In 1981 I through a Columbia Yellow dot at Hilltop Lanes in South San Diego- averaged 227 for Ten Games - scratch sweeper with a 300 in Game 10 - Lanes 7/8 - used that ball as strike and spare ball! Drilled by Rob Martin out of La Mesa Bowl! That year I was in Top 5 Average for Association at 217- Golden Bowl in East County!
I bowled a state tournament and it was almost like they forgot to oil the lanes. Ridiculously dry fronts. Busted out my old-school White Dot and bowled pretty decently.
I bowled state this weekend by game 4 I was in front of the ball return. I had fun with it being so dry though. My house normally doesn't get that way so it was a great experience
I bowled this event as well. Didn't quite finish the way I kinda hoped but being my first PBA Regional event, at least I showed up and tried. I was kind of hoping I would've got to bowl with you but there is always next time. Great job Packy.
Packy, good job on 9th man. You have come a long way in the couple of years I have been following you. I absolutely love your release, even if the lanes don't always agree. Thanks for the videos and keep em coming man. I know before this is all over we will be talking about Packy and his major championships on tour. Give em hell Lefty!
I threw a 299 in competition with my oldest spare ball in 2013 ^^ left a Ringer in the 10th unlucky but I think Plastic is actually underrated especially as a 2 hander if you can get enough revs on it its like a longer Urethane ball
Hey Packy! These days I throw plastic 99% of the time, but there are reasons. After bowling right handed for 50 years, I need a shoulder replacement (not bowling related). I didn't want to stop bowling so now I'm a two handed lefty. Definitely rev dominant, with little chance of getting enough speed to change that. The Spy was the answer to my prayers, four years after first throwing a ball lefty, I finished this season in the 190's. I've not only thrown plastic in a tourny, I've won with it! Love watching you bowl!
Good luck Packy! Hope Shaun's back is feeling better. I just had to permanently hang up my bowling balls due to back pain. I can relate and hope he recovers.
A long time ago (25+ yrs) in company tournament, I rolled 675 scratch with a plastic by Columbia. That was my best tourney series for 10yrs! Full disclosure, those were wood lanes.😄
I bowled all year in my league and a few tournaments with my only ball (plastic). I finished with a 175 average but raised it from 140 around the halfway point of the season. I just bought a new (reactive) ball for next season.
You'll have to build new habits in order to throw it to the right more to account for the hook that plastic couldn't give you. I would definitely practice hard to get it down! Goodluck!
I got a St. Louis Cardinals bowling ball from the Bowling Hall of Fame, when it was still in St. Louis. The curator knew I loved bowling, so it was a bonus, and I drilled it up. I bowled a JR tournament with it, and ended up bowling a 230 the game I used it.
I think it is interesting how you cycle through so many balls looking for that right reaction. I'm 55 and I remember a time when I was the only person in the center throwing a reactive ball. The shop I was working in had gotten hold of an early Xcalibur and none of the other guys wanted it because it was 15# and they were all manly men. The more you shined it up the more it hooked, I went from playing 7-8 to 17-18 and my average jumped from 195 to 210.
I recvd a plastic ball for xmas (long ago, in a galaxy far, far away). It was heavier than the basic bowling ball I already owned, with which my highest game was always 169. I bowled on a college team, it was suggested to me I get a heavier ball, so for an xmas gift I asked for a newer, heavier ball. I went to a local pro shop to get it drilled. We had a college competition, we weren't doing so hot, so I took my new ball out, and bowled-169. I kept it out, and bowled-170. I was very pleased! The last game, I had few strikes, but made all my spares. I deliberately did not watch the scoresheet. I had bowled a 219! I'm thinking that ball was a Yellow Dot. I think it was plastic. I was happy!
