FORMER UNIFIED HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION ANTHONY JOSHUA LOOKS SET TO TAKE ON JERMAINE FRANKLIN IN HIS FIRST FIGHT UNDER NEW TRAINER DERRICK JAMES #boxing #anthonyjoshua / ade_oladipo1 / ade.oladipo email me adeoladipo@hotmail.co.uk
I am done with the negativity around AJ, HE has done amazing things for the sport, and tbh has been held to a standard that everyone else has not. If he wants to have the rest of 2023 as gimmes, let him he has earned it. He doesnt have the belts, he is rebuilding, let him rebuild, find his groove and then go back into the fray. But sod this constant drumbeat of negativity.
Absolutely - he is a concussive puncher with well above average skills for this era. When people start saying - he is second tier, padded record. The dude fought top 15 opposition for years now. Let us mentions the champions in recent years - Stiverne, Martin, Browne, Dubois. And the contenders - Kownacki, Yoka, Ajagbe, Whyte, Helenius. And before Tony Thompson, Kevin Johnson, Samuel Peter. Does anyone honestly believe that all these guys beat AJ since they were in the top 10 even top 5 at some point.
@@CookieDee11 he hasnt had a easy fight in ages…. The only one was pulev. Ruiz twice klitschko whyte usyk twice none of those are easy bouts, yes he hasnt fought wilder and fury… but he lost his belts… whats the point in fighting wilder with no belts on the line. Its sad but true, and fury has to fight usyk for the undisputed. So what else can he do? Whyte 2? Or rebuild and maybe get a title shot and fight wilder or maybe wilder picks up a belt and then they fight. Its all up in the air till fury retires tbh
Good fight imo and I agree with Ade- AJ can't be "done" then in the same breath be expected to take on top level competition especially after losing back to back fights. I'd even go one further and say AJ should stay on this mid-upper level path for the next 3-4 fights to build some momentum and get used to his new trainer. Lennox as great as he was, didn't jump straight back in the picture after losing to Mccall before fighting a few easy opponents before going back at Mccall. If its good enough for Lennox, it should be good enough for AJ. I hope AJ stops listening to the public and does what he thinks he needs to do for himself.
I think AJ's done. He's 34 this year and his best is behind him. It's a sad fact, but time waits for no man. Franklin was made to look half decent by a rapidly declining Whyte, but in reality he's bang average at best. Hearn's looking at 3 fights in 12 months, then Joshua can start getting in the mix. He'll be 35, and he's not a fluid, natural boxer. He's a powerhouse, a wrecking ball, and was devastating in his younger years, but like Mike Tyson before him, these types of fighter have a smaller window where they peak. If AJ ever gets any version of the heavyweight title again I'll be shocked, but being a Brit I'll be ecstatic. Good luck to him, but that fact he's fighting Franklin, shows me Hearn ain't too confident about AJ anymore.
There are such a lot of good younger fighters coming through that AJ would be foolish to touch… Jared Anderson is just one. Let’s give AJ the opportunity to re-establish himself amongst known fighters …. As long as it isn’t Chisora…….
Here’s the thing about AJ fighting Franklin as a comeback… Is he better than Franceso Pianeta? Yes. Is he better than Sefer Seferi? Yes. Is he better than Dominic Breazeale? Yes. Is he better than Tom Schwarz? Yes. Is he better than the version of Robert Helenius that fought Wilder last year? Yes. He’s also coming off the back of a close fight with Whyte, who fought Fury less than a year ago and was a top 5 HW for a long time. As an AJ opponent it could’ve been better, but it could’ve been a lot lot worse as well. As long as he has 3 fights in 2023 it’s not something worth moaning about.
Jermaine Franklin as of today January 18th 2023 is ranked #28 in the WBC LAST WEEK he was #39 Robert Helenius was #5 in the WBC and #2 in the WBA when Wilder fought him Let's not over hype Franklin just because AJ might be fighting him next. Franklin was a cherry pick by Whyte that almost went wrong but no way is he a credible contender yet and a former 2x unified champion like AJ has no business fighting him when there's plenty of higher ranked guys to pick from.
