Omg! I haven't enjoyed a video like this in awhile! Thank you! But seriously fuck all of those food delivery companies you were talking about. My boyfriend's sister uses them and the amount of those ice packs they come with are ridiculous! She was trying to give all those ice packs to us! And at my job yesterday someone ordered almost $100 in sides to go. These sides consisted of guacamole, shredded cheese, tomatoes, pico, tortillas, I mean they were fucking ingredients! They could have driven their lazy asses to the store for how much they spent and saved a lot of money and used so much less plastic.
Somara Son I think u can care about the environment but still shop in places like forever21 just because charity shops aren’t for everyone, the single use cups, however, is a different matter!
If I already own my primark/ forevertwentyone shit, I might as well wear it. If I buy my primark/ forevertwentyone shit second hand, it is still fine. But the thing with the single use plastic is true tho.
It's not really a trend, but I hate that we live in a society where we have to ask to NOT get something. It should be the opposite! Want a straw? Ask for it. I don't want to have to stress over the fact that if I don't catch the waiter/waitress in time, that I'll end up with a piece of plastic in my drink that I did not ask for! Not blaming restaurant staff at all here, just frustrated that our society has come to this.
I agree! They shouldn't even have straws in the first place! Maybe it's because restaurants think the clients think it's more hygienic to drink from a staw?
YES! I am about to kill my siblings over it. At least they make their own so they buy the ingredients in bulk (still in plastic though). But it is still so pointless and wasteful.
Slime is a really useful stim tool for people on the Autism Spectrum as well as a grounding tool for people with anxiety, PTSD, and dissociative disorders. I think it all depends on what you're making it from, and it's so much better as a home science experiment than store bought!
I’m surprised glitter masks are legal with the glitter going down the drain & getting in our water systems. I remember plastic micro beads got banned a few years ago from being in soaps & such. Would think the glitter in the masks fall into that category
Cristin Sierra i think there are a few masks/ body glitter that use glitter which arent made out of plastic (i dont know the names sorry). But most certainly dont use the kind of glitter which will be compostable.
I’m pretty sure the glitter masks are peel off masks, so the idea is the peels go in the trash, not the sink. Not saying some don’t go in your drain, but it’s not intended to be a rinse off mask.
Faux antiques are _so_ annoying. Go thrift shopping and find something with actual character that’s already lasted years instead of buying something that _wants_ to look old from someplace awful like Anthropologie that will last a year at best.
I have chronic pain, and I truly appreciate you mentioning that the pre-cut fruits and veggies are needed for some people. It is exhausting to constantly have people talking shit about how only a lazy person would buy that. A tip for anyone who sees products and thinks that way: before getting upset about it, remember that there are many, many disabled people with varying abilities. It might be easy for you to cut up a canteloupe, but my hands cant hold a knife for longer than a few minutes at a time. This can be applied to more than just food packaging as well. Thanks for always considering multiple possible life experiences in your videos ☺
Aubree Mugridge I have a problem in my hand because I fell down as a kid and have had five surgeries to save my hand. Sometimes my right hand hurts so badly I have to use a splint and even taking that off hurts. So I also appreciate the fact she mentioned people like me who are simply in pain and cooking becomes really hard ❤
Aubree Mugridge, I don’t know if this applies to you, but due to my disability, I can’t handle writing normally for longer than 15 minutes. This means that taking notes is a real problem. Even my typing speed is slower than my sister who never fished learning the proper keyboard hand placement. Taking pictures of the chalkboard makes studying very difficult later on. Recently, I’ve learned about shorthand. I’m learning a phonetic system similar to Pitman shorthand which will allow me to write 60 WPM once I finish learning it. Regular people will average 120 WPM. Speedy writers can go over 200 WPS. Top competitors went over 300 WPS. I’m just hoping for 60. That’s faster than my typing speed. The shorthand system of writing (whichever one you choose, many pick Teeline because there’s less memorization, but the trade off is that you have to write more) means you don’t have to use as many strokes for every word, thereby saving you time and hand stress per minute. So, I’m just letting others know because I wish I knew about it years ago. It would have saved me a lot of struggle and hand pain.
