Same. For me, watching his shows is like watching the price is right when you're sick. Just makes you feel better. Makes you in a better mood. Though this was before his passing. Now its bittersweet.
for anybody wondering about the amazing "stornelli" (roman serenade) the woman is singing in the street market is talented folk singer Lucilla Galeazzi.
As a Briton, Bourdain totally passed me by. Today I was listening to a podcast where his sad death was mentioned. This is my first time watching something by him and it was so unique, so incisive, so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
I remember going to Rome many years ago to visit a cousin and was surprised at how bleak some of the outskirts of Rome looked. Interesting that Bourdain decided to cover some of that in this episode.
@@no_one01-5 it wasn't about pain. He met that woman in asia and did all she wanted and even defended her in this #metoo movement, paying out a guy she had sex when he was 17 yrs old and she was 30 ish. And she end up getting with another guy in a paparazzi pictures...
Haha... You really sale Hemingway well at least He is just a tourist here with some fancy script. Still miss theses kind of shows, which means how low we are.
Just finished roadrunner. I don’t want to hate on anyone but I recommend any Bourdain fan gives it a watch, was in tears at the end. He just couldn’t see how much he was loved, such a tragic story.
@@40950999 he had an addictive personality and became addicted to her, almost like a young boy in his first love experience he became obsessed with her to the point of cutting off friends and family to appease her. Such a tragic story and not knowing what went on behind the scenes I refused to believe he done it but after watching the film I understand his emotions I have been there and thankfully came out the other side.
@@MrProjectmayhem Honestly it is ridiculous especially when I am sure they had an open relationship. That is almost what makes it worse to me though like killing himself in a way straight out of Goethe but at 60+. I love all his stuff but it is hard to not feel like he was basically an asshole.
That portion in the beginning about Mousilini, the rise of fascism, and the fall of Rome; it's haunting He had such a way with words and conveying a mood.
He could have left the 85 year old history out. He would have been much better served IMHO, discussing how leftist globalists are destroying Italy and Italian culture Today!
@@charleshammer2928 Damn right, Charles! The real pandemic is this lethal ideology spreading like a bloody (litterally) disease. GLOBALISM : the extension and consequence of Neo-liberalism. In France, it's a desaster too. Thanx to Macron and his minions. Bonne année et bonne santé, as we say in French, to all on Earth. Sabine 💛🦋💞🐝💛
This episode is NOT included in the HBO Max episodes…I wonder why. This is the first I have been able to start watching again since his suicide. Bad choices Tony, pity. Thank you for uploading…
The dynamic between these 2 plus the conversations, visuals of death in the church and her last comment “we create our idols to destroy them,” goosebumps man, goosebumps! Corvette Summer toast to Tony Asia is the devil
Thanks so much for posting this. I LOVE Bourdain. I live in Italy. I am not getting the same good old Bourdain vibes I am so used to... This has Argento's touch all over and I am not feeling it. It contains so much acting, it feels staged through and through. Anthony's stuff was/felt real and deep. Love you Anthony, I am not watching this
Lessons from, Anthony, for our travels. Engage, try local food & beverage, have fun, and adventure, don't be a douche. Never met you, but, still love and miss you, Tony. From a fellow traveler.
My first time watching this program, knowing that he committed suicide is a constantly a reminder that no matter what super creative people share with the world is only temporary,so I soaked up all I could from this and I hope he rest in peace
A huge part of his suicide was Asia Argentos fault, look into the last text messages they sent to each other shes a vile human being she’s living care free still with no remorse traveling the world loving a good life. She doesn’t deserve it
The restaurant's name in the last part was "Trattoria Settimio" on Via del Pellegrino in Rome. I am just saying this now because, unfortunately, the restaurant has closed down, after making history.
I remember seeing Asia Argento for the first time and thinking "This woman looks like an ashtray that is full." She doesn't look so bad here, but she definitely sounds like an ashtray that is full.
@@laurawoods9021 He was a immature and unstable person. No man his age abandons his family for a flaky actress he barely knows unless he's self destructive. It was only a matter of time before he did himself in.
such a wonderful show, and so very well and handsomely directed. thank you for posting. Asia. . . oh my goodness; she's not responsible for Tony's actions but stepping out on Tony was a bad thing thing to do--a photographer sent Anthony Bourdain photos of his girlfriend, Asia Argento, out dancing a much younger man (Hugo Clémrnt) and later that morning, Anthony Bourdain called Asia and hanged himself shortly after in his hotel room. Asia was 20 or so years Tony's junior; it would be a difficult relationship to maintain under "normal" or ordinary circumstances. 🫂 ❤ 😔.
