Did you know Tommy did a duet with Celine Dion once, he was a little bit ill in the rehersal so he couldn't really sing out. But when it was time for the show he really SANG and shocked Celine with his voice.
The video is on RU-vid of them sing and her reaction to him hitting the high notes is fun to see. She didn’t know who he was and hadn’t heard him sing before hand. The song was from beauty and the beast, that he does the swedish version for.
Some more facts: Benny and Björn had their own bands for several years before ABBA. Agneta was a singer and song writer doing well on her own too. Frida (Anni-Frid) did a lot of backup singing (if memory serves me). Stig Andersson (a producer) "created" ABBA by combining the 4 talented people working for his company (Polar), and promoting them in a very intelligent way. Benny became the song writer for ABBA, doing vocals and playing the piano. Björn wrote all the lyrics, and sang a few songs and played the guitar. After ABBA split they turned to musicals. Few seam to have registered those facts. It was always Agneta and Frida people talked about. The men are not noticed the same way.
@@knowledgeisgood9645 You did confuse a bit though, saying Benny was the song writer and Björn was writing all the lyrics. It's the same, isnt it?(instrumentals and vocals are a diffrent thing but i dont think you meant that) Just say Benny and Björn wrote most, if not all of the ABBA songs.
Tommy is one of the worlds top tenors. He’s had no formal voice training - pure talent. As you may know this musical was written by Björn and Benny who also wrote Kristina från Duvemåla.
@@CeRz Well. He’s actually a Barytone, but can sing up to a B4, which is Tenor-range. Soprano is a high female voice. I said one of the worlds top tenors, but if Jussi was alive he would take the top spot in my book. Tommy is of course not opera-schooled, but I still stand by my statement that he’s a world class Tenor.
@@samardevneo soprano is literally a word for "a boys voice" And tenor "a mans voice" Even though both ranges are head voices. Show me proof for your claims because you currently hold no merit by making false claims. "You still stand..." is not a good argument. Tommy is nowhere near Tenor, show me one song in which he sings tenor according to you. There are no sources on the internet suggesting tommy is tenor.
lol, that's one way to forfeit a viewpoint. I was genuinely interested if there was anything I've missed. I've never heard Tommy sing tenor or found any sources implying that he does. I guess my experience and those nonexistent sources were correct.@@samardevneo
I am from Sweden and I am so proud of Tommy. He played the Russian chess player in the musical Chess in London. I saw his last performance there and he got standing ovation. ❤
As already pointed out this was written with Tommy Körberg in mind. Chess was written before Kristina from Duvemåla. I was lucky enough to see this live with Tommy Körberg and Helen Sjöholm. A third version you need to listen to is Tommy Johansson covering this. Tommy J has coveted several of the big hits by Tommy K. Listen to another grest song covered by both Tommies. Stad i ljus.
Check out live versions of him singing it. He sounds perhaps even better than this studio version. As he got older his voice deepened and became very rich but still so powerful.
I saw Tommy on stage as the Russian and this song comes at the end of the first half of the show. I was blubing like a baby as his voice is on another level.
Tommy Körberg’s song Stad i Ljus is one of the most popular songs ever made in Sweden and have been recognised as a hymn. The song is also common in college and University culture in Sweden.

Rumour has it Tommy once replied to the question "how do you prepare" with the answer "I take a smoke before going on the stage". In any case, he is one of Swedens best male voices.

I’ve not heard of Tommy Korberg until now BUT I’m sold! First heard Josh Groban’s version but he can get too technical with his vocals at times. Tommy’s rendition is more heartfelt.

It was Björn and Benny's first musical attempt. Tim Rice was also involved. Tim who's worked together with Andrew Lloyd Webber in many musicals.

Answer.. The original song was written for a Broadway play names Chess, originally done in the 1980s (song Bankcock came from this). The play was brought back to Broadway in early 2000', where Josh Grobin got his start as the main vocal in that play.

Saw him perform in Stockholm in the 80s before 'Chess', a 'national treasure' and it felt like it at the time. I hope he will recover from his recent illnesses! Proud to be Swedish for a change! :)
The amazing tripple is from 2 years go. Tommy have struggle with his health. Heart problems and covid and stuff. This is from one of his first bigger stuff fter getting better. ❤️
Chess is one of my favourite musicals (Phantom of the Opera being top spot) and almost all songs on it are hits. I really enjoy the song Quartet (A Model of Decorum and Tranquility), can recommend it if you never heard it :)

Josh Grobans version too me don’t have the feeling that this original version has. Another singer is Ken from Vixx has done this part also and you can find it on RU-vid, I think both CNU from B1A4 and Jo Kwon from 2am has done this song too, I think they did the role different days when it was played in South Korea some years ago. Don’t know if there’s any clip or video of them singing it.

One of my all time favorite songs. The key that takes it from good to great is the ability to allow feeling to be more important than technique. I like Groban, but he focuses too much on technique.