Fury had been out 3 years or so and had already signed to fight Wilder after his first tune-up fight and actually fought Wilder in LESS than 6 months after his 1st comeback fight... also, he is NOT better than Helenius.
@@timbucktwo8528 And after fighting Wilder he then fought Schwartz and Wallin. He also just fought Chisora. When was the last time AJ didn't fight a top 10 opponent??? 2015?
Is Franklin really better than all the fighters you've listed? No he's not. Has AJ come back from being 30 stone? No he hasn't. Has AJ been out of the ring for 2 years? No he hasn't. He won't have 3 fights in 2023, it's not something he does
I think it makes sense. AJ has fought the best on a fast track to two time HW Champion before even having time to settle in on his style. He deserves some time to work on things and Franklin is a proper hard man that will give him work. I like it.
I don't take care who AJ fights next, it's fair enough if he takes a step down fight imo, other fighters do it all the time but AJ is held to a different standard for some reason. As far as Benn goes, it's been too silent with no explanation for too long. Whatever excuse he comes out with now is just hot air BS, and I think most other boxing fans would feel the same. Fury v Usyk....yaaaaawn, I smell stalling tactics from team Fury and Bricktop. This should be signed and sealed by now
I think it's a great fight to be honest. AJ is coming off back to back defeats and a mental breakdown in the ring. They'll just use it to sell the Whyte fight by comparing their performances against Franklin. Whyte needs to be careful taking an interim fight before he fights AJ because there is a high possibility of him getting chinned!
I agree with you here and agree with Ade. AJ can't be "done" then in the same breath be expected to take on top level competition especially after losing back to back. I'd even go one further and say AJ should stay on this mid-upper level path for the next 3-4 fights to build some momentum. Lennox as great as he is didn't jump straight back in the picture after losing to Mccall before fighting a few easy opponents before going back at Mccall. If its good enough for Lennox, it should be good enough for AJ. I hope AJ stops listening to the public and does what he thinks he needs to do.
Why not Otto Wallin? I get he's a tough fighter but if AJ can KO him he can show off a better performance than Fury's. That also helps build AJ Fury fight
Far too risky, Wallin has only improved since Fury and while he's not a 'KO artist' guy, Wallin consistently throws damn solid shots that hurt (reminds me a little of Ruiz in that sense). Anthony 'AHole' Joshua could very well lose that bout. I'd pick Wallin to win that fight.
@@batsnackattack did you not see how average wallin looked in his last 2 fights with rydell booker and kamil sokolowksi?. On paper he should be embarassing guys like that. He won both clearly but both were ok performances. His last great performance was breazale (wilder and aj ko victim/leftovers)
I was at the Bellew v Usyk fight and there was mad support for Usyk. 50/50 wherever it is for me and I’m a big fury fan and have him in top spot right now
The way Ade tries to sugar coat Benn clearly cheating (2 failed tests) is hilarious. If it was a fighter on another stable and if it was another promoter trying to cover up the dirty tracks he'd be going for their neck. Benns a drug cheat and Eddie's a dirty promoter for knowing and trying to cover it up. The end
Just because when you come home early and you hear your wife moan and some guy talking to her dirty out of the bedroom does not mean she is cheating. Could be anything.
Wow I wouldn’t wanna be in court accused of a crime with you as one of the jury members, in your eyes I’d be guilty before I even got to stand up and confirm my name. You ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?? I hope you hold other boxers to the same Standard like Tyson Fury, Billy Joe Saunders, Huey Fury, Canelo, Roy Jones JR, who all failed drug test. I could be here all day I think you get the picture.
Innocent until proven guilty? Not in this case mate. He's been proven guilty TWICE with 2 failed tests. It was his job to come out and clear it right away but its plain and obvious to see him and his team have took this long to give a believable excuse as to why a female fertility drug was in his system, which is famously used to mask once you've taken PEDs. Oh, and not to mention his doctor in his camp endorsing drug cheating and how you can get around it.
