Anthologion 3rd Edition from a Naive Pilgrim's Viewpoint 

The Daily Office is a treasure of the Church. I love praying Matins and Vespers. However, it’s not absolutely essential and most Christians live faithfully without it.

Wonderful episode Dale! Please do an episode, if you would, on the development of Cranmer’s office…what all went into it? Sarum, Benedictine office, Eastern influences etc. I would love to learn about all that.

I was told by my Russian Orthodox Priest that there is Corporate Worship, which is done by the Typikon. So in Church, the Priest prays his prayers and Laymen say their's. However, in private Worship, there is no Typikon. You can pray as you wish. I was even given a blessing at one time to use my Lutheran Hymnal at home. So, I do not see where praying the Priest's prayers at home would be detrimental to your Salvation. I was even told once by an Orthodox Priest that the Father of the household is the Priest of the household. But like all things Orthodox, there are differing opinions. Orthodoxy is certainly not an "organized" religion.

12:52 for priest lines it is sufficient enough to add "through the prayers of our holy fathers" when reciting as a layman.

I’m a bit in the air on whether to get the modern English or the old. I have the second edition but really don’t use it. I like your idea of giving that one away as a gift and trying out one of the newer editions. Thanks again for a great video! ☦️

Wonderful video! I have owned a copy of Byzantine Daily Prayer for a decade, and the Melkite Roman Catholic Publican's Prayer Book as well. It took four editions for the Publican's Prayer Book to stabilize. As for the Anthologion, I had the First Edition and gave it away when I purchased the Second Edition. Now that the Anthologion contains the Psalter, I have to get it. One question ... The Psalter book has the Nine Odes, plus 6 more Odes. Many large Orthodox Psalters only contain the Nine Odes, ending with the Benedictus and Magnificat as the Ninth Ode ... So, does the 3rd Edition Anthologion also have either the Nine Odes or hopefully the 15 Odes like their lectionary Psalter? I couldn't tell from the video. Thanks again, Dale.

I like that St Ignatius Orthodox Press give you candy. It is sweet of them.

The HTM prayer book uses the best English translation, but these Athologion prayer books use bad English translation my opinion.. Best about the Anthologyion is that it's packed with the Feasts of the Eastern Orthodox Church, divinely beautiful hymns Just reading those divine hymns one will be sanctified in thoughts and also Catechised
