As a result, we are VERY successful in what we do and have yet to not fill a tag in the past few years since we decided to make the leap into long range. It's not something you can buy from a custom rifle builder and just do in a weekend.
Even though its a draw hunt, being guided by mossback is NOT CHEAP! Anyone who needs a guide on antelope island is a lousy hunter, and his lack of shooting abilities portrayed that. :-/
This video is gross. As a hunter I'd be ashamed. This buck is on an island loaded with giants. I've got photos of all of them from this past fall. They literally have nowhere to go, to risk that shot, and to take 6 on a buck that cant get away is embarrassing.
I have flown over and around that island hundreds of times, it ain't that big. These are tame deer who see people all the time. This is just a black eye for hunters.
Rolling bolts... Guess that's why don't shoot Barnes or fierce, Barnes always throws rounds and fierce well idk hope this guy's shooting ain't how the rifle performs
The smart buck's starve themselves they know. Food = mass, mass = human. They'll evolve soon. No antlers or mayb quik release lol. Just 4kun take them here.
What Bunch of babies below me! If anyone has hunted their entire life then you should know you will not make a perfect every shot every time!! If you don’t think this guy shot that rifle a thousand times before this hunt you are wrong. Everyone misses, even if you are in a comfortable range and feel confident..shit happens when hunting folks!!
Everyone misses but it takes a special kind of unprepared to miss a dozen times before you get lucky... This is coming from someone who practices and performs long range shots every year on game at longer ranges than this.
If you all haven't seen a documentary called.... It's worse than you think... Bye revelations of Jesus Christ ministries... I suggest you do... All praise and glory to the most high Jesus Christ
Terrible display of hunting and sportsmanship. Zero hunting pressure, missing shot after shot after shot. Get closer!!! Or practice to the point you know you can make a clean shot.
Extremely disappointed by the lack of hunting ethic these guys showed. long range shots like you guys showed show zero respect for an animal of that caliber or any game animal at all. And it’s not all about the score as you make it seem. Again very disappointed