Decent enough comeback fight. He was competitive with Whyte so that's okay by me. What about Michael Hunter always thought he'd be a good fight for AJ..
I am happy to see AJ just being back. I want to see how he gels with his NEW trainer. Stick with one trainer. Garcia; Fernandez; Clayton it seems that they were not a good fit. If it is true and he has gone with Derrick James lets see the outcome. I cannot wait !
Dazn continue to miss out by not featuring Ade much more frequently, As a minimum he should lead the Dazn Boxing Show [can't recall if this is daily; it's been that long since I watched it].
I don't understand this fight.. I was thinking Otto Wallin would of been better.. but its Franklin so okay.. at least he's getting back in the ring so the Usyk nightmares might stop
Franklin is the perfect comeback fight. He was competitive against Whyte and AJ should get a few rounds out of this to work on things. When you lose 3 of your last 5 this opponent fits the bill. What isn't acceptable is when you are undefeated, clearly the best heavyweight currently, world champion and you fight Chisora. That's where fingers should be pointing.
He just needs to have a fight. 3 in a year with a lower opponent, reasonable standard opponent, and a world class opponent perfectly acceptable. And it needs to be in the UK. He just needs to reconnect with his fans and FIGHT. No more once a year in the middle east
Hergovic said it best aj used to be a beast he is trying to hard not to get hit and I get the point of boxing is to hit and not get hit but aj mentality needs to get back to how it used to be was happy to take a punch people say he is chinney he is far from chinney I genuinely believe aj before that horrific night In msg would have beat usyk and that’s not to say usyk is not a better boxer but I just think he would have had the killer instinct more and I think undoubtedly he would have got to who what he tried to in the first usyk fight was suicidal he was never going to out box him second fight was better but still did not really impose his power and size on usyk enough for my liking
im glad for the fight is a good build up fight for AJ , franklin looked good against whyte so i dont see a issue watching this fight im curious if the Usyk Fury fight takes place if they are gonna do AJ - hrgovic for the mandatory spot , call me crazy but i wanne see chisora vs Franklin in a undercard fight it could be a good scrap
50/50 split or nothing, it's for undisputed, if Fury was so called in love with the sport and money doesn't matter whys he kicking up a fuss? Come on belly sign the contract!
Benns gonna look a right tit if he gets banned now lol. I don't think Franklin is the best fight, but in a way kinda of perfect at the same time. Like you say, he can use it as a measuring stick in comparison to what Whyte did/didn't do.
Seriously fans can't be onboard with Franklin? He's an ok fighter but there are so many better options. Zhang, Wallin, Bakole, Ortiz. Or just do the Whyte stadium fight in April...the fans went to see Fury fight in December...the fans we come to see AJ fight in a stadium in March or April easy.
I agree AJ needs a confidence booster but he also needs a bigger name like wilder or parker to get some traction. AJ looked like a broken man after losing to usyk twice.
All this 'Usyk is a middleweight' crap from Fury will go against him win or lose. If he beats Usyk, no big deal, he beat a smaller man, if he loses to Usyk, he got beat by a 'middleweight'
Why do we care what the WBC have to say about Benn as if if what they say holds any weight on the matter? They're a sanctioning body not a governing body. Thats a very 'DAZN' take from Ade
@@anonymousanonymous3707 yeah but so what? We know whats going to happen. Benn will get licensed through another governing body and fight like so many other boxers before him but my point is Ade is talking like the WBC has the power to say if Benn is right or wrong in this situation. The British board of control upheld the allegations, not the WBC. Benn relinquished his license to the bboc, not the WBC. So if anybody is going make a statement saying how actually Benn is cleared of any wrongdoing then it should be the bboc. WBC only sanction fights
I think he possibly wants Whyte after this fight, go in and do a better job on a recent Whyte opponent, get abit of confidence and build himself back up again
Whytes washed yet he beat JF and this is a good enough match up to a former champ? this is a pointless exercise as AJ puts him away with ease, this is a waste of a camp. And whatever AJ is learning in camp should be tried and tested on sparring partners.