I appreciate her mentioning this too! Just recently a cashier many years older than me, and with no knowledge of my health, said to me "Someone's taking the easy way out" after scanning some pre-cut veggies that I needed to purchase. If it weren't for those pre-cut veggies, my family may not have had fresh food cooked for them that night because some days I have a very difficult time chopping.
Aubree Mugridge I wish they had a produce counter like they do a butcher counter. If they can cut up the meat people buy then why can't they do it for the produce! People would probably buy more and that packaged stuff usually costs more per pound. Ugh. One day maybe!!
My bf works at a grocerie store and saw a guy put a single banana in a produce bag, broke the bag so got another one and then put that in a plastic bag! Some people just don't even realise how wasteful they are
Aristanifly, yeah my mom reuses those little produce bags for her dog's poop when they go out to public places that require you clean up after you dogs. She just has a whole box of them collected in her truck. She even asks her friends and stuff to save their for her too. As for the grocery bags, I've always reused mine for trash bags for my little trash can in my office and bathroom. But I usually opt for using the reusable bags when shopping or asking for paper, since I can then reuse them for craft projects and such.
If I’m buying like 6-7 apples, for example, I don’t want them rolling all around my cart and I find it’s helpful for the cashier to have a bag for things like those that are cost by weight. Instead of plastic, I bring with me reusable mesh bags! Asked for them for Christmas and I actually get excited to use them at the store hahah
About the Keurig thing: I couldn’t agree more. The literal OWNER of Keurig regrets his invention because of this. He literally says it’s wasteful (and too expensive). Like... he literally doesn’t own a Keurig. That really says something.
Theresa C I think that the Keurig Company should create a version that requires using a reusable coffee grounds holder and that would be the beginning of their redemption. And include recipe book for various fillings so no store bought refills are required.
He shouldn’t feel bad. If he didn’t invent it, someone else would have. He should just use his money (if he got much) towards something positive to counter balance the effects of the Keurig
Cannot believe there are over 400 people who disliked this. When the weight of plastic in oceans now almost out weighs the weight of fish in the sea it’s time to make serious changes. SO good to see a RU-vid speaking the truth. You go girl!
My really ANNOYANCE is why do Americans use paper plates and plastic cutlery for meals...... I'm in the UK we only use them for picnics or BBQ'S...... So infuriating.....
The biggest waste is at my work where they have plastic galore. Plastic coffee stirring strays annoy me the most though and I’ve asked my work to switch to eco friendly. I bring my own spoon and cutlery to work.
No. That’s an assumption. We have real plates and silverware. Stop assuming all people from the US are wasteful fat uncaring people. I’m so tired of it 😒😒
My husband has a keurig but we use the reusable cup that allow u to use your own coffee over and over! We dont buy the single use ones cause they expensive and wasteful!
Michigan Country Mama yes! I use reusable cups and it's so much cheaper, but I can add however much coffee I want to because the plastic ones hsve such a small amount.
I have a nescafe machine like that and am saving up for a stainless steel pod for it. I'm the only one who drinks hot drinks in our family and using that machine for a single cup of hot water uses less electricity than boiling water in the jug. Mine will still run without a pod in it so we do that at the moment for tea or instant coffee.
Michigan Country Mama sooo expensive! Just wondering but how much do you fill your reusable k cup? Like halfway? I want to start buying the reusable cup and use up the last of my k cups for good 🙅🏻♀️
I'm not a coffee person but my husband 100% is. I think its about half way - there is a line inside of it that keeps you from overfilling. I bought them on amazon. just look up reuseable k-cups and u can get a few for less than 10 bucks
Ana C Never thought that using coconut oil impacted things. Any info would be great to have. I’ll look it up too. Thanks for mentioning that! Yes any type of oil pretty much works
I'm with you on all on this! Thank you thank you! And when my clothes get worn out I cut it up and use it to clean with! I reuse everything as much as freaking possible!
