This exquisite Qinghai cabinet features an upper shelf, traditional bright red cinnabar lacquer, and decorative paintings typical of furniture from the region. Originally used to store books and display ornaments or offerings, it can now be used as a large bookshelf or display stand. It boasts impeccable original condition, with its vivid coloring, carvings, and artwork worn by time and use but undiminished. This piece is unusual for its full form and size, as many similar cabinets in the past had the top section removed to create a more practically sized sideboard. Ornate carvings in a floral pattern frame the shelf, whilst the bottom section is beautifully painted with vases and other prized personal possessions to suggest the high status of the owner. As is typical of Qinghai furniture, the two small doors are set centrally with a fixed panel either side, but offer access to the full interior of the cabinet.
