Great advice! I always enjoy your helpful videos and I always learn something! Thank you! I also was tickled to see your doggie coming down the stairs and hearing his pitter-pats! ♥
I walked around a big antique store here in AZ yesterday for a couple of hours (found a few great finds too!). I realized while I was in there that I was just skipping a lot of the booths that were overly messy, and were set up with no rhyme or reason. Also yes, those walled off booths are a bit of a turn off. If I want to dig I will go to Goodwill (found a few great finds there yesterday as well :D ).
I've been practicing the Swedish Art of Death Cleaning - its getting rid of stuf from 60yo on. All my yard sales were successful. My last, The Grand Sale, most of my antique smalls sold to a booth dealer at slash prices.. Now I'm thking Esty for selling "the good stuf" Your wonderful tips gives me confidence abt a booth w a pc of painted furniture or 2!
Thank you so much for these videos they are been so helpful I’m just opening a booth and I have no experience whatsoever I know it’s funny I shouldn’t even be starting But I’ve always like vintage shopping and drifting and all the 9 yards
I thought I had alot of inventory. Until I movrd into my booth and I dont have alot. But things need to sell before I go get more. ( only day 2 of ownership)
Yep! There was a booth where I was yesterday that had all these old postcards on a shelf. They were neatly organized, but I couldn't find prices anywhere! I make junk journals and I probably would have bought some if I had known the price. That caused that booth to lose a sale.
It’s tough… unfortunately it happens. Outside of locking up your small, valuable items in a locked case, there’s not much you can do. Of course, make sure your mall is also doing what they can-keeping eyes on things, attracting a high level customer base, and having employees walking the floor throughout the day
But nothing is more frustrating to me than the tag that says “NFS” ugh. I offered to purchase an unmarked shelf that was just sitting on the floor and the owner said “oh well I think I’m gonna keep that for display” it made me question everything else in the store and I left.
Generally, commission is anywhere from 8-15%. It depends on your rent rate, often a larger commission means a smaller rent rate. Just be sure to factor that 15% into your prices! As someone who owned a store for 2 years also and had vendors, I know it’s a lot of work and money to keep a store running, so taking a percentage is fair-as long as they are doing the work of giving you a great mall in return!!
