This film offers a brief introduction to the Ancient Greek Chorus from Edith Hall, before Polly Findlay speaks about her contemporary interpretation of the chorus in Don Taylor's translation of Antigone for the National Theatre's Olivier theatre in 2012. This short film contains interviews with dramaturg Ben Power and actor Michael Grady-Hall as well as excerpts of archive footage from the 2012 production.

Why is there no DVD of this production? If National Theatre sold this, with this amazing cast headed by Eccleston, they would make money. Obviously they did record it. This is driving me crazy! I would really like to show THIS production to my students.

(i know this comment is years old but w/e) it really has to do with actors' (and crew!) rights and equity. even if they wanted to release the video, they'd have to get confirmation from every actor's agent, who would take a lot of tracking down. since this production is at least 5 years old now, a whole lot would have changed. maybe then an actor would have wanted the dvd released, but now they don't. or an actress is underneath a different agency than she was 5 years ago and can't be reached. once they've gotten consent from EVERYONE (and i mean everyone) who's worked on it, then they can put it on sale.

@@joeysnowy4110 okay so? we do that for every other industry. I'm in the music industry and we go back a number of years to find performers and associated rights. It's the right thing to do. Pretty sure they do this for actors in America. They really should be doing this here. Extra sources of income are essential.

The director Polly Findlay and dramaturg Ben Power decided to approach The Chorus in a different way for this 2012 production of Antigone.

FABULOUS! Watching this Nov. 6, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. A break from our terrible election news. But what a BEAUTIFUL break! Would have loved to see this production! Almost as tragic as our country under trump. I may move to Ireland. I love the UK. ☮️

I hope that if you do move to Ireland, everything goes well. If I was able to, I'd already be in Wales.

@@lovelyhumanbeing261 Ah! I have family in Ireland in Abbeyknockmoy...near Galway. I’d love to visit Wales, too. I find it fascinating how very different Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are geographically and how those differences played such parts in creating such differences in the tribes thru history! And the WONDER that the English and French and Romans long before said it was too much and turned and left! Especially the mighty Romans! They could NOT fight the wild tribes of the trees and mountains and rivers and glens! Anyway, we’re you in ANTIGONE? I’m so smitten with the incredible young director! She’s brilliant! I’m quite in awe! Thank you for responding! I love you all over there where the mornings are soft and the evenings even softer! ☮️

P. S. I’m a Cat Lady! Right now I gave 5. I’m low. I rescue ferals, fix them, love them, and let them own me as long as they want. I’m 74 and have 47 kitties in my life and 7 pups. I have loved every single one. Three cats are sleeping with me now and one pup: a 7 year old Peke I found wandering the streets about 7 years ago. She is my shadow. She is named after an ancient Chinese princess and a contemporary Chinese singer: Ling Ling. My pup is beautiful. So are my kitties! ❤️🐾❤️

@@robinholbrook6576 That's so cool! Hopefully someday there will be an opportunity to visit Wales. Perhaps when all of this settles a little. It is very facinating. I love history :D I was not in Antigone but it does sound interesting. You're quite welcome! It was so nice to have this conversation. On your second message: I love cats too!! We have four cats, with one outside. They're spoiled, but the sweetest things when they want to be. And I'm sure your pets are very loved and well taken care of! Again, it was so nice having this talk with you!

I love the choice. I, for one, do not want to see/hear the chorus speak as a group. You can't understand them, it's archaic, and keeps the play a museum piece rather than something that speaks to us now.

Tell me you are a dentist? The teeth are probably good, just that lots of people may not be concerned with having teeth that look like shining pearls, purely for show, as the Americans do.
