That's a crazy mechanism! I've been thinking about there being a quad weight one for ticking, cuckoo, music, and QUAIL! Possible idea for even 3 doors! That would be crazy!
@@zinsy23 One door for the cuckoo, two doors for the music section... there are several on RU-vid identical to mine except they play different tunes. Here is a link to one. Go forward to about a minute into the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eYCKFwWbIfs.html
@@TommyWylie Oh yeah I've actually seen that a while ago and forgot they were essentially interconnected! I'm honestly fascinated by different designs and even see crazy ones in my dreams sometimes. In a dream, there was a fairly large clock that likely doesn't exist where there was a smaller one on the side with its own separate pendulum and clock! I believe it shared 2 or 3 weights throughout the entire thing! My family has two 8-day clocks with just cuckoo. I've inherited the ancient 8 day one, which has really weird glitches and the other one isn't just mine, but it's newer, like 15 years now. I recently inherited my grandparents' 1 day clock with music, which is cool because I got to use it throughout my childhood and loved it! I cannot find the music it has on any videos, but it brings back childhood memories and gives me goosebumps. It fell on the floor like 9 years ago from a shelf above it falling on it. The cuckoo is messed up (gently pulling weight makes it go) and the on/off switch is ineffective with that, but not the music. The music loops when the switch is on and the minute hand is a few minutes before the hour. At the hour, it stops playing wherever it's at, assuming the weight isn't preventing it from playing. I'm so glad the music works still as that's mainly what I care about with it. Tried fixing, but may eventually come back to it. Got the music looping figured out (spring positioned wrong and not latching to hole) and can't remember what else I fixed thus far. I broke part of a chain.
I know I have responded to another video featuring this clock bu I just love the sound of the gong for the cuckoo. Makes me want to research different gong springs for mine and replace it with one that sounds like that. One major difference though is my Welby version cuckoos once after the quail on the half hour
This is such a neat clock...much cooler than a regular cuckoo clock! My only worry is that it would get kinda annoying after a while. it would be cool if they made more restrained modern quail and cuckoo clocks, with say, the quail calling on the half hour and the cuckoo on the full hour. Would keep the effect but cut down on the noise. Cool video.
I heard that the inventor of the cuckoo clock back in the 1600s was trying to make an alarm clock for himself that would make the sound of a rooster, but realized that the mechanics involved were beyond his expertise so he settled for a cuckoo bird sound instead.