Hey gotta question for you 🤔 why don't you have dv8 collision in your bag because I have one 2ls #3 drilled to my pap and on a condition like this that ball would be huge
My first sanctioned 300 was with a White Dot in the early 1990's. I've thrown 300 games with a Brunswich Crown 2000 (2), the White Dot mentioned before, an AMF GL Classic, and an Ebonite Clear Werewolf (4). Now due to age and injury, my ENTIRE arsenal consists of three plastic balls (Pathogen Blue Dot, The Spy, and T-Zone) and one pearl Urethane (Pathogen Plague). I am currently tied for first in my PBA Experience league.
I also dig my fingers up to second knuckle....hmmm.. I wonder if I should back off to 1st now. I cannot do the fingertip thing...plus I roll 1 finger (1 hole drilled) and switch fingers to change my axis so I can throw the same ball..it just comes off a little differently depending on the finger I use)... Going to try the 1st knuckle tonight in league (OKC Windsor) Question: Haven't seen you toss the Widow Pink Urethane in a while, haven't seen anyone really throwing it like they were a couple months ago. Any reason? I rolled on a pattern called Top Hat and it was so dry and friction heavy that anything I threw with a cover on it took off towards the next lane. As a lefty I was basically on the ball return and still lucky to get a brooklyn. Pulled out the spare ball, moved back left to about 20 and was still hooking that plastic....but this time..into the pocket. Did the same thing on a Main Street pattern as well.
I left mine out on tour! It seems to roll really well when i can play straighter on some of those longer patterns!! Ill be drilling another soon for sure!
My only time at Nationals (Baton Rouge 2012) -- Lane #1 XXXL Starburst (plastic with a core) in the last game of D/S. It ended up being my second-highest game of the tournament ... which, unfortunately, should tell you all you needed to know about my trip.
I have thrown my storm ice for strikes in tournaments and leagues. And I can routinely pull it out and throw it 17mph down 7-9 and it will hook into the pocket. It's an incredible weapon sometimes
How does one get into bowling past a league level ?? Do you have to sign up for some tournaments or something Im unsure how to get involved in my community if I really want to try competing.
Many years ago, bowling in a tournament, the lanes were brutal, I was shooting 150-170's regardless what ball i was using. In the last game of the block i just picked up my spare ball and shot 233, dare I say by then it was too late. Lol.
Many moons ago at strike and spare in green brook New Jersey I had patchy wood lanes and pulled out a target zone for a 300. Trip four on the 12th shot. If you can get enough turn on the ball you can do serious damage on bone dry lanes.
I used to throw plastic all the time for shits and giggles. I mean obviously I would put it away if it wasnt working. But sometimes its worth trying. I was the bowler with the Yankee Doodle Ball
Plastic is all I throw. Been throwing it for 11 years and shot 819 with it January 2021, and got my first 300 game with it February this year. Bowling in a state tournament in 2 weeks and I'll be throwing it there too. Reactive and Urethane are very hard for me to control and they overhook a lot and leave a lot more splits for me.
Looking better towards the end, when laying the ball down minus the loft. When I had a plastic ball it had a tendency to skid, or drift, when hitting fresh oil.
I guess you are not expecting old guys to be watching your channel! I bowled in the white dot tournament in San Antonio, TX, you know, where Columbia 300 started
I've thrown plastic on double burn when the PBA regional format was two blocks of 5 games of qualifying on day 1 with no reoil. I didn't have a burn ball so my Columbia White Dot waa called into acrion! It didn't score well and I went from within the cut on game 9 to out in game 10.
I think. You can really hit up on the purple hammer. But, I think reactive is very different, Personally, I am focusing on stuff that others are not doing. With reactive, I am focusing on being smooth. Not jerking up on the ball. Not trying to throw it fast but actually slower. Foucsing a rolling the ball off of my hand with minimal side rotation. Just trying to be smooth as possible. Smooth with my form, my arm swing, my release. Trying to be able to stay in the same spot and not have to make drastic moves. I watch video of Earl Anthony all of the time. I do not have the need to throw plastic. But, I would not hesitate.