That's how I grew up. When my parents clean its with cleaning products and by hand so I am used to using newspaper to clean glass and mirrors and clothes specifically old shirts to clean, mop, and dust with.
Same! We use old socks to wipe counters and I enjoy sewing so I turn old T-shirt’s into produce bags, and then the scraps from that I turn into reusable cotton pads!
Why don't they make the packaging for the food delivery services ( like the subscription ones ) reusable.....like send it back so the containers can be sanitized and sent out again...or if anyone wants to keep a container or 2 charge them....like a library for food containers
Sometimes it's not more eco friendly to send it back because of carbon emissions. Companies need to be aware of how their products are packaged. There are so many other more sustainable or more easily recyclable materials out there.
Point taken. I was thinking more durability though....are there any compostable materials that could stand up to the task? Or recyclable, excluding metal since it's so heavy....or common plastics because they're not be easiest things to recycle in most areas.
That makes great sense, similar to getting your milk delivered by a milkman. You leave the washed empty milk bottles out for them to collect the next time they deliver milk.
Today one of australias biggest shopping grocery chains went single-use plastic bag free! and their biggest competitor is following that change within a month.
Kansas Clark oh my goodness, Britain is so far behind when it comes to environmental responsibility. So frustrating, expecially since are Nordic neighbours game is on point. 💚🇺🇸
OR SHEET MASKS! I never understood why they got so famous. Beside the fact, that they cost shitload of money, you waste so much plastic, for a one way mask. Not that I like one-way-creammasks either, but at least I get up to 3 usages out of one package. Still not enough, if I consider, that it took me over one year, finish the package of healing clay. Which is so much cheaper and works way better. I think moisturizing sheet-masks are not that necessary if you know how to take care of your skin, and I am someone who tends to have dry skin. By the way, you have a new follower. I love your direct way :D
phloxell yes! And you don’t have to go without them, just make your own. You can easily use coconut oil, coffee grounds, brown sugar, etc. and make your own diy scrubs and masks.
Agree with so much of what you said!! And unnecessary food packaging for things like bananas is not ok; however, pre-cut veges that have to be packaged up I can understand because some people with disabilities can’t chop things like pumpkin etc so I believe it’s ok for such situations.
Thank you for considering those with disabilities! I appreciate this! I have several chronic illnesses and dislocate my fingers when chopping. My grocery store doesn’t stock many things pre chopped so it’s a problem I have to deal with unfortunately. 😔 Although I wish they were packaged differently and not in plastic.
I know it's small, but I made the life change to not use plastic straws. Let me tell you that something as small as that is so difficult! Its embedded into society:(
I still need to use straws sometimes (currently daily) due to disability. However I have also stopped using plastic ones. I did have loads stored up but once I got through those (recycling the used ones) I switched to silicon straws and will never go back to plastic. From now on if I need any while out I'll just bring my own with me and wash it when I get home. Small, simple things like this do add up and make a big difference in the long run!
Stores don't precut produce and package it in plastic for ppl with disabilities. If they actually cared about ppl with disabilities, they'd have a counter where you can get produce cut how you want. Moreover, the precut produce is always the stuff that gets recalled because is been contaminated with salmonella or e coli, something that ppl who take immunosuppressive drugs should most definitely not be exposed to.
Gypsy Resilience But here you could ask at the butcher and fish counter for what you buy to be cut up how you want it. And at Morrison’s now you can take your own Tupperware to the butcher and fish counter which is great 👍🏻
The most ironic thing is that your video got interrupted to show a Wish add, displaying lots of boxes, packages and so many things that no one knows how they were made or where is it actually from that you should buy more... Hahahaha that irritates me a lot! About gittler: you can use food glitter instead of make up glitter, it fixes the same way, it's durable, beautiful, you can easily wash off and of course biodegradable.
