"A visit to Barnstaple in North Devon turns up an important enamel miniature by Henry Bone, a valuable collection of walking sticks, a World War I pilot's watch once worn by TE Lawrence, a valuable painting from the Newlyn School, and a native Canadian 'octopus bag' from the 19th century. Host Michael Aspel finds his own modern collectable - an autographed fan picture of himself taken over 40 years ago."

Thank you a million times over for posting this great episode. It's so nice to see you back on You Tube! These older episodes with Michael Aspel are wonderful. But we love them all--old and new.

When they were talking about the Scottish painter Stanley something, around the 20 minute mark, Wow, you can really see the resemblance between the woman in the painting and the woman's granddaughter who now had the painting hanging in her home

I am so confused by the woman with the amazing piece of furniture... her entire family didn't know it opened??? What?! Is no one curious about anything?! I am so confused by that. If I saw up a piece of furniture like that, or even if I had grown up with it, I would have investigated it immediately. And she isn't the only one who brings their "treasure" in that they have barely even looked at and then the appraiser is like "oh and it does this" which could have been ascertained with less than 10 minutes of actually looking at the object. Utterly bizarre to me. The only explanation is that they have such a large house absolutely full of ancient things that they never got around to it??
