This fan was an antique store find, I originally passed on this fan and had kicked myself for doing that but 6 months later it was still there and 75 dollars later it was mine. It was a fucked up basket case and at some point someone had tried to rewire the motor but broke the leads off flush in the stator. I ended up having to grind a couple slots in the stator since the wires go out the back of the motor but enter the front of the stator. I didnt want to relocate wires. After running some tests, the motor appeared ok to my surprise, sure enough when run on a variac, it started up. The fan itself had good paint but all the brass was tarnished. Nothing a run on the buffing wheel couldn’t fix. It is missing the speed coil, although I remain hopeful the store will find the coil, i wound my own coil using a wall adapter transformer core and winding another coil of lower resistance to get a good range of speeds. All in all a good running fan from a basket case. By far the most powerful antique fan I own. This fan is still a work in progress hence the black/white head wire, I will get a cloth sheath for that, the power cord I believe was from an Australian computer and is 3 wire, I did put a grounded plug on it but it looks close enough that I’m not concerned about it. I am aware that the speeds should go HI MED LO however I’m going to leave it in the current configuration since I like to start fans on HI to assist in startup.