I have depression & try to be waste-free but the wipes help when I'm in a depressive state & still need to wash my face or clean my house. Some people don't understand that even the extra step of spraying things down is exhaustive.
Britney Baker Definitely. And sometimes you need to use paper plates instead of washing the dishes. I also find that wipes don't trigger my migraines as much as spray cleaners do. Even those "natural" cleaners, such as Method and Seventh Generation are pungent.
Plus the argument about preprepared vegetables- I predominantly buy frozen vegetables, which can last our 2 person household anywhere from a fortnight to over a month. Some days, my condition can prevent me from cooking or can take the very last of my energy; finding out that the fresh veg we have has gone off can tip me over the edge into not coping. Using preprepared and frozen food can make the difference between eating a healthy meal and eating total junk. I won't feel guilty for that. And I won't stop talking about it until people stop dismissing the coping methods disabled and chronically ill people use to make life that little bit easier
Holly Etheridge As you said, frozen fruits and vegetables last longer than fresh produce, and are more affordable. Fresh produce is expensive; it's a luxury many families can't afford, so shaming people for not being able to keep up with the organic healthy lifestyle is unfair and counterproductive. I agree that when you have an illness and/or disabilit(ies), energy management is crucial to your health. We shouldn't shame people for not keeping up with abled standards. Another annoying thing about this video was the assumption that people heating up a microwaveable meal don't have an illness and/or disability. Some illnesses and disabilities are invisible: one can't tell that a person is sick or disabled just by looking at them. The person she's shaming for eating TV dinners could have an invisible illness and/or disability, or several. This ableist attitude keeps people from using walking aids, motorized chairs, and disabled parking. Disabled and chronically ill people shouldn't have to avoid going out in public or push themselves past their limits because abled people are giving them dirty looks for using their accommodations. Not everyone is "faking" or "lazy." Young people can be chronically ill and/or disabled. Disabled people's use of accommodations isn't hurting anyone. Stop policing people's accommodations: it's not weeding out the "fakers"; it's keeping disabled people from getting the accommodations they need. People with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses shouldn't have to disclose their medical conditions/history to "prove" they're disabled "enough" to receive accommodations. Just provide accommodations when people ask for them. People who ask for accommodations are not trying to take advantage of anyone. Also, why do we expect everyone to cook from scratch all the time, when it's so much easier to buy ingredients and meals? Why doesn't it "count" unless people are laboring in the kitchen for hours over complicated, fancy meals? People are not "bad" parents for not having the time, energy, money, and ability to cook farm-to-table meals from scratch. We're not doomed to be unhealthy if we can't cook like Martha Stewart. Let people take the "easy way out." Why does everything we do have to be done the tedious way?
Britney Baker From what I heard she doesn’t get people living “regular” lives being extra wasteful. I think she can sympathize with people who have a real need for prepackaged/ one time use items. If it did work for you and you wanted to have less waste pre-making wipes and food (then freezing) could always be helpful. Everyone should just do the best THEY can do and inform but not judge others who have to do things differently.
She said in her video that this doesn't apply to people who have disabilities. Ps I have bad depression and anxiety, I don't use spray, just hot water and soap/vinegar in a bucket works fine. My solution is to do bits at a time and follow a plan so I work smarter and not harder. Same thing with hygiene: baby powder, a wet cloth and perfume. There are ways to be less wasteful that are still disability friendly.
Something that pissed me off. Near my house there was this huge plot of land. With thousands of trees. They cut them all down. Built a sonic. And even worse. My streets are lined with trash now.
Sasha gerelen I guess you could video tape yourself collecting trash, sorting it out, then returning back to Sonic all of their stuff. And attach a petition to the video so folks can demonstrate to Sonic how they expect Sonic to pick up their own dam_ trash? Here our town gets "littered" with failed Sonic drive-ins, so they create a trashed up corner and a group of unemployed folks, as well.