I get the fight from AJ's POV, I thought Franklin drew with Whyte. AJ is allowed an "easier" fight Assuming he fights someone like Whyte as his next fight then I'm okay with this fight.
Franklin would struggle against Ortiz, Chisora and that fighter caliber. Franklin is still very unknown. If he fought a bigger name and won well then this would be acceptable. AJ lost to a pound for pound great...he doesn't need much to rebuild BEHAVE YOURSELF ADE! 😅
I'm not excited to see this fight, we saw what franklin had to offer against Whyte. What about Ortiz, Wallin, Filip Hrgović or Zhang? I don't believe Franklin poses a serious threat to Joshua, I understand he needs to rebuild but fights need to be exciting
Today, Franklin is a better opponent than Ortiz, helenius, chisora, Charles martin, Gerald Washington, Lucas browne. Otto wallin, dempsey mckean are on par IMO
the public believe Connor is a cheat theres a reason Algieri was warned that Connor is juicing before he signed for the fight. Seems to me fighters will risk everything for the dosh
Yhh imagine if AJ went on a World tour within a short period of time. Goes to China to fight Zhang, Goes to Australia to fight Mckean, Goes to USA to fight Jarrell Miller or a Gerald Washington. Then Nigeria to fight Onorinde Enwarhamie. Get 4 early KOs in the first 3 rounds and then come to fight Dillian Whyte, Wilder then fury
Blowing out Franklin i don't think will be a good idea.. some of these top guys understand that joshua just fought usyk a tricky guy to beat.. so they are not sure that joshua is done.. done.. now joshua blows out this guy say in 2 rounds.. he is going to be frozen out by these top guys.. people want to take on joshua when is at his weakest.
i would watch that fight, bored of British heavyweights fighting the same small band of fighters and the months of speculation that goes nowhere, would rather have joshua fight 4 times per year against young hungry fighters, if they get knocked out then onto the next, we don't want 4 months discussion of Hearns telling us the fight everyone wants to see is Dillian White.....again, he does the same with his other fighters also, 2 Brits have a great fight and straight away he wants the same again, maybe they can but 2 years down the line
No point fighting wilder with no belts. Usyk and fury are tied up. Whyte fight is pointless and a money grab, so is franklin, but its a rebuild i guess.
Usyk is THE Heavyweight Champion. He has 4 of 5 belts (or 5 of 6 if you want to count Ring Belt). Fury has ONLY the renegade WBC. The org which has the most ridiculous belts after all. Usyk is the A-side. Fury is the B-side. There is no such thing as the 'Lineal Champion' but if there is going to be one then its Usyk not that it's a real thing. Usyk is often ranked the #1 'Pound for Pound' boxer today but again not an actual belt.
My god yet another AJ fight fighting an average HW … let’s all build up AJ confidence, a career of fighting average HW, do not even talk about AJ fight against a 43 year old retired WK …?? Ffs it ridiculous…. As soon as AJ fought a TRUE WORLD CLASS BOXER IN USYK he got his arse spanked, BUT what’s even worse is to see this guy becoming a Three Times HW Champion putting him in the same category to the likes of Lennox Lewis would be a travesty…… IF AJ wants any credibility HE HAS to fight Joe Joyce, Wilder, and TF …. ALL three fights he WILL LOSE ….. most overrated HW by far !!!
Franklin is not better than Helenius Helenius has always been one of those guys that stayed in or around the top 15. Helenius was a credible contender. Jermaine Franklin RIGHT NOW is ranked #28 in the WBC. Helenius was ranked #5 and #2 in the WBC and WBA. Are people really going to start over hyping Franklin because AJ might be fighting him??? I can see the propaganda coming from a mile away. Franklin was a cherry pick when Whyte fought him and he's even more of one now. AJ should fight someone like Otto Wallin or Luis Ortiz
@@Birmingham_racing Only casuals ignore the sanctioning body rankings. Those are what determine who fights for a title. Even if you go by BoxRec Helenius is still ranked higher than Franklin.
