I’m undecided on AJ. I’m a big fan of his (unlike most!) and I was very happy that he finally got a KO victory BUT he seemed slightly hesitant and stuck between styles. I felt like he was taking a few too many shots and then not fully committing when he got Robert in the corner. If he starts like that against Wilder then he will get knocked out. I just hope he can regain his confidence and aggression so that he can give Wilder a beating. In my opinion he needs at least 2-3 more fights first.
@MaterLacrymarum
@MaterLacrymarum Год назад
I'm also an AJ fan. And like you...... he's just not the same, is he? Seems a tiny bit scared, hesitant. Ruiz took his soul, I think. This fight was a last minute thing, so good for what it was. Wilder himself isn't a good boxer, he just has a great right hand. I don 't think the old AJ is coming back.

@@Correction294 Wilder only needs one good punch, that's the issue. AJ would have to beat him early. The longer the fight goes on, the more chance AJ will take a big right. If AJ takes one, he ain't recovering.
@freestyla85
@freestyla85 Год назад
AJ is the type that likes to take fight into the later rounds, likely used this as a tune-up fight for Wilder. In the end, he's going to fight completely different against Wilder, he will be forced to regardless but this he already knows. But like Lennox, the british style of boxing is to take the fight into deep waters and wear down the opponent as opposed to going for the 1 punch KO.

Quite clear at this point that AJ Is trying to retool his style to become a boxer-puncher/counterpuncher. Everyone points to his early style but this was obviously leaving him quite open, as Ruiz showed. People are mistaking this for fear but he's just trying to evolve his style into something he feels will stand him in better stead with elite fighters. I believe that swarming style is a bad one to use against Wilder because he will be open. A boxer-puncher style with good countering is what beats Wilder and that's what he's going for.

The problem is he was still eating jabs off a poor opponent, a better one will land but do what Helenius couldn’t and follow it up. His early style was that unbeaten confidence and knocking every man out. Unfortunately losing 3 times by stoppage and unanimous decisions has taken that confidence away, no matter what anyone tells him he knows he’s not the best and can be outclassed or hurt.

Improvement on last time but he still seems to be holding back n scared of going full in with 3/4/5 punches Keeping at a distance still scared of getting whacked ! I tend to think back to Mike Tyson how he would have gone in for the kill when Ahelanius was on the ropes a few times but AJ would just throw one punch then they’d hold n clinch . Before the Riaz one fight he would have gone full out we can all see he s still too scared to be that man maybe this win gives him that bit more confidence . I do fear for him fighting Wilder he doesn’t have Tysons defence skills or movement to dodge those sledgehammers? Just my view I think he has to fight fire with fire to win that fight or he will be slayed imo .

Personally this fight was just to get his confidence and mindset back in my opinion. Robert Helenius was way too relaxed and left himself exposed all throughout and wasn’t really dishing out anything that would of made an impact. Joshua could of took him out from the opening bell, AJ has come a long way and gets criticised a lot and from his early stages in his career up to the Ruiz fight he relied too much on his power and size. But every fight he has had he has improved and gone from brawler to boxer. I don’t blame him for not being able to showcase his full potential I blame the coaching and the surroundings. Wilder will be a true test of heart for AJ just like the Klitchko fight. A wins a win and I hope this is just the beginning of a new Anthony Joshua that the public idolised.

The problem with saying he was clever and clinical is that he was eating jabs and only stopped him once he visably ran out of steam. Fury and Usyk make a mockery of that calibre of opponent while Wilder smashed him out in a round. His performance wasn’t impressive at all and you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise. AJ needs to know which animal he is. Its too late for him to be tuned as a 'boxer,' he started late, he's muscle bound ( not as bad as bruno) and lacks the natural boxers instincts and fluid movement. His abilities lay in being an explosive, aggressive, powerful 'fighter,' a power house that should be fighting on the front foot and continually bearing down on you. Wilder will not be worried about AJ the boxer, I'd imagine he'd be more worried about old AJ the fighter.

That’s correct Roy Hamilton but there were a lot of times watching the fight where the pre Riaz AJ would of flown in esp when Helanius was tired on the ropes n gone in and finished him off with 3/4/5/6 punches this still is not happening? It’s still the big punch but not fully commiting himself he s still holding back too much . I always think of a Iron Mike Tyson , there were times in the fight where u just wish he had that iron Mike dawg in him n went in full blooded 3/4:5 punches but it’s still half hearted going in scared of getting hit back hard ? Helanius could of been taken out earlier but the fire still isn’t in his belly he has to smell the death and it’s still not there he s over reaching rather than going in full hearted for the kill just my opinion . Also I worry about him fighting Wilder he doesn’t have the defensive skills or movement that Tyson has , I want him to lose all that muscle really it slows you down if you watch him before he put on the muscle he moved a lot faster Try find his earlier fights around the Olympics he s a total wrecking machine and the speed was frightening imo . @@IAMJEFFREY-cw9nshe beat Kownacki twice then lost to Wilder. You need to Google the meaning of journeyman, as you haven't got a clue 😂 obviously Helenius isn't an 'elite', but you're the type who would have moaned no matter what happened last night.

Anthony isn’t as natural a boxer as Say Tyson Fury I feel or it sounds like his coach has to tell him what to do He has all the weapons but he s still hesitating to go full in for the kill with multiple punches tbh I can’t see him beating Wilder although we all hope he does . Watching Tyson fight Wilder he can move n dodge those bombs naturally I’m not sure AJ can

Quite worrying that Derrick couldn't see his fighter during the fight

AJ hates to be hit since the fat boy took his soul. Wilder would drop him like a stone.

I hate how critical everyone is of Anthony Joshua, and I hate even more that all the criticism is warranted. Nobody ever really straight up dismisses him, but his skill and mentality as a fighter is questioned more than anyone I've ever seen. It's part of what makes him exciting for me. You really never know what AJ you're going to get.