I just found you on RU-vid today !!! It is so great to hear someone stand up for the planet!!! I will defo be subscribing to hear more from you, keep going lady, respect to you
This youtuber that I am subscriber to named Jessica Kellgren- Fozard, is deaf and handicapped made a good point about foods that are packaged in easier to open packaging. What most people (myself included) would see as wasteful, she sees as something that allows disabled people to take their lives back and gives them independence. She gave the example that some days she does not have the strength to peel an orange, but wants to be able to feed herself without a career. Before she would cry about not being able to perform such an insignificant action, but with the easy to open packaging she would be able to feel more normal.
hi, have you heard about the cut kerb effect? becasue wihtout other people using things we don't get many much needed accomodations. a more disabled friendly things to campaign for is more sustainable options of precut food. cheers x
These videos give me life. They remind me that my frustrations are real and justified and valid. They remind me that I'm not just being a fun-suck or a wet rag when I put down these types of single use and thoughtless products around my friends/family. Thank you, really.
GIRL-YES!!! The “single use” crap drives me APE SHIT!!! I teach 3rd grade and I have banned off of my supply list: Lysol wipes, baby wipes, and ziplock bags, and I forbid “disposable” water bottles. And those damn keurig things! I’ve hated those from day 1. Why the hell do we keep going backwards environmentally? Thanks for making these videos and being an earth warrior! 💙♻️🌎
AthenaBeth Black at some point, come back with your classroom list showing the swaps you DO like, it will give others here ammo to share with their local schools, TIA
CMS Sultana that’s a great suggestion! I’ve made a few “green” videos, but I haven’t thought to do that topic yet. Some examples are: I purchased the Scott Brite brand reusable kitchen wipes and a spray bottle of white vinegar and lemon essential oil. We use that instead of wipes. It’s a little smelly, but it’s natural and Earth friendly. I also keep a stack of hand towels that I use anytime someone spills something. Schools supply those crappy brown paper towels that absorb nothing, and I don’t let my students use them for any spills. At the beginning of the year I have them watch a Ted talk about how and why to dry your hands with ONE paper towel. I know it sounds crazy, but when you see kids grab four and five paper towels, it’s frustrating! Their winter holiday gift from me is always a reusable bag that folds up into a cute shape, and I provide reusable cups for anyone who forgets to bring their reusable bottle. Every Wednesday we have “Green Day”. Our school colors are green and white, so technically it’s just a school spirit day. For my class it is Earth Day. I have the kids watch one or two videos from RU-vid and do a short lesson on what they can do right now to help the Earth. I’m obsessively committed to the fact that the only way to change the future is to teach and inspire young people. 8 and 9 year olds are the BEST people on earth, and they still have hope and empathy for animals and nature. 💚💚💚
AthenaBeth Black Thank you and all elementary school teachers showing kiddos the hows and wherefores of ecology and protecting nature. And you are absolutely right: pretty much every feeling I have for zero waste started back in 3, 4 and 5 grades...Give a Hoot, and Don't Pollute was the slogan back then!
Most disposable water bottles are recyclable. Ziplock bags can be washed and reused, they are also recyclable. If your students bring these things in their personal lunch how do you handle that?
AthenaBeth Black I have seen that TED talk the problem with the one paper towel is that it is impractical, as you said it dries nothing so you walk around with wet hands. Reusable towels especially in a public setting harbor germs, unless each person uses a clean one each time.
I use something called a washcloth on my face! Ahahaha. Yea..I don’t get the once use makeup wipes either. They are not even good for your skin. I have never used those cotton rounds either..again I use a wash cloth. I have a Keurig ...BUT I only use a reusable stainless steel k cup to use it. I buy grounds in bulk. My husband is using only fully compostable k cups now as well. He has been listening to your videos when I watch them and has been thinking about plastic waste and his impact on the environment.
faeriesmak totally agree. The wipes are annoying. The washcloth idea is great because you can throw them into the wash when they get dirty. Also, good to clean behind ears and inside ears with just water.
