Now that I am retired, I just might show my life and some of the towns around me. My Brother and Dad, live on the same Dead End Road and yea, maybe we just might get into trouble a little, but have fun doing it. It is time to start smelling the Roses on the way instead of looking at them and passing them by.

Good Morning Cheryl. Not sure if you have the same type of clock, and hung them on your walls, but I do know that some of these clocks had a shelf that matched the clock to hang on your walls. The last clock case you showed is identical to a case I just bought on Ebay. It helped solve the mystery of who made it and when. :) Poor thing is missing one of the side pieces, the top is warped, (but amazingly intact), and the glass and part of the case had gooey black paint dripped on it. I actually bought it to make into a display case for my clock miniatures, so it wont be an actual clock anymore. I just need to figure out how to flatten the crown piece without breaking it...
@justmike57
@justmike57 7 месяцев назад
This Kitchen/Parlor clocks are so hard to find a match with the case and the glass. I have a glass that has a Snail in the lower center that my dad had. As a kid, I through a marble, smack dab in the middle of the snail. Dad taped up the glass and kept it all these years. When I was about 26, I found that glass and was able to copy the outline and acid etched the glass and add gold paint. Didn't look too bad. I am in my 60's now and I finally found the same clock with the same Snail in the glass. I was able to surprise my dad with the clock.

The clock you rebuilt with the pointy top was my favorite. Incredibly interesting to listen to the original conditions etc. And the marble story. In the first two years of high school, my girlfriend's grandfather lived in a small apartment just past 47th Street on the south side of Chicago, and it was just jam packed full of every size of wooden cased clocks. He died and I have no clue what became of those clocks.
@justmike57
@justmike57 5 лет назад
Great story about the Grandfather and his clocks, but if they were not in working condition, or to many, you can bet the family Might have taken a few and donated or garbaged the rest. Sad to say. I hope my son listen to what I told him about my clocks.

I love watching your clock videos. You have an awesome collection. The second one sort of looked like a Seth Thomas brand. I have a Seth Thomas Colonial mantle clock with that same lions head pendulum from 1913. The story you told about your dad's clock, how you broke the glass with a marble and then fixed it some years later was a great story. Gives that clock some history in your family and maybe one day your son will share that story with his family while looking at it. You've got good taste in clocks. And yes those pendulums with the ladies portrait on them are beautiful but very expensive.

I do too Mike. The first antique clock I ever got was a Sessions kitchen clock that I got for $30 locally. I didn't know what they was or anything. But I did my research and loved them ever since. I got 2 of them now and will probably get more as time goes by. I got 2 kitchen clocks, 2 cuckoo clocks, a grandfather clock, a Gilbert adamantine clock and even 2 old electric Lanshire clocks from the 1940s and 50s. I just turned my comments back on. Love your clocks and you do such spectacular work on them! Keep up the good work.

I think they saved the house when they re straighten it in years recent. Mike i am wondering if you have any of the kitchen clocks for parts. Just recently picked up kitchen alarm clock (similar to the once you were showing) with really bad dial on it. Dial is made of metal, but original paint has chipped off in many places, someone went in to try paining it, so it looks bad as of now. I have passion for older mechanical clocks and just getting in to fixing and restoring. By the way , you have beautiful collection of clocks.
@justmike57

So far, I haven't had the heart to part out one of these clocks. When I am in need of a part, I go to EBay and search Parlor Clock and Kitchen Clock parts. Not sure if I found a painted dial. It might just be worth buying a paper dial that you can glue on top of what you have there.

HEY MIKE, i do maintance on all my clocks, i do some simple repair like case parts, broken spring clips, spring rods, adjustments. I want to learn how to replace main springs then maybe repairing bushings. Do you work on your movements?
@justmike57
@justmike57 4 года назад
Hey Vincent, yes I do work on my own clocks. Changing the bushing is also easy, but unless you are going to buy a variety box of bushings, it would be hard to decide which bushing you would need to replace it with. Changing the Mainspring is a little scary. If you try it, take pictures of your works with all angles, incase you start to loose parts and now you know where they go. It does sound like you are up for the challenge on working on clocks and wish you the best. It is a fun hobby and remember, you learn from your mistakes. I find my clocks cheap enough, that if I make a big mistake, it doesn't really matter.

@@justmike57 Yes i think ive ruined 2 movements thus fare out of about 50. One i cleaned and oiled it looked great polished all the brass cleaned the case etc, it was running great but was for some reason too fast even though i tried adjusting the pen adjustment. So i made and tried a few spring rods then i was adjusting the crutch and in that process i bent the escapment wheel slightly yikes i tried getting it straightened and filed but no use it needed a new one so i scraped the clock for parts. It was a 20 dollar clock but yes i learned to be more gentle and alert when doing that. Your right we learn best from mistakes most of us at least lol.