I bowled a Military Bowling Tournament in Osan AIr Base in South Korea in 1998 throwing the Ebonite Clear Wolf Drilled Label with a Weight Hole Polished on the Driest Condition I have ever Bowled on and Crushed this Tournament👍🏾💯
Packy, love your videos. You have the talent to not only win on the PBA but to dominate. Gotta get out of your head a little, smaller moves. You have the talent to intimidate the field, you are so close.
I have. Oklahoma State Tournament in OKC in 2021. Then at the USBC tournament held in Ardmore that year. I'm not a pro. I only have 3 balls, one Ebonite Destiny Pearl, Hustle SAY, and a T-zone. All 15lb. My average is approximately 182. My tendency is to go for 1-2 games (usually 1 1/2) using my reactives, before I run out of adjustments to keep my shots hitting the pocket. (The bowling alley I play league at, well, the owner isn't taking real good care of it) When I can't control my reactives, I have a couple backup lines I can use with my T-zone that are likely to strike, but because of the naturally weak curve, is not as forgiving of mistakes, but will 90% of the time avoid the worst splits. I need to be partnered with someone who can help me understand the reactions between my ball and the lanes. I have Asperger's syndrome, so I often have difficulty learning without someone helping me understand stuff directly. At least I won my league this year. Gonna look for another bowling alley on a different night for next winter League.
I bowled in the Southern Illinois Sectional tournament about 3 years ago and shot my first 700, as well as my then high game 268 with a Columbia 300 White Dot. The lanes were so dry that I had my feet set at about 28!
We bowled 6 games, and I was in plastic by game 3. Games 1 and 2 were 130, 130, then went to plastic and shot 240, 268, 250, 240 for a 210 average. Missed state individually by 13 pins
during my youth scholarship tourney the last game were my ball was not staying on the lane, I threw my Tzone for strikes, shot 185 which is high for me. My average is 130-140ish
I bowled a tournament in the 90's with a white dot and shot back to back 740s. Than in with a black knight I came in 2nd in a closing the bowling alley I avg. Around 220.
very recently...2 weeks ago in League...Lanes where so dry i could not get the Ball to hit the Pocket so i used my spare ball (im a two handed lefty also)
I threw my plastic sniper on the short day at jr gold and during the burn of high school matches. Now I sometimes throw it during the burn of collegiate tournaments
Holly crap first comment ever. Love the channel been watching a minute and I had to shout out to PACKY FINALLY MOVED HIS FEET AND DIDNT PLAY THE GUTTER!!!
when i see packy bowl it look so smooth tho .. can you teach me how to make it smooth by using only plastic ball because i only have the plastic ball and of course i am two handed as well
I used a Columbia 300 "Yellow dot" in a few youth tournaments back in the 70's. Also used an AMF Pro Classic for awhile. Dating myself I realize!! I could never do it now. I'd pound the pocket and leave a 5-7.
Bowling a little sweeper in Wilmington nc. Lane machine didn't strip the backends at all. Everyone throwing reactive and I am throwing plastic basically only averaging 200 to 205. Pretty much was leading by a 100 after 6 games. People were pissed because I was lefthanded playing up the gutter. Lol
Hey, I'm newish to bowling (1-2 years) and am looking for a new ball, I currently have the storm big hit. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated
Is this after the playoffs? Maldo doesn’t look like his back is bothering him at all. Also, I’ve thrown almost an equal amount of high 200 games with plastic as I have with resin. Straighter sometimes is greater Edit: do you/have you rolled the c300 speed? I love mine
During state, I couldn't get the lanes figured out on one certain lane, so said forget it, chuck spare ball down 3rd arrow. Shot 228 which was my highest game for all 9 games
I won the championship match with plastic. I didn't have enough gas to keep the speed up, so had to get out the big asym plastic from radical (the spy) I plan to get another and hit it with 360 lol
Cool video talk tech bowling ball bowling league team the house bowling packey I use the radical the spy 14 pound plastic bowling ball with dynamic core technology in the bowling ball more hitting power more spare at time