Mx. Lycan Whipstitch I'm disabled too. I refuse to feel guilty for those face wipes when they help me take care of myself. Sometimes I can't safely stay in the bathroom alone. Having those wipes where I can get them easily helps me so much.
I just stumbled onto your channel in my search for sustainable, eco-friendly, cruelty-free, zero-waste channels, and just wanted to say you rock! You are hilarious and love your message!
I use oil cleanser to remove my makeup and it takes off more than wipes. I go to Starbucks and use a tumbler for my iced drinks and you get 10 cents off at my place but I wish Starbucks would do like 50 cents or even a dollar off so more people will take advantage of it to save money and use less plastic cups
I am disabled. Sometimes I can't safely hang out in front of the sink to clean my face "the right way". Those makeup wipes have been a godsend for me. I know they're not environmentally friendly, but they do have purpose in my life, and improve my quality of life.
Rachel Muckerman I’m talking about a specific brand that “picks” a cocktail of vitamins for you and print your name and funny phrases. Not the little ziplocks.
So I love my Keurig, I received it as a gift but I don’t use the k-cups, I use the reusable cup it comes with and fill it with the coffee of my choice or use it empty for tea. I’m the only one who drinks coffee in my home so it wouldn’t be practical for me to have a large coffee pot, or to buy something new, when I was already gifted a keurig.
This was actually pretty eye opening! I did appreciate that you did bring up some of the people who have problems that need to benefit from certain thing, and didn’t like call out them. Awesome job!
Wow, this video is actually so so informative. Please make more, I'm not someone who is strictly 'no waste' but I'm definitely not stupid. And after watching this video and listening to your reasonings and justifications, I truly believe only a stupid person would invest in those things ! Thank you for educating me.
Hey there! You are adorable, and I'm digging your videos. Suggestion for those of you who like pre cut fruit and veg but not all the plastic. Take your own containers to the salad bar, they always have pre cut fruit and veggies. I like the pre cut because I don't normally eat, say a whole pineapple. Hope you like me tip. :)
I work at a Dunkin Donuts and what gets me I'd seeing how much waste we create every single day. From all the plastic cups and straws and lids we give out to the single use gloves and cloths we have to use. It's really discouraging and pisses me off randomly throughout my shift.
Yes to ALL OF THIS!!! I absolutely HATE the idea of beauty subscription boxes! Like hello, picking out makeup I’m excited for is half the fun! Pick out things that work for you, companies that you want to support, products you’ll actually USE!!!
I'm only four minutes in, but I half to stop and say PREACH IT because this is so true. We have a serious problem here that needs to be addressed and people like you are helping to get the word out. Keep on keepin' on, lil mama.
Seriously, everything you said was on point. I also wish more people and companies would think about the impact of their products. Seeing wasteful products and unnecessary packaging on the market really also drives me up the wall
OMG girl, I'm SO with you on all of these! The fake distressed clothing has always bothered me like you wouldn't believe. I refuse to buy a new item that's already got holes in it! lol. Actually, you've influenced me a lot and I try not to buy many new items at all anymore, but I've always had that stance on pre-distressed clothing. I had no idea about the glitter mask trend, but I agree it's infuriating!! People are so GD ignorant.
And it takes so much to pre-distress clothing too! Holes are lasered into the fabric and theyre distressed with tons of washing and agitation :/ So much energy to create a less durable product :(
They always come pre-distressed in the strangest ways too. Who wears a pair of jeans for a while and ends up with holes in the thighs and shins but not the knees?
Tasha, I often wonder how that even became fashionable. To me it looks cheap and trashy. And Kathy, spot on! My jeans end up chopped up for rags once the knees go, it's ALWAYS the knees that rip first.