@@cheesejadeitekiwifox THANK YOU! I AGREE!!!!! 👍 ASIA!!!!!!! GRRRRR. She tweeted some b.s. two hours before his death was announced, like they may have spoken on the phone just before he hanged himself. Asia is notoriously unstable and for him to latch on to her as he did . . . friends warned him; I'm actually hurt thinking about it---she shouldn't have hurt him like that even though she was more than 20 years his junior.
!!!...sadly, ...what an unintentionally prophetic episode...with all those obscure, wierdy, perversive elements...it is in a way disturbing, ...even much more now........so sad....
The great grandmother of a friend of mine used to say all the time 'Mussolini was a good boy until he started hanging out with that Hitler!'... I didn't realize that was how a lot of people thought.
I hear Ultraleftist commies rant about Mussolini all the time. Yet, bad as he was, they won't mention that he was a choirboy compared to Communists, Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse Tong.
I’ve been depressed and recently figured I should travel to find some bless since nothing is here and I thought about Rome earlier today and then I RU-vid my man and this is the first video I think I’m going to visit all the places he’s does in the video and more
He had a beta males mindset and that beta male mindset with a combination of Male idealism and pedal lastation for women. Made him a dependent addict to her. Just watching this episode, is cringy on it's own. But I'm watching it to better understand the man and his mindset
Agree with Onslo's comment.. pure trash.. can't believe he fell so head over heels for a piece of trash like that.. and then when those tabloid pics came out he realized what a fool he had been.. too bad he just didn't walk away from her...
I wish Anthony Bourdain never met Asia Argento. He would be alive today if he had never met her. Tony's marriage to Ottavia and then having a child,Arianna was the best thing that happened to Tony.
This episode hurts me. Seeing that god awful women Asia Argento you can feel the mean spirited darkness flowing out of her. For all of Tony’s bluster, he was a sensitive soul, maybe always on a precipice and her darkness pushed him over that edge.
@@zippymufo9765 the problem is men no matter what age, want women. Us men see a women regardless of our current situation and want to be with them. The difference lies in what you set sort of. Some men, yes are stronger and spat with family. Many don’t, women for men are a dopamine boost to our egos and in some cases our insecurities.
@@HankMichaels Yeah, but you have to retain some dignity about it. For a man his age to act like a teenager with his first crush just shows how insecure and self-doubting he was under that persona. Maybe that's why his fans blame her-----so they can avoid thinking about how this man they admired was nothing like the image he projected.
Totally agree. His face is very drawn and hes looking very tired ..he looks like hes in full blown depression. So horribly sad ..people in depression should win oscars they are excellent actors and fool everyone ..she speaks her mind and some comments would have dug deep for him. The comments re “ thats what happens with idols ..you create them so you can destroy them. He was attracted to the worst poss personality. If you watch his first episodes and compare with this one .. huge change
@@teacozy! She directed more than 1 episode. Clearly you need to get your facts straight. She even managed to get the man and woman who were with him since A Cook's Tour fired and took over directing with her crew for some of the last episodes before his death.
Or you create idols and then they destroy you, as was the case with these two. He idolized her, made her into an idol when she was nothing like it in reality and that dangerous illusion destroyed him. She wasn't really worth dying for, much less living for!
No deep truth here, but some more of Argento's new-age bullshit she thrives on! Her remarks about Mussolini are historically incorrect. Mussolini was a self-made man -- a CON! He was the one who calculatingly made himself into a false idol i.e. "reinvented" himself as the nation's savior, a leader or DUCE in Italian, and the people fell for his lies and false promises. Her comment makes him look like a victim, along the lines of "the revolution devours her children," when in fact it was the other way round - it was the masses who fell victims to this "murderer and liar from the beginning" - one of the many reincarnations of evil in the history of mankind.
Granted! But you shall call him Gertje and nobody is ever able to pronounce his name (unless you're visiting the Netherlands). But it's okay though, he learns to live with his name like 'a boy named Sue' and actually gets a number of cool nicknames he earns allover the place, and later even learns to love his own name and you will keep eachother happy through life with songs and laughter. But you gotta promise to also keep playing that guitar though!
I never had a son... 😪 But my lovely daughter has send me the link tonight, and I've enjoyed the content of the video.. The food, the people.. What and who Asia is, I don't know, but she's super bright, and pretty.. Her son is, as his mom, incredible... 🇿🇦
Loved this man. It makes me sad to know that he hated his fans and his job at the end of his life. Remember not to idolize or too greatly envy those we think have it all.
She was spewing a lot of weird stuff that didn’t make sense. I don’t build up idols to tear them down. I don’t think the Catholic Church operates out of fear at least not the Christian churches that I know. I get it she was anti-fascism but when he brought it up about America she wasn’t interested..
