I lived there for 6 months during Winter, Oh God, but its nice to visit. Theyre like islanders, small minded and paranoid, but fun when you are honest and pull their Wire about it.

still seems charming. do they still cater well for the homeless? the drunk homeless shelter, I never managed to make it to the inside of, but it seemed busy. the Croix-Rouge was second to none. I swapped my clarks sandals for a more fitting pair of sanshoes to see me through the winter. they also gave me a few more necessary clean items. the next day I saw a dutch man wearing my sandals with 5 pairs of socks on underneath, but didn't feel cheated, not in the slightest. good people, if not a bit overly defensive. I of course would blame napoleonic influences for this, with its location being so close to the largest naval base in Europe, and his first beach invasion, he of course as we all now know ran (like a deranged hero) into open cannon fire, I wouldn't want to be walking my dog around there any time this century, but anyway, thanks for the reminder of what I never quite experienced (very poor), and here's to Vanity Fair.