What a spot-on list! Thanks, Shel. By the way, well over a year ago, I bought 3 3/$1 packages of microfiber wash cloths at the Dollar Tree. They do everything that the disposable wipes or Makeup Erasers do, and those 9 cloths are still going strong after many, many washes. Something you might want to try that I have found works: I love using my Swiffer to get under furniture and do a quick floor cleaning, but the paper covers seem silly to me. When a tee shirt is beyond the pale even for sleeping, I place it on a flat surface and cut it into dust-cloth-sized pieces. I find that I can fold one of these dust cloths, cover the Swiffer surface and shove the edge of the dust cloth into the same space in which you would secure a paper cover. Then, when it is soiled, it can either be removed and shaken out for re-use or simply put into the wash. It's a small savings of space and materials, but it uses a still perfectly useful piece of the planet. Thanks again for your video!
(Just found your channel and I’m loving it) I have this jacket with the holes patched up with old clothes and people ask where I got it all the time and are baffled I held onto a jacket for more than 8 years
That is actually a traditional Japanese method that sadly has now trended and new items are being made as if they are patchwork antiques. I love it when someone does something for the right reasons and 'the public' thinks they are fashionable. I have 2 French string bags that are over 40 years old and this year I''m trendy- of course i will still be using them after the trend is over.
Maroulio I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. I saw on Instagram that broken dishes that had cracks were filled/repaired with gold. Yea people try and tell I’m being a basic trend follower which couldn’t be further from the truth. For example a “dad hat” I’ve had for years that has become a popular article of clothing.
Haven’t confirmed this, but I’ve heard that the man who invented keurigs has actually said he regrets inventing them because of the waste. Like they have the option of the reusable cups, but how many people actually use those?
Local to me (Gold Coast/Northern Rivers area in Australia) there is 'herbivore' a vegan meal plan delivery thing that uses sugar cane pulp packaging 100% biodegradable/compostable
Gurl that pointless packaging is ace! “Natures wrapping” omg yes I never thought of it like that. The food is already protected and you’re wrapping it in - plastic. Mind boggling.
I've replaced my disposable makeup wipes with those microfibre makeup remover wipes and they also reduce the amount of product I need to wipe my face clean. I've also replaced my cleaning wipes with microfibre as well. For people who already have a kurig machine don't throw it out just get those re fillable pods and then when the machine breaks you can replace with a better option. There's a lot of technology being made to replace the inner packaging like the plastic bags inside cereal boxes or the wrapping around cheese strings with a bio degradable and edible material! Maybe they can be wrapped around peeled oranges so people who aren't able to peel or chop produce can get that!
I agree with so much of this! BUT - I do actually really like my ipsy subscription. My caveat here is that I share my single subscription with a few friends and it is rare that one of us won't like/use a product that has been sent. And ipsy sends their products in reusable zippered pouches that are perfect for traveling and for organizing small items, which I love as an embroidery artist and frequent traveler. The outer mailing pouch is a bubble mailer and I keep those for mailing Christmas gifts and I use them for storing Christmas ornaments during the rest of the year instead of buying bubble wrap or other stuff because they are the perfect size for it. I have been subscribed for about a year now and I've purchased several full sized versions of the items I've tried, it's helped me to avoid buying full size new products from the store/online that I won't use all of. I think other subscription boxes which have disposable packaging, or subscribing just to be surprised each month, or subscribing to multiple is ridiculous BUT I did just want to say I think that there are ways to make this less wasteful and more conscious if beauty products/makeup are something you're interested in. If I'm ever at a point where I feel like I'm not using the products I receive, I'll cancel. But for now I'm making great use of all of my products AND the packaging.
Annette Taylor I saw an ad for some yesterday. And Sheet Masks!! Looking like a Panda/Cat/Puppy while using a face mask is beyond unnecessary! Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.
Totally agree with you on all these points and agree it’s so important to make people aware of how hurtful these trends are to the environment but I feel like also giving alternatives would be helpful and more informative to viewers!
uuuugh glitter!!!!!!!! i absolutely hate those "satisfying" asmr glitter bombs or whatever they're called instagram videos where they just crush glitter in their hands just to pour it down the drain. NO. JUST NO. it's not satisfying, it's wasteful.
