@@princesofthepower3690 Cruyff being one of the greatest players ever is basically just as true as the Pythagorean theorem. In other words: indisputable.
In this match, the anthems were played by Knabenkapelle Meersburg (the Meersburg Boys' Music Band) and Knabenkapelle Dinkelsbühl (the Dinkelsbühl Boys Music Band)
In the order: Johan Neeskens, Ruud Krol,Willem van Hanegem,Wim Jansen,Wim Suurbier,Johnny Rep,Wim Rijsbergen,Rob Rensenbrink,Arie Haan,Jan Jongbloed,Johan Cruijff ...SIMPLY THE BEST!!!
cruyff was brilliant but im born 84 ,my favorite dutch player is gullit he was stunning on the pitch n the only one who gave us germans the hand after losing 1990 ,everyone knows we r fucked greatest rivals n how it feels for a football player losing a world cup knockout game,so for me gullit is a real sportsman
They had real hardmen back then. No diving to win penalties or petulantly calling the referees nationality into question or getting booked constantly moaning or anything. Real proper man's man stuff.
They simply got too cocky and did not react professionally to the situation at half-time. Cruyff, for example, went ballistic at the referee and had a few cigarettes. It is also worth pointing out that this German side were themselves a serious outfit.
Beckenbauer put it perfectly. They got nervous after Breitner’s penalty. Holland had only conceded one goal in the first six matches of that 74 WC (an own goal by Krol against Bulgaria). Rep missed two clear chances in that final (he missed two more in the final against Argentina four years later). In the final analysis, Germany wears you out mentally because they are so cool headed.
Actually, both sides had Catholics and Protestants alike in their respective sides. Plus, both teams being on the pitch at the same time as the referee means we had English, Dutch and Germans representing different religions... Sorry to be pedantic, but yes 'multi culti'.
Good to see only Dutch players in the Netherlands and German players in Germany. Nowadays football has lost all its essence, with players from every corner of the world playing for different nations. Sometimes they don't even know the anthem of the nation which they are playing for.
Exactly, I see France play. But do I really see France play? Or FC Africa? Only natives should be allowed to play for their native country. It's even worse with a nation like Qatar. About half of their national team consists of naturalised foreigners (Brazilians, other South Americans, etc.).
@wuben1112 Try to open your eyes!! I can see some of them singing along, and you can bet they all know their anthem well, ... unlike these current woke pandering, overated, unworthy bunch of today !!
I still find it weird to watch Johan Cruyff playing for his country, since, for generational reasons, I have always identified him as the Spanish or Catalan-speaking coach of FC Barcelona.
Most of them had a harsh childhood, the post WWII period. The Plan Marshall saved them, barely, but saved from having to suffer malnutrition for years. The faces of Sherzenbeck, Maier, Vogts, Grabowski show it ; even Overath who had finer facial features showed some hardening in his face. The Dutch who had troglodyte looks were Van Hanegem, Jansen, Suurbier, Rijsbergen, Hann; and two whose faces had signs of having suffering near starvation in early childhood, the two twins: Rensenbrink and Cruijff (c).
I like Germany because they seem always to be the uglier team that broke people's hearts because they have beaten the more favored beautiful teams: Hungary in 1954, The Netherlands in 1974, there was no great team in 1990 but they made Maradona into tears in the final, and Brazil (too many Brazilian were crying) and Argentina in 2014. A really badass team. Just like Gary Lineker said: Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.
Two great nation, two great team. No tattoos, no dumb haircuts, and all of them are from their own country, not from the safari or refuge camp. Beautiful old days!