I have only gotten like 56 seconds into this video but I feel the need to tell you that you are GORGEOUS! I feel a lot of women don’t tell other women that a lot now a days so whenever I see someone who’s personality just radiates through them and makes them more beautiful on the outside I just have to tell them. Hope you’re having a blessed day.
🙋 Mom of two here and I'm super against the meal prep services. They actually advertise that you are reducing waste (food waste) but it's so misleading.
I love watching these videos because it reminds me of all the habits I used to have that I never realized how wasteful they were- I was guilty of K cups, subscription boxes, glitter masks, and buying premade salads with lots of plastic every day 🙄 glad I’ve opened my eyes now
I just accidently stumbled on this video and I'm absolutely head over heels in love with you and your principles already. I agree with every word and I'm SO happy to see this type of influencer on RU-vid. Thank you!! I hope it catches on.
FYI they do make a reusable cup that you put whatever coffee grounds you prefer in the little cup for a single cup of coffee. No plastic waste at all if you do that like I do instead of using the kcups. :-)
I HATE those beauty boxes because my MIL subscribes to them then saves all the crap she doesn't want for Christmas and fills my stocking with it even though I've made it a point to mention multiple times that I don't wear makeup or use face products due to allergies so then I have to unload them on someone else... It's garbage from the start.
Loved this anti-haul! I usually do anti-hauls related to items I am decluttering each month, but I think you did a great job with this video! I agree with you on all of these!
I totally believe in everything you say here. Good work. The bit that really sums it up is where you say 'there are things we use for one second that will last on the planet forever'.
Shelby I think you need your own hashtag for companies and people to follow about waste. Even if the hashtag didn't get the Old Navy companies attention, it did show that us as a community are big enough to make a difference!!! I also hate glitter and "vintage" clothing. I also used to use makeup whips all the time when I was in high school and college and how I want to slap myself in the face for wasting so much of this stuff. Ughhh
Hi! Sunbasket uses all recycled packaging for the box and the icepack things and all of the individual containers and bags are recyclable as well. They're pretty pricy if you look at what you get vs just buying the individual items, but it works if you don't have time/are unable to go out and shop.
Hello! U popped up in my suggestions, never seen u before! Im beginning to get into being less wasteful and ur video really opened my eyes. Thank you for uploading, subscribed!
i agree with you completely. i think "influencers" have a real responsibility to INFLUENCE people to think about their purchases and the impact they have. thank you for this.
I agree with the keurig especially, it’s incredible how popular those became. And people just don’t realize how wasteful they’re being and when they do the mentality is to just keep using it because you spent the money so might as well keep using it/habit/routine...
Seconded!!! Subbing now! :) Keurigs!!! WHAT A WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTE!!! BTW, Hugh Jackman has started a line that is actually compostable but not readily available and kinda pricey.
As someone with a genetic condition that makes my joints literally fall apart over time, I super appreciate you not ragging on us using pre-chopped ingredients. 😭 I feel so bad buying them, but sometimes it's literally the only way I can eat fruits and veggies. However, I am getting a mandolin soon so I can chop those things more easily and cut down on my plastic consumption!
Thank you for finally convincing me to cancel my subscription boxes. The surprise is fun but I want to put my money towards products I am genuinely excited about and want to support.
I wish the whole world watched you. You have taught me new things that I didn't realize what they were or what they consisted of. Thank you for the education and thank you for putting the information out there!
_I cannot describe how incredibly cathartic this was to watch._ I didn’t use to think about single-use plastic and now I have no idea how I could ignore it. It’s everywhere and it FILLS ME WITH RAGE lol. I absolutely love the anti-haul concept. 10/10 would watch a zillion more.
I stumbled upon your video today. I love when people passionately can express their opinion, even a negative one, with arguments and to the point. Loved it!
